Woman taking dds seat

10greenapples · 10/08/2017 21:23

I was on the bus earlier with my dd. There are 4 seats at the front of the bus, 2 together then 2 behind it. There was a man sitting in the first one (so an empty seat next to him) then a man sat behind him and my dd sitting next to him. I was standing opposite by the pram. A woman gets on then asks my dd for her seat. Aibu in thinking that you just don't do that! She past a completely empty seat to ask my dd for her one. I did pull her up on it and just got a mouthful back. my dd jumped up before I even got a chance to say anything, but I can't believe how entitled some people are!

Did she give a reason why she specifically wanted DDs place?

Sounds unreasonable if there was another place free though

LuLuuuuuuu · 10/08/2017 21:25

Were there other vacant seats , apart from the ones you mentioned and are the front seats for just elderly , disabled or pregnant ?

Pecano · 10/08/2017 21:27

She asked someone to give up heir seat when their was a empty seat right there? Why? Was there something special about your daughters seat?

Seems very weird to me

10greenapples · 10/08/2017 21:27

They had two men in there neither man was elderly, can't say if they were disabled but doubt they both were. There were other seats but further down. No she didn't give a reason.

That's what I didn't get. Why ask for my dds seat. I'm all for giving up seats if needed but she past an empty one!! That's were I draw the line it was right next to it infact it was infront.

catkind · 10/08/2017 21:30

That's a pretty weird thing to do, but well done your DD for being nice and getting up.

catkind · 10/08/2017 21:31

Did your DD then move to the other empty seat or was she too befuddled by odd woman?

10greenapples · 10/08/2017 22:26

No dd just immediately ran to the back of the bus. She has asd and is prone to melt downs on buses so I like her close to me hence why she was in that seat, she ended up having on when she couldn't get past the people at the back who were standing in her way so it did p me off. Just didn't get the woman's thinking!

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 10/08/2017 22:30

Fucking rude!

What on earth did she say in this mouthful of hers? Probably knew she was in the wrong, mouthy types usually give a mouthful because they know they are twats and don't like being called out on it.

10greenapples · 10/08/2017 22:41

She told me to shut up as she's entitled to any seat she likes. When I said well my dd has autism so I like to keep her close she said yeh right! As if I was making it up. (I have a pram so obviously have to stand close to it)

Mrscropley · 10/08/2017 22:47

She was rude but maybe she had issues with sitting next to a man. .
Or maybe she was just bloody awful!!

CockacidalManiac · 10/08/2017 22:49

She was rude but maybe she had issues with sitting next to a man.

That'd be tough luck, because 'public transport'.

MipMipMip · 10/08/2017 22:54

She still ended up sitting next to a man. Weirdo woman.

CaretakerToNuns · 10/08/2017 23:01

Maybe the man next to the empty seat gave off creepy vibes? In that case I'd totally understand.

MipMipMip · 10/08/2017 23:08

I can understand not wanting to sit next to a particular bloke if he was creepy but the OP said there were other seats. They can't all have been creepy! Sounds to me she was just a cow on a power trip.

Dustbunny1900 · 10/08/2017 23:09

Unless the man your dd was sitting with was her husband or whatever..that's ridiculous. Even if there were no other seats in the damn bus. Tough luck, your dd is already sitting there. Entitled as hell

notevernotnevernotnohow · 10/08/2017 23:09

How old is the child? If they are too young to have paid for a seat they aren't really entitled to have one.
Woman sounds rude though.

MadMags · 10/08/2017 23:12

She sounds like one of those people who thinks children shouldn't get seats on public transport.

It's a weird, albeit anecdotal phenomenon I've noticed.

I'd have told dd to stay put since the woman seemed to just be making a point.

CockacidalManiac · 10/08/2017 23:14

Well, if there weren't any seats left then ok. There were empty seats though.

Dumdedumdum · 10/08/2017 23:22

Seats at the front are often priority ones - were they in this case, and is that why she might have assumed she could ask?

PickAChew · 10/08/2017 23:23

Good grief, YANBU. It's not like the woman couldn't sit down. She was being an arsehole.

PickAChew · 10/08/2017 23:24

A child with ASD who needs to stay close to a parent with a pram, who can't sit further back is a priority.

BannedFromNarnia · 10/08/2017 23:25

I am all for able children leaping up for adults if needed, but this is ridiculous. She was definitely BU. And to suggest you were lying about your daughter's neurodiversity is appalling.

Bacere · 10/08/2017 23:27

Totally rude entitled adult! Weird too! If she didn't like to sit next to the man why would you just not stand and definately not then put anyone else in th position of possibly sitting in the seat she rejected.no you were nit unreasonable.
