To ask your experience taking morning after pill

I always said 'If you really wanted to remember to take the pill, then you would'. Here I am having forgot to take the pill for 2 days and I had sleepy morning sex today and it wasn't protected so I'm off today to a sexual health clinic to get the MAP.

Is it just a pill you take and that's that? Any side effects ? I'm quite embarrassed.

I got pregnant when I took the MAP

MsBeeSting · 08/08/2017 13:36

I just realised too that I took one sat night but went out and vomitted up my drinks multiple times so that's definitely a missed one. Takes 2 days to get back on track of a missed one. So technically missed Saturday, took Sunday's and not had one since. I'm definitely not in the clear am I?

Seems to depends on which pill you're on, but they all all say if you've forgotten to take 2 (or maybe 3) then you need to use another form of contraception.
I certainly wouldn't rely on it.

kali110 · 08/08/2017 14:03

I found a website, www.consult.womenhelp.org
Then its what if i miss one or 2pills? Seems to be a calculator there and it tells you where to get contraception etc

Decaffstilltastesweird · 08/08/2017 14:05

I've had to take it twice. Condom fail on both occasions. No side effects.

harriet0635 · 08/08/2017 14:10

I've taken the MAP once and once only and am now 36 weeks pregnant. I forgot to take my pill one day and had unprotected sex next morning. If you really don't want a baby, take the MAP as a pre caution anyway. 😬

Luckily I'm actually very pleased to be pregnant!

GinDoll · 08/08/2017 14:28

Took it after a contraception failure in 2010
No side effects other than it didn't work Confused but I do now have a very cute six year old I wouldn't be without so it worked out well 😆

crashandburnt · 08/08/2017 14:29

I've taken it a few times. It brings your period on early. Don't rely on it though - I have twice got pregnant after taking it within 24 hours.

GinDoll · 08/08/2017 14:29

PS kind of nice to know I wasn't the only one!

MsBeeSting · 08/08/2017 15:15

They didn't give me it but I can't afford to buy it anyway

You only missed Monday night?

For me, when i was taking the pill, that would have been perfectly fine. I was a very late withdrawer.

NoSleepSinceSpring · 08/08/2017 15:48

I took it 36 hours later. It didn't work.

MsBeeSting · 08/08/2017 15:56

I've completely messed up my days wrong. Last pill taken Saturday, thrown up that night. No pill Sunday or Monday

OP posts:
MsBeeSting · 08/08/2017 15:57

So 3 missed pills. I'm going to go back and explain my error

Good luck, I hope they give it to you this time. I've taken the MAP twice, the first time was the free one from the docs (the two pill type) which was fine and I had no side effects. The second was the one pill type from boots and I bled for three days. So just be prepared :)

Talith · 08/08/2017 16:12

In my experience it didn't make me feel sick but it did take three or four months for my period to return to normal. Odd bleeds etc and spotting before things settled. Also very very sore tits for several weeks.

Janeismymiddlename · 08/08/2017 16:14

Used it a couple,of times with breaking condoms. Used it once with my now ex husband and now have a third child. Just be aware there is a failure rate because if pregnancy isn't an option, you need to know sooner rather than later.,

Littlecaf · 08/08/2017 17:07

Have taken it three times. Once at uni years ago pre over the counter - had to go to doctors as an urgent appointment, everyone else in the waiting room was clearly doing the same. (On campus doctor).

Second and third times was from Superdrug. Cheapish, £20 I think. Chemist was nice.

I won't lie, there was no contraception failure. Just young stupidity. I don't have any STIs, v lucky. Wouldn't do it again. (I'm hinting at DP getting the snip after this baby is born. I hated the pill & implant.)

imamouseduh · 08/08/2017 17:15

It brought my period on early which took a couple of months to right itself. But this was years and years ago (it might have improved since then) and my periods always find a way to screw with me, so I don't know if this is to be expected generally.

MsBeeSting · 09/08/2017 15:31

Try 2. In a different sexual health clinic now. 2 hour wait surrounded by 16 year olds. Save me

OP posts:
rabbitcakes · 09/08/2017 15:34

I've taken it twice.

The second time is currently destroying my living room.

It isn't as effective as I thought.

WishfulThanking · 09/08/2017 15:41

It works by suppressing ovulation, so if you have already ovulated it won't work and you'd be better off getting the coil

pinkpixie83 · 09/08/2017 15:51

I've taken it twice too.
First time within 12 hours after a condom split with exH, the result is my 5 year old ds.

Second time again within 12hrs but thankfully it worked. Was with a casual partner again after a condom split. Thankfully was earlier in my cycle so it worked but did mess with my cycle.

MsBeeSting · 09/08/2017 16:04

It's been 36 hours now since the sexConfused you're all not very reassuring Blush

HipsterHunter · 09/08/2017 16:09

Felt fine. No issues. No embarrassment, the condom came off and neither of us realized.
