A friend is having her first baby and was happily showing a few of us her latest purchases. As well as some very sensible and necessary items, she has bought some very sweet vests and clothes. So far so good.

However, the rest of us were a little bemused by the baby wipes warmer. It warms the wipes up so that baby doesn't get a cold bum when they get a nappy change.

My DC are older teens now so maybe things have changed but really?

That's a total waste of money.
I'm always amazed at how much people waste on their babies, and their weddings.

Katedotness1963 · 10/08/2017 17:51

Recent FB selling post, someone selling on stuff their baby had outgrown. I was fascinated to see they were selling a "shusher", a machine that goes shhhh, shhhh, shhhh, shhh, so the parent doesn't have to make the sound...

ememem84 · 10/08/2017 17:53

Say what???!!!

Although I do want a wipe warmer and a shusher now.... we've bought the minimum for baby boy so far. Just the basics.

MrGrumpy01 · 10/08/2017 17:54

These have been around for quite a few years, I never had one and I'm surprised they are still made.

LoyaltyAndLobster · 10/08/2017 17:55

I guess some people just like to go all out.

chocolatesa · 10/08/2017 17:56

Ha ha I love buying baby things and have definitely spent way too much on my LO (4 months) but even I haven't bought a wipe warmer Confused

LBOCS2 · 10/08/2017 17:58

If it's chilly enough to need a wipe warmer, it's chilly enough to pop them on the radiator.

I can kind of understand the thinking though. I'd buy any old shite if I thought it would make middle-of-the-night nappy changes less likely to properly wake my newborn up. Like a cold wipe on the bum might Grin

MaidOfStars · 10/08/2017 17:59

Do you put the whole pack in or just a single wipe?

MyWhatICallNameChange · 10/08/2017 17:59

A shusher! Can you get one for teenagers too? Grin

Although maybe the non stop noise is because of the early trauma they suffered from cold wet wipes. Wink

Areyoufree · 10/08/2017 18:00

A shusher? That's amazing! I want one!

EgotisticalWoolyWanker · 10/08/2017 18:00

Oh God, I am the twat who bought one Blush

In my defence I had a poorly prem dd and was in the grips of pnd at the time, but still.. Blush

I can laugh about it now Grin

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 10/08/2017 18:01

I want a 'shusher' Grin

Angrybird123 · 10/08/2017 18:01

Its not just babystuff though. How many gadgets are there cluttering up kitchens everywhere when one or two really decent knives would do the job? I think advertisers specialise in making people feel utterly inadequate to do things themselves use g common sense and so they feel they need these things to help them.

Angelicinnocent · 10/08/2017 18:02

My MIL was a complete sucker for the useless-household-item-that-is-going-to-revolutionise-your-cooking. And yes, you guessed it: she was a pretty lousy cook (but lovely human being). Basically, it's about insecurity, isn't it? And, in MIL's case also about spending as a leisure activity.

AztecHero · 10/08/2017 18:07

I love the idea of a baby wipe warmer! How did I miss that?

When I was in the grips of PND I used to comfort-shop. It made me feel I was doing parenting better.

Still do that sometimes.

user1471530109 · 10/08/2017 18:09

Apparently there is a contraption you place a pram on that rocks the pram. I thought it was a joke! Wtf?!

Namechangetempissue · 10/08/2017 18:11

I bought a right load of shite when pregnant with my first. So, so much stuff I never used or was useless or pointless. Second time round I hardly got anything!

Willow2017 · 10/08/2017 18:11

Can you get one that yells "get the hell out of bed NOW" on repeat one for teens?

thebear1 · 10/08/2017 18:12

I think the pram rocker was on Dragons Den. Would have been great for ds2.

FrostyPopThePenguinLord · 10/08/2017 18:13

I'm worried I'll do this in the throes of nesting when I run out of reasonable things to buy/paint/clean.....
My poor husband coming home to a wipe warmer ....he would be so confused....I like to think I'd make it work for other stuff though, like socks and pants on cold days....I like warm socks and pants straight off the radiator but unfortunately our radiators ATM are not suitable and I'm worried they would ignite...

KenAdams · 10/08/2017 18:14

This was a friends must have product. Cold wipes made his baby wide away and she would be up all night but she stayed relatively drowsy if he used warm wipes. Whatever works I guess.

44PumpLane · 10/08/2017 18:16

A friend was given one as a gift and never used it, so when my two were born a bit Prem and in the middle of winter she asked me if I wanted it- I accepted mainly because my mother had been whinging about how cold water wipes are and how it must be sooooo horrific for the babies to have the (very soggy) cold water wipes on their bum in the middle of the night!!

It served its purpose amazingly and I would have spent good money on that gadget if needed just to get my Mum to stop going on at me! Grin

Bobbiepin · 10/08/2017 18:17

Is a wipe warmer next to the baby knee pads in the shop? Saw them once, to protect precious baby's knees when they start crawling!

Peachypie83 · 10/08/2017 18:18

Haha in the throes of night feeding a couple of weeks ago, I did find myself googling wet wipe warmer after DS spent 5 minutes screaming that a cold wipe had dared to touch his previous little bottom. As with a previous poster, he is prem and I was feeling delicate but managed to come to my senses before I ordered one and had a firm word with myself Grin
