To want to build a nuclear bunker in our garden.....

I'm genuinely contemplating it.

DH says isn't sure he wants to survive a nuclear war, and I think he thinks I'm joking, which - to be fair - I was when I said it on the day of Trump's inauguration.....

Don't forget Children of the Dust Lu, the only one that survived became the matriarch to a nation of mutants.

Easilyflattered · 09/08/2017 16:52

Another vote for immediate obliteration here.

I think after two weeks trapped in a fallout shelter or under an upturned mattress with my hyperactive ASD 5 year old, and my 8 year old asking what day we're going to Spain again, I'd be ready to crawl out and lick up the first radioactive fallout dust I could find.

orlantina · 09/08/2017 16:52

I give you Colin Furze

peppep · 09/08/2017 16:58

Never actually read any of these quickly logs into Amazon Read for downloads

Me too weegie. It's the turning into the biggest willy-waving contest in history.

Kursk Good point. Literally live on a farm in the middle of nowhere with nothing of note for a gazillion miles around so probably not overly concerning.......well, until Hinkley Point is finished at least (We're in Devon - not the most noteworthy of regions I suspect for an attack) could just be a very expensive man-cave I suppose?

Remote control machine guns in Lincolnshire shed entrances to bunkers? Shock

That guy's nuts.

pongoismyhero · 09/08/2017 17:00

I daresay you could survive kursk, I'm just not sure why you'd want to.

peppep · 09/08/2017 17:00

ORLANTINA Shit that is awesome!!!!!!!!!

I've seen [bits of] Threads. In the event of nuclear war I'd rather die.

peppep · 09/08/2017 17:02

Err okay - yes, SerfTerf just got to the wolverine-arms bit - I concur!

Jaxhog · 09/08/2017 17:04

Would you need planning permission to build one?

I'm with your DH though. Surviving would just mean facing Zombie hell with politicians and very rich people. Although the Swiss are nice.

orlantina · 09/08/2017 17:07

Would you need planning permission to build one

DS and I had this conversation. I suppose if it doesn't interfere with utilities and it doesn't block views?

People build cellars all the time.

Love Colin Furze. DS introduced me.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/08/2017 17:08

I want to be obliterated with all of the family, no way do I want to be part of a real life walking dead scenario.

Fuck that!

brightlightceiling · 09/08/2017 17:08

Placemarking for all the cool films and books mentioned Grin

HipsterHunter · 09/08/2017 17:09

Oh god no, I want to die in the initial strike please!!!

Angeldt · 09/08/2017 17:10

Ok I can understand why you would want to but can I tell you this. My oh is in the industry. So let's do a scenario. A big nuclear bomb goes off somewhere in the world and it takes out thousands of millions of us. Some people get in their shelters and are prepared to spend months underground. (Will also add this would also perhaps be applicable for those worried about a zombie apocalypse) Many countries have nuclear power stations (UK included ) these have to be constantly manned to keep safe. In reality these also would go bang in the weeks/ months after any major major world change so in truth we'd all be fucked.

Kursk · 09/08/2017 17:13

OP given your locations proximity to any targets, and the fact you live on a farm, your survival will be easy! There loads of forums and websites for research.

I would guess your biggest problem would be defending your farm from unprepared people!

peppep · 09/08/2017 17:16

Kursk Thanks - I wouldn't worry. I'm shit at growing anything. No one will try and loot from us.

pongoismyhero

I would want my family to survive because I enjoy life, As a family we are self reliant so apart from a few weeks in the basement I don't see a downside to survival.

Kursk · 09/08/2017 17:19

Angeldt

DH is in the nuclear powe industry. The power stations are designed to shut down automatically.

SmileEachDay · 09/08/2017 17:19

apart from the gin and opiates

Easilyflattered · 09/08/2017 17:19

It's not going to be very nice afterwards for survivors, people aren't going to queue nicely for aid, and a nuclear winter will mean all food crops fail.

Honestly, if it happened at night I would probably smother my children in their sleep and then drive towards the mushroom cloud, rather than face the aftermath.

BrieAndChilli · 09/08/2017 17:22

There is a bunker over our back fence somewhere as we live next to an army training ground. The barracks etc are miles away but they practice flying helicopters/jets, bombing and shooting etc behind us, my plan is to scale the fence and go find somewhere to hunker down in there.

peppep · 09/08/2017 17:22

Smile you found a fundamental flaw. I shall have to rethink my strategy.

NYConcreteJungle · 09/08/2017 17:28

EasilyFlattered going out Thelma and Louise style.

I think in reality, I would fight to survive.
