To try and park in this space (diagram!)

So I need to work at a different office today, they have a small car park (see diagram)
Is it physically possible to park in the top space if my boss is parked in his space
It's very tight (diagram not really to scale)
I don't think I can drive into the space but I can't reverse up the alley way as my mirrors are almost touching the walls each side
Shall I just block my boss in then move my car when he leaves?
And no I'm not a massively shit driver just not confident reversing in tiny spaces surrounded by brick walls

Whoever arrives first out of you and your boss needs to park in the space furtherest away. It will be much easier to park in the closer space and it still means you both will get parking spaces.

Akani · 09/08/2017 09:24

ETA. Needs to reverse park in to the far space. Not just park.

Speak to your boss, this is easily sorted with that agreement.

Shadow666 · 09/08/2017 09:28

It should be ok backing in. There's a pay and display car park near us where the end spaces can only be accessed by backing in from the entrance gate.Just try it and if you lose your bottle block your boss in.

viques · 09/08/2017 09:32

I would block him in and explain. there is something unnerving about parking next to walls! I have a small car and tried to park in a similar space a few weeks ago, gave up after third attempt and parked on the road. As I walked past a minute later a smarmy tosser in a HUGE car backed into the same space in one fell swoop. I immediately hated him with all the hate I possess.

Block boss in. It'll be fine as long as he knows - parking at my office is 6 cars all squashed into a small space. We have to block each other in but jiggle around when someone has to leave.

user1497557435 · 09/08/2017 09:36

Sorry - he/she knows

User0ne · 09/08/2017 09:37

hmmm, you should be able to reverse into that space (yes it means reversing down the carpark which you should also be capable of). If you're not confident reversing then it's something you should make a conscious effort to practice in less stressful spaces - it is a (very) basic driving skill.

I wasn't fully confident reversing after I passed my test so I continued to practice it after - not artificially - but if I was in a relatively relaxed situation and had the option of reverse parking I opted to do that over the (at the time easier) option of going in forwards.

The Highway Code says that you should always reverse park into bay spaces (because you know it's empty and so there would be a greater risk of hitting something you haven't seen if you reverse coming out).

RestingBitchFaced · 09/08/2017 09:42

Just block him in, your not blocking anyone else, and you can move if he needs to get out before you

WeAllHaveWings · 09/08/2017 09:46

If you park blocking your boss in you are preventing the other cars from reversing into that space so they can exit the car park driving forward.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 09/08/2017 09:51

Walk from the housing estate ten minutes away then, easy solution.

Notanothernamechangeaddict · 09/08/2017 09:52

Panic over! I was first here, no boss, reversed into the far space next to the wall, thanks ladies

I'd reverse down the 'alley' into the corner across from the space, and let your boss know if he needs to go out, you'll move it.

rightwhine · 09/08/2017 09:55

I'd only ever consider reversing in. If not forget it and block boss in. Why didn't you ask him if you could yesterday?

Oops4 · 09/08/2017 10:04

I think if you're asking MN if you can park in a space then you probably shouldn't attempt to park in it 😂

HotelEuphoria · 10/08/2017 19:20

Look love, if you aren't confident reversing into a restricted space, park elsewhere and walk. I did for years but then learnt to park in minute spaces and climb across the seats out of necessity.

KatoPotato · 10/08/2017 19:31

What can't your boss just do that when he gets there first? That would rally annoy me!

enceladus · 08/09/2017 11:19

Don't block him in. Can you go there at the weekend, or when it is quiet and nobody is around and do a few practice runs, until you get comfortable, it will give you peace of mind. When you reverse down, just concentrate on aligning your car with the driver side wall, keeping a steady distance from it, just concentrate on one side, when your outside car mirror reaches alignment with flat 1's first parking line, start locking your wheel fully whilst reversing and the car will slide into the space. It is actually completely doable. You'll feel good when you have mastered it.

HappyCamperZZZ · 20/09/2017 21:26

Have you tried ?
I have a Ford Galaxy which is a 7seater (i.e very long!) and sometimes have to park in a position that looks identical to what you have drawn and is also against a wall. Fortunately the car has a fantastically small turning circle. I reverse down the 'gully, and 50pence my way into the space. It takes ages but it is doable - have some faith in yourself !

HappyCamperZZZ · 20/09/2017 21:27

Oooops... just read thread properly - you succeeded ! Well done :) !!

SamanthaUnkim · 07/10/2017 10:45

I would go for it. After a couple of weeks you'll be "nailing it" like a pro.

Does he drive to work alone, if so don't even bother straightening up when you leave it parked, since he wont need to access the passenger door.

Your boss could help, by driving into his space are far as possible, to give you a bit more space to swing in .

Alibobbob · 08/10/2017 08:19

i think I would suggest moving the bins there and using the bin Bay as a parking space

ThePants999 · 08/10/2017 08:32

Why do people keep necroing this thread? Read the dates, folks. Let it die now...

hula008 · 08/10/2017 08:53

I would attempt to park in the space and if you get in you can ALWAYS get out the way you came (ie reversing out back down the car park) unless someone else has moved to block you. However, I have a very small car and am very confident parking in small spaces?

hula008 · 08/10/2017 08:53

Omg noo 😩😩😩 this is the first time I've ever been caught by a zombie thread

Olympiathequeen · 21/10/2017 14:58

Block him in but see him as soon as you can so that he can let you know when he is about to leave, so that you can move out when he leaves and repark
