Housewarming

Friend A is moving into her first house with her DP (rented). She wants to throw a housewarming party when moved in. She doesn't expect any gifts just wants to celebrate her moving in with DP.

Friend B says housewarmings for rented houses don't count, only bought houses.

Friend C thinks housewarmings for rented houses are nice in cases like her first moving in with DP and would probably buy a small gift anyway.

Who is BU?

If you told Friend B that it was just a party in your new house, would she refuse to come on the grounds that she might suspect it was actually a housewarming that you were trying to slip past her?

It's a party in a new house. There are, unfortunately, more and more of us about who are never going to have a hope of owning our own homes. Should we forever be denied the joy of a housewarming party? Or are they only for those with money?

Don't invite 'Friend' B. And have a wonderful life in your new home.

Ikea is your friend for pots, in fact, ikea is perfect for everything 😍

FluffyWhiteSlippers · 10/08/2017 11:50

Friend B is a nutter. A housewarming is a party in a new house, she can get fucked.

Brittbugs80 · 10/08/2017 11:54

Friend A should have the house warming party. It's a new house whether it's rented or owned.

Friend C is more than welcome and doesn't even have to buy a gift, it's not required.

Friend B should stop being a twat and pick something off her Netflix list to watch because she wouldn't be invited.

fuckwitery · 10/08/2017 11:58

I'm in the "any excuse for a party" camp anyway - this doesn't even fall into that territory! Party away and don't invite twatty friend B.

displacementofwater · 10/08/2017 11:59

Friend B's opinion is probably one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

Have your housewarming party it and don't invite 'Friend' B.

StillSmallVoice · 10/08/2017 11:59

WeAllHaveWings · 10/08/2017 12:13

Has Friend B bought their house and thinks they are better than everyone else or just a shit friend trying to take the shine of Friend A's excitement about moving into her new home?

Magic79 · 10/08/2017 12:16

Housewarming is for any move. Bot just first or for buying only. How ridiculous.

Questioningeverything · 10/08/2017 12:20

I'd tell friend b to stop pissing on your parade and she's no longer welcome to celebrate your lovely housewarming. Congratulations, I've moved twice as an adult (never again! Hate moving!)

It's a huge achievement and really exciting to move in with the person you love.

Enjoy your party! Make sure there's plenty of drink and nibbles- you can never have too many nibbles!

brightlightceiling · 10/08/2017 12:27

Wait a minute... so friend A wants to throw everyone a party and then people start bitching about the reason why???? I'd dump some of these "friends" who can't be happy for someone else.

LizzieMacQueen · 10/08/2017 12:29

To me a housewarming is to invite your new neighbours as much as your existing friends. Are you ?

HipsterHunter · 10/08/2017 12:33

Housewarming for rented houses don't count?

How silly. Anyway who cares, a party is a party. Birthday, new job, Halloween, summer, Christmas, New Years, whatever!

WatchingFromTheWings · 10/08/2017 12:47

Friend B is a misery guts! Have your party. She can always stay at home if she's not bothered.

The80sweregreat · 10/08/2017 13:36

thats just horrible, i hope that they throw the party and they dont invite her.
who needs people around like that?
