...amongst other essentials the following items:
Wooden spoon or plastic/silicon equivalent
Whisk
Spatula
Scales
Large bowl big enough to make salad/ cake mix / whatever for six people
More than one tea towel (for 7 days)

Bonus points if you can guess what has inspired this.

Holiday cottage?

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:44

Close Alternative but bit more specific Smile

Did you just have 6 plates / 6 bowls / 6 glasses so you had to wash up a glass everytime too?

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 08/08/2017 22:44

Whisk bowl and scales I wouldn't say we're a 'must' to be honest.

Wooden spoon and spatula yes.

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 08/08/2017 22:44

Let me guess...centre parcs?

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:45

And oven gloves. FFS the one tea towel is supposed to double up as magical insulated damp protector of hands against all hot shit.

You've been asked to equip the kitchen for the big brother house? No?

Oh, you're a set dresser and you've been tasked with re-creating a perfect kitchen for a new mini series starring Julie Hesmondalgh and that guy off of Lovejoy? Not that either?

Ok, you're staying in an airbnb/holiday let and the kitchen has fuck all in it?
Whisk and scales is pushing it for a holiday let IMO, the rest is essential.

Leeds2 · 08/08/2017 22:46

Centre Parcs?
You need a corkscrew.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:48

Bingo!

Doing my head in this year.

I would also add in an ideal world:
Fridge big enough to accommodate enough food for said six people
Microwave not situated so high up I risk third degree burns to the top of my head when removing stuff
Cupboard door and dishwasher that can be opened simultaneously (Ok this is possible, but only in right order which it took me a few days to figure out!)
A bit more crockery.

AND A BLOODY WASHING MACHINE.

'Modern kitchen'

Cheese graters seem to be lacking in most places that I have stayed in. I have a bottle opener on my key ring for emergencies. not an alkie, honest

RiverTam · 08/08/2017 22:49

I don't think any of the baking stuff is essential. More than one tea towel and oven gloves are, though.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:49

Bingo was to Honey and Leeds.

I use kitchen scales daily at home. Never come across a holiday let without them. But her, in this fully equipped modern kitchen costing thousands of pounds er no.

Why do holiday houses never have sharp knives?

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 08/08/2017 22:51

Sounds really crap. I like a decent kitchen when we self cater. I choose self catering because I want to make lots of our own food. That's the point!

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:53

Good point youhavetobekidding the small knife is blunt too.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 08/08/2017 22:53

I'm in a holiday cottage with excellent sharp knives, kitchen scales, a microwave I can reach and a stick blender. It has a dishwasher, washing machine & a tumble dryer. This is my fifth or six visit. The kitchen is a big part of why we return.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:54

Exactly Snork!! Exactly.

Also pissed off at lack of anything even vaguely resembling health food in any of the vastly expensive places to eat out when you get too fed up of the magnificent self-catering.

OP posts:
PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:55

Healthy. Health food might be a step too far Grin

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/08/2017 22:55

youhavetobekidding I would assume because families spending large amounts of time together can potentially be quite dangerous...

NanooCov · 08/08/2017 22:55

Why do you use scales daily unless you're doing weight watchers?

A washing machine for a seven day stay is also surplus to requirements I reckon.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:56

Stick blender!!

OP posts:
PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:57

I mostly use scales

To make porridge
To make cakes (2x so far this week -using 'cup' measures in the huge jug)
Other things I cannot now think of...

OP posts:
PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:58

A washing machine is bloody essential for 7 days with several young DC.

OP posts:
TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 08/08/2017 22:58

We come for a fortnight. I wouldn't choose a place without a washing machine for a fortnight but then I am a resident of Old Slag Island.

I'm a fan of good holiday chips in plentiful quantities, but not for breakfast, lunch and supper every day for 14 days. I need plenty of salad to balance out the fish and chips. And the odd glass of WineGin.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 22:58

Though to be fair I knew the villa didn't have one of those though there used to be a laundrette
