AIBU to think the people up the road were going to keep my package?

I'm a new poster here but have been a long time lurker.

I had a package delivered on Thursday, got an email notification to say it had been delivered while I was out and posted through my door. I came home to find the package wasn't there and the driver had signed on my behalf.

I called up the courier to find out where it was to be told that the driver did deliver it as he also made a delivery to the house 2 doors up. Now I live in an lmost identical cul de sac to the one up the road, the last name of the road is different but the beginning is the same as the one l live in.

Anyway after going back and forth with the courier and the online shop, I posted a note through their door up the road to say I know my package has been delivered to you as your name also received a delivery from the same people. Please could you contact me or pop it down the road. So they've had it since Thursday, and got the note from me yesterday. They've just text to say they have it.

AIBU to think that they were going to keep it? Just about to pick it up now, sorry for the long message!

You're right and you have been let down by the courier company and the recipients. But at least you've met each other now so hopefully it won't happen again.
It's frustrating when deliveries are messed up, can take ages to sort out.

I live in a village with several new estates which all have Facebook groups. If someone receives a parcel clearly wrongly delivered (there's a lot of Samename Road, Samename Street, Samename Close going on, not very imaginative!) they post on the group pages. Likewise if someone's expecting something which hasn't arrived (especially if it's marked as delivered online) they post and ask if people can check if they've seen it. Seems to work quite well, and the onus is always on the rightful recipient to collect, but some nosy helpful people are happy to pop over with the parcels and peek into your messy house at the same time Wink

Might be an idea to set up a group?? It's also been really useful for things like missed bins, any problems that might be common across the new houses, handyman details etc.

I've just spoken to my next door neighbour and a similar thing happened to her. It went up the road, she popped a note through then it turned up a little while later.

A Facebook group would be a good idea but both cul de sacs are fairly quiet in the keep to themselves type so not sure how to go about it.

Like I said it hasn't happened for a couple of years or so that I'm aware of so not usually a problem.

I thought this post would be more of a "ooh where's my package gone" type of mystery and a bit of lighthearted fun. Wasn't expecting the harsh posts.
