I think that's a lovely thing to find!

2017SoFarSoGood · 14/08/2017 22:55

Yes Amtoday That's the one.

I love it. Shall be sure to tell Kyle. He saved it 😜

I am happy you found a cool trinket OP. Smile But I do still have some unanswered questions... Did we ever get an explanation for the Ken/Kyle name confusion? How did he manage to crack it in the end, or is it a trade secret?

2017SoFarSoGood · 14/08/2017 23:49

Bayleaves somewhere up thread I explained the miraculous turning of Ken into Kyle. They are completely unconnected and DH selected the cheaper of the two. Not the recommended.

This, it appears in retrospect, may have been Kyle's first safe. He drilled and hammered and drilled some more. Then did some turning and listening. More of each. Bought more tools and voila. Unlocked.

Yesssss!!! It's open!!!!

I am SO relieved and pleased for you OP.

It kinda feels like when you're directing someone to an itch on your back for you and they find the exact right spot after a while.

Ahhhhh

73kittycat73 · 15/08/2017 00:09

Lol, thanks for the ride and the updates 2017SoFarSoGood. At least now the mystery is solved. Smile

AcrossthePond55 · 15/08/2017 00:14

That Mexican coin saved this from being another Al Capone's Vault.

Viva Mexico!!!!

WooWooSister · 15/08/2017 00:43

Hurrah! The safe is open. It had treasure historical coinage and 2017 updated the thread. Good results all round - cheers! Gin Wine

VinsArmy · 15/08/2017 01:51

At least there was an outcome unlike the the Victorian safe thread. I I thank you for that. And now I wonder what is is missing from my life that I get hooked on on threads like these.

sidesplittinglol · 15/08/2017 03:06

What was inside OP?????

coriliavijvaad · 15/08/2017 05:05

You can't just say "unlocked" like that without details. That's cruel.

2017SoFarSoGood · 15/08/2017 05:19

The pictures and description of what we found are on that last page.

Excellent work, op. Good luck with the house

KitKat1985 · 15/08/2017 07:34

Well I'm pleased there was something in there, even if didn't exactly justify the cost of opening the safe!

Thank you for the thread OP and good luck with the move. x

namechangedforthisreply · 15/08/2017 09:01

Well done OP the mystery is solved Smile

OJZJ · 15/08/2017 10:05

What if the coin is cursed??? What if whoever removes it triggers the curse of an old Mexican lady or the house needs the coin for said curse......

QuackPorridgeBacon · 15/08/2017 10:16

I'm slightly annoyed. I found the thread yesterday and have spent all my mumsnet time reading and catching up. For what? A coin.. can't believe I'm actually slightly disappointed.

Jux · 15/08/2017 12:56

Thank you. It was fun!

toldmywrath · 15/08/2017 13:48

Oh I'm so excited that you found treasure and not just the crumpled napkin. Smile

The use of the word napkin is cause for discussion in itself. Was it a cloth napkin, or a paper serviette? I think you'll find that they are different. Plus of course napkin can refer to sanitary napkin in places like France. Grin

toldmywrath · 15/08/2017 13:51

I may just have overused a word napkin in my previous post. Blush

2017SoFarSoGood · 15/08/2017 14:20

Toldmy I confess I too debates the use of napkin. It was a paper serviiette. Wow. My spell check did not recognize that word. Had it been a sanitary napkin I world have been much more disappointed.

Still feeling like this was a win. So glad it is done and I can get in with life.

  1. I'm intrigued by the amount of money you pay to a realtor/ estate agent. Does she keep the whole $100,000 or does some go towards other things. e.g deposit, solicitors?

It seems an awful lot for one house sale, surely she'd only need to sell one or two per year?

HeebieJeebies456 · 15/08/2017 15:39

i'd make a treasure map and leave it in there....

fuckingbigbowloffucksoup · 15/08/2017 17:37

Toldmywrath the $100,000 is a lot but is only a 5% fee on the $2,000,000 property selling price

lazydog · 15/08/2017 20:02

toldmywrath - Realtors charge a lot more than estate agents do in the UK. On our last sale here in Canada (in a very cheap area) commission was 7% on the first $100,000 and 3.5% on the balance, whereas in the UK we paid the estate agent 1.25% when we sold our last place.

The realtor does a lot more legal stuff than an estate agent though; writing contracts and negotiating, taking deposits and doing all the showings, not just the basic level of advertising and introduction done by a UK estate agent.
