To be FURIOUS that dh drove home with dd2 in the car without putting her in her booster seat?

Well in fact I know that I am completely justified.

Nobboid

She was having a complete strop when he left his mums to bring her and dd1 home. Dd1 was fine, dd2 refused to get in her chair so he took it out and put her on the seat with the seatbelt on.

1 min drive but that is not the sodding point.

Can you all glare at him through this screen please so he gets the MN disapproving vibes?

I thank you

Olive

if dh did that to dd i would have been sooooo mad. I get angry when he takes his seat belt off before the car has stopped, lol. I don't think it's much to expect him to do something that I am forever telling her to do, how will she learn otherwise.

DD shocked herself a few weeks ago when dd was collecting me from shopping and she decided to undo her seat belt as they pulled up. She slid across the backseat and into the footwell. She didn't hurt herself but got an almighty shock so think it's done some good.

I've done that.

Ds older though (4).

But didn't have the seat (in Dh's car), just going round the corner, in a hurry....

and I can't guarantee I'l never do it again......

bozza · 29/03/2007 16:11

I would be furious too. Not as if the seat wasn't available. He took it out. What sort of a message is that giving to DD2? My DD tried this one on with me the other day. Sat herself in the gap between her and DS's seats expecting me to just fasten the belt round her. Like I am going to drive round with a 6yo in a high back booster, a 2yo with just the belt and an empty car seat. Then she suggested she sit in the front with the air bag. I am obviously made of tougher stuff than Mr Oil though. Wuss.

To the OP:Am glaring belatedly, lol!

Hulababy · 29/03/2007 16:15

Would be furious too. No excuse. Too late being sorry if an accident occurs. Most accidents happen within a few miles from home, so short distances should never be exempt.

very very silly.

(as an aside what booster have you got? My dd is 2.10 and too light for most of them and I am stressing about having to buy another stage 1 seat for all o 6 months.)

LIZS · 29/03/2007 16:21

[evil eye vibes], remind him that most accidents happen within minutes of home . What has dd2 learned Mr Oo - that a strop gets her her own way perhaps ?

3easterbunniesandnomore · 29/03/2007 16:24

Fio, it's one thing not to use anything because there isn't anything, anohter to blatantly NOT use soemthing that could safe your childs life....

willywonkasEgghunt · 29/03/2007 16:24

I often use taxis but always take a booster seat with me if I know that I going to travel in one, even if it's only one of the mor portable half-size booster cushion things. I frequently turn down lifts from people because they don't have a child seat, it's just the way it is.

Hulababy · 29/03/2007 16:28

I occasionally take taxis home, but normally have a car seat with me, even if just a booster cushion. Been in a taxi without a seat twice - both unavoidable and I hated the experience.

Also think this is a different situation - to actually move a car seat out of the way to allow the child to travel with out it IMO is wrong.

Have been in a car accident several years ago and I know that it is highly likely that the young children travelling with us, in the back, were saved from injury or worse by their car seats. This was in the days before car seats were common use. Why risk it?!

I am veyr rarely in a position where I don't know I'll be using a taxi. For us, taxi use is normally prearranged. So, yes, that is why we have a booster available.

bozza · 29/03/2007 16:32

Fio it is a bit of a different issue, actually moving a perfectly good car seat out of the way to accommodate a 2yos whims. Although actually I have only ever travelled in a taxi once with one of my children. This was when I was called from nursery to be told they had called an ambulance for my 11 month old son. Racing there I met the ambulance, travelled to A&E with him, but was then left stuck with DH working several hours drive away. I even had to divert the taxi via the cash point. I was unhappy about it but didn't have an option at the time.

willywonkasEgghunt · 29/03/2007 16:36

Don't see what the problem is. If you know you're going to need to use a taxi, then you make the necessary plans including a booster seat, where appropriate. They're a bit bulky but the half-size one I have is made of polysterene so is no weight and it fits into a large shopping bag.

I would only use a taxi if i had a booster seat or there was nothing else i could do and HAD to get somewhere.

I would never let children sit in a car without a seat if they were young or small enough to need one.

My BIL/SIL had a bad accident last May which ended in one nephew being seriously injured. If he hadn't been in a booster seat he may have lost his eye.

If you know you are going to be using a taxi then you should always have a seat if the child needs one. No excuse.

willywonkasEgghunt · 29/03/2007 16:45

Fio, you're very norty

oliveoil · 29/03/2007 20:16

well she used the seat

but refused to put on her coat or her shoes

and has just started wailing as my computer time has begun

I may get cross

back in a bit

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
