...amongst other essentials the following items:
Wooden spoon or plastic/silicon equivalent
Whisk
Spatula
Scales
Large bowl big enough to make salad/ cake mix / whatever for six people
More than one tea towel (for 7 days)

Bonus points if you can guess what has inspired this.

We do not have a jacuzzi!

Vivienne wtf do you eat on holiday then? Genuinely?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/08/2017 23:54

But most Center Parcs holidays are for long weekend or midweek breaks, not even a full week, so I don't suppose they think people will be doing that much cooking and especially baking. I must admit we tend to eat out most of the time we are there as part of the holiday experience, but if we have cooked we tend to take things to heat up rather than cook from scratch e.g. casserole.

I am sure we have had oven gloves when we have been there.

I was very excited when we had a wine fridge one year, when we upgraded as a special treat. However, as I was the only one drinking wine in our party and I'm quite a light weight my one bottle of wine looked quite lonely Grin

HipsterHunter · 08/08/2017 23:55

@BackforGood centre parcs just is so amazing.

The dome isn't 'a swimming pool' it's a sub tropical swimming paradise with the rapids and slides and and outdoor bits and you can spend hours and hour and hours there.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were the annual centre parcs weekend and I love going now with family or with friends who have children! I'm the best family friend to go with because I'm happy to take your child round and round and round and round on the rapids or biking round and round the woods.

PenguinsAreAce · 08/08/2017 23:55

If I had a wine fridge I might be tempted to fill it with cheese Wink

I agree hipster. We love the pools etc. Cannot think where else so convenient in the UK we could replicate this.

I would just like the feeding the family aspect to be less irritating.

NoCapes · 09/08/2017 00:03

I don't own a wooden spoon (very unhygienic) or a whisk (just use a fork)
I wouldn't exactly call them necessities

PenguinsAreAce · 09/08/2017 00:04

DH says oven gloves not on inventory.

The could scrap the cups, saucers and egg cups and replace them with something from my list Grin.

Actually have been using the cups (as supplementary bowls for yogurt/ice cream) and saucers (as supplementary little plates).

Bigger mugs would be nice, especially as there is only one per person.

Maybe they just need to open a Lakeland outlet, to accompany the cool shades shop?

What do you bake the cakes in?

Sofabitch · 09/08/2017 00:17

I priced up a short stay at center parks in the school holidays ... it was more than the 2 weeks half board in tenerife with flights and transfers that i opted for... how do they justify the price.. they are shit. I really don't know why people continue to give them money.

roselover · 09/08/2017 00:19

I have just spent three solid days de personalising my home so it can be rented out on Air B and B .......tearing my hair out .....putting locks on things and storing my stuff ......baking a cake ?????? Do I have to leave baking trays??????......... a word to the wise its not as easy as you might imagine ......

MrsHathaway · 09/08/2017 00:32

We've always had oven gloves in CP villas. The naicer ones also had washing machines - though that was chiefly useful to spin swimming costumes between visits to the STSP.

Belgium CP was a better kitchen (had one of those cheese slicers which we enjoyed so much we bought one for at home) but a worse pool. That was De Vossemeeren. The pirate ship made up for it though: indoor beach with running stream and rocky outcrops for DC to roam all over in swimmers for hours while adults sit calmly in the fully stocked bar slightly above for optimal "benign neglect" viewing.

MrsHathaway · 09/08/2017 00:33

Incidentally I agree that homemade cake is critical to the enjoyment of a holiday, but I bake it in advance and bring with. Those bloody crap gas ovens are baffling at the best of times and wouldn't be any use for reliable baking when you're unfamiliar.

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 09/08/2017 00:45

Centre parcs is one of those places where the bigger your group the more value for money it is.

A group of 9 of us go every year for the five days before xmas and it works out at about 1000 which is just over 100 per person. This is staying in one of the 'deluxe' lodges as well with a dog. I don't think that's too bad for just before Christmas.

GammaDelta · 09/08/2017 00:53

I have not seen a cottage with washing machine , they usually have laundromats.. and no i won't expect banking stuff

lalalalyra · 09/08/2017 00:57

I hate self catering places for 6 that have exactly 6 plates. Let's have a nice salad dinner, but the cold meat has to stay in the packet as there's no spare plate to stick it on

robinia · 09/08/2017 01:00

I'm with you op.
Self-catering means self-catering, not eat breakfast in and then take all other meals at one of our overpriced restaurants.
I too have a large family and it's much more relaxing to hire a chalet (in the long gone CP days) or barn conversion and eat, sleep and chill out exactly when we want to.
I always take a vegetable peeler, sharpening steel and airtight containers.
I would expect any accommodation to have scales, whisk, and most definitely large bowls. One of the nice things about holidays is there's time to bake some cakes Smile

Alpacaandgo · 09/08/2017 01:16

Center parcs is usually a week maximum. Why didn't you take food shopping with you? Or make the cakes before you go and take them?

I've done centerparcs with 5 dc a few times and can't say it was any stress. And that includes younger ones (youngest was 3). I managed to fit all the food in the pans provided.

Eating out is expensive but again not stressful Hmm. There's rarely healthy food when you eat out but unless you eat out everyday it's not going to do any harm on the odd occasion.

If you've been before surely you know to take your weigh scales and teatowels. And enough clothes for a weeks holiday?

If there's kitchen utensils missing just go to the desk and tell them and they'll bring the missing stuff over.

Mum2OneTeen · 09/08/2017 02:09

Ha! How frustrating, you have my utmost sympathy. It's hard enough trying to prepare food in a strange kitchen without having to deal with non-existent and/or crappy equipment thinking about flimsy blunt knives. I'd say you'll need to do an emergency provision run to the nearest supermarket before the holiday is out.

After having to buy too many crappy kitchen supplies while we have been away in the past, I now try to remember to take:

  • Good chef's knife (absolutely essential)
  • Garlic press
  • Chopping board
  • Several tea towels
  • Rubber gloves for washing up
  • An apron
  • Stick blender
  • Silicon spatula
  • Bread knife
  • Good olive oil
  • Tamari/Soy Sauce
  • Lemons

I have been known to take good cookware/ baking tins as well.

Of course, none of this will help you now OP. But have a great holiday nonetheless.Smile

blackheartsgirl · 09/08/2017 03:05

I went to Pontins one year with my mum and 3 dc. In their chalet kitchen we had only 2 plates 2 sets of knives and forks, I saucepan and 2 mugs. There were five of us. And they whinged when we complained, said what we had was standard Confused. Never went back there

Skittlesss · 09/08/2017 04:34

The cleaner will change your tea towel.

I suspect most folk won't bake at CP, so they probably don't provide scales etc. I wouldn't say that's a holiday essential, especially there when you're normally out all day.

You seem to have been before and must have taken a cake tin so why not the rest?

BoffinMum · 09/08/2017 04:49

No bumsex on this thread then?

BusyBeez99 · 09/08/2017 06:15

European center parcs don't have ovens.
