Argghh!! Just came out of my daughters school and stepped right in it. Right outside the gate FFS!! Can't you just pick it up with one of those charming little poop-a-scoop things. Evil, evil, evil. Rant over.

Okay, trying not to get my hackles up but when you say hot water, how hot?

Cold water's one thing, and I suppose an ultrasonic cat deterrent is expensive, but are you talking about scalding the poor animal?

bobsmum · 28/03/2007 15:32

Keep mis reading the title as something to do with "filming dog turds".

i hate those cat scarers, they really hurt my ears, i must be super sensitive, i have heard that they cant be heard by small children too because they can hear at higher frequencies. Lion poo is the answer, go to the local zoo and ask for some, it works apparently, well would you stick around long enough if you saw that and didnt want to bump into the producer! Apparently you used to be able to do that but now they wont, just a thought. I cant stand it when people dont pick up their poo, so why is it ok then that when my daughter is walking on the beach i think its unreasonable to have to contend with fish carcasses dumped by the local resturant trade.

Mossie · 28/03/2007 16:24

I think most cat owners try their best to keep their cats in their garden / yard. I know I do. He has a box full of soil to poo in. But I can't promise he doesn't occasionally venture out of my back yard... and yes that might mean that he poops in someone else's garden. I expect that if he did, he'd bury his faeces, like he does when he's in our yard. But no, I'm not going to buy him an electric shock collar ffs because that's cruel.
Why not just cover up the children's play area and then you avoid cats crapping in it completely?

And "something happening to their cat" - unfortunately the law isn't very strong against animal abusers but you may want to know that there is a chance that if you injure or kill someone's cat you could be liable for criminal damage at the very least.

Why not just cover up the children's play area? Or have a word with the cats' owners and try to come to a peaceful solution?

I'm right with you on this one Kerrymum. I would add though that never have I found dog poo in my garden that isn't from my own dog - dogs simply don't wander in and out of gardens in the same way that cats do. And -Mossie - as I don't always witness the cats crapping it is impossible to tackle a guilty owner correctly. And the cat poo is never buried.

Harryjake · 28/03/2007 16:58

Our local park has sectioned off an area where dogs are allowed to run and poo to their hearts content and the rest of the park is dog free so the hundreds of school children who use it every day can play safely. Seems more councils should adopt this idea. In France once I saw an actual dog toilet in a park, which was basically a big sand pit, but it meant dog owners had no excuse for letting their pets poo all over the grass.

mitzy1515 · 28/03/2007 21:27

I have never posted here before but when I saw this thread I thought I would. For the last 12 months or so we have constantly been trying to deter cats from using our garden as a toilet. There is ALWAYS cat poo, we only have a small garden and 2 toddlers so every morning we have had to 'poop scoop'. I choose NOT to have pets for that exact reason and yet here I am still cleaning up s**t

I also have a neighbour (few doors away) that I know lets their dog poo anywhere it likes and they NEVER clean up after it. I have witnessed this several times. What I find so shocking is that they too have 2 little toddlers that they take with them on their 'dog walks' and they let them wander in the grass etc .

I have complained to the relevant department in the council but they say they need names but I am reluctant to do this as dont want to start a neighbourhood feud. What would you do?

Troutpout · 28/03/2007 21:35

dirty birdies
I've said it before..
Nappies
Little doggie nappies

rantinghousewife · 28/03/2007 21:39

Mitzy, if I were brave enough I'd do what kerrymums neighbour did, pick it up and knock on their door and say 'I believe this belongs to you'. I'm not that brave tho'

Troutpout, on the dog?

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 28/03/2007 21:40

Thats exactly what I would do to

Nightynight · 28/03/2007 21:42

lol ranting. I would lie in wait for the offending cats with a water pistol, I think. completely sympathise with clearing up shit, really offensive. Evidently your garden has got more inviting soft earth than theirs.

rantinghousewife · 28/03/2007 21:43

Oh inviting soft earth. That sounds really lush!!

OP posts:
mitzy1515 · 28/03/2007 21:43

Dont think I could bring myself to actually pick it up though - think i would be sick first.

mitzy1515 · 28/03/2007 21:44

the dog poo that is - to put on the doorstep !!!!

rantinghousewife · 28/03/2007 21:46

Couldn't agree more mitzy, would be tempted to do it tho' if it got the point across. If I were brave enough!!
