A friend is having her first baby and was happily showing a few of us her latest purchases. As well as some very sensible and necessary items, she has bought some very sweet vests and clothes. So far so good.

However, the rest of us were a little bemused by the baby wipes warmer. It warms the wipes up so that baby doesn't get a cold bum when they get a nappy change.

My DC are older teens now so maybe things have changed but really?

Anyone who wouldn't/doesn't want a wipe warmer has obviously never experimented with a wipe on themselves... I thought the pack seemed a bit chilly once. So I tried it... And nearly jumped out of my effing skin!!!

Seriously, try it! It's not even remotely pleasant. What are we exposing our poor, poor babies to?!

I tried warming the wipes up on a radiator but the pack just dried out to quickly.
Putting them against any part of my body resulted in a short sharp cold shock that I was not prepared to ensure any more often than really necessary. I am not quite that selfless (almost, but we all have our limits). WinkGrin

I SPEAK FOR THE BABIES! BUY THEM A BLOODY WIPE WARMER. PLEEEEASE!! For the love of nice warm baby bottoms the world over, just do it!

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 10/08/2017 23:48

We have a shusher and I won't have a bad word said against it! DD is now 2 and she still sleeps better with it on! We had an app on our phones we used to play all night but when it ruined DHs phone we brought a shusher.

Shedmicehugh · 10/08/2017 23:51

I'm old fashioned! I used warm water and cotton wool!! Wipes are bloody cold!!

MyLittlePickleBoo · 10/08/2017 23:53

'Although I did see a thread on here the other day about a YouTuber who whispered you to sleep talking about sleepy things. Pillows and whatnot'

Oh! There is a name for this (that I can't remember right now)! I totally get it... It's like a certain type of voice or sound can trigger a very pleasant zen-like physical (but completely unsexual) response. I can't even describe it. It's awesome though. I don't think a lot of her, unfortunately, but I love Emily Thornberry's voice. That's totally a trigger for me!

SleepThief84 · 11/08/2017 00:03

I never used one but as a Water Wipes user (they are freezing got some reason!) I have been known to shove them in my bra for a few minutes! DD (16m) has a nappy change asleep when I come up to bed or she often wees through her nappies overnight. I get her out of the cot, change her and get her back down and she doesn't wake - unless she gets a chilly wipe on her bum! Wouldn't waste cash on a warmer though and never warmed them when she was tiny and properly awake at night anyway.

Lol at the poster who thinks nesting actually happens Grin

The only gadget worth buying is the perfect prep if FF or MF. It's worth it's weight in gold.

My brother and SIL live in a air-conditioned house in the US. Baby wipe warmers are the norm over there.

BackforGood · 11/08/2017 23:35

Can you get one that yells "get the hell out of bed NOW" on repeat one for teens?

Oh, I'd have spent good money one one of those.

BroomstickOfLove · 12/08/2017 00:03

The people who designed the baby milk/throat measuring gadget came on here a couple of years ago to ask what people thought of the idea. Everyone said that it was a potentially dangerous load of crap.

milliemolliemou · 12/08/2017 00:23

user14 - that's why polar bears are all going to DIE - because not only do your relatives have air conditioning but they then buy a wipe warmer. AARGF

Could they not just be (a) not so precious (b) use warm water and a tissue? I lived in a very hot country as a baby. I survived and so did my mother. Limited water.

Can you assure me they don't also put the wipes down the loo? WHICH WILL KILL RATS IN THE SEWERS AND SEWER OPERATIVES WHO CLEAR OUT FAT BALLS AND WIPES?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 12/08/2017 01:59

I bought one of these Blush because heaven forbid The Messiah gets water near her precious eyes 🙄 DD pulled it straight off. WTF was I thinking?

Our second now just gets water practically chucked at him when I bath him as I'm in too much of a hurry these days to be careful about his eyes 😆

BoggleHole · 12/08/2017 04:05

There you go 10 hours of non stop shushing for free.......

steff13 · 12/08/2017 04:24

We never had a wipe warmer, but they've been around a while; they were available when I was pregnant with my oldest, and he's 18.

steff13 · 12/08/2017 04:26

Do you all not have air-conditioned houses? Most houses here are air-conditioned.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/08/2017 04:45

Where are you from Steff? Hardly any houses in the UK have aircon - it's not really necessary. Although most do have central heating, as that IS pretty necessary!

Whereas in Australia, most houses have air con (although not all!) and most DON'T have central heating (except in Really Cold Mountainy areas). I miss central heating... our house is still cold in winter without it and we don't have reverse cycle air con so have to use room heaters.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/08/2017 04:46

Also - the shusher conjured up this image in my head... don't think it would have the desired effect though! Grin

Dunno what happened there. www.mysmalt.com/

awifeyforlifey · 12/08/2017 05:07

Lurker here, first time poster. I'm in the USA, live in a very hot state, and I have a wipe warmer. My MIL told me she swore by them when she had little ones, but I didn't think I really needed one.

Cue two full weeks of anguished tears from DS every diaper change (his record was 22 diapers in one day) and I broke down and bought the wipe warmer. The sobbing stopped immediately. I couldn't stand to see him with tears rolling down his chubby little cheeks, so it was money well spent.

MakeItStopNeville · 12/08/2017 05:09

I had a baby wipe warmer 20 years ago?! So did a lot of my friends.

Percephone · 12/08/2017 06:15

This has actually made me want a wipe warmer. Googling now!

sashh · 12/08/2017 06:35

If it's chilly enough to need a wipe warmer, it's chilly enough to pop them on the radiator.

The wipes or the baby?

minisoksmakehardwork · 12/08/2017 06:36

@ThumbWitchesAbroad - I also thought of Home and Captain Smek.

You've obviously never visited Scotland Grin. We even need to heat the house in summer at times.
