moogoom · 04/08/2017 18:16

I want to break up the school hols with a trip around london, kids never been and now they are both 9 i really want to take them. We live in a small town snd run out of much to do in the summer, since we are not going away at all i am looking at cheap days out. Only problem is my dh and mil all say its too dangerous and dont want me to go. They keep rattling on about it every moment. Am i crazy or has london really changed into syria?

Of course yanbu. Your dh and mil are being silly.

NorthumbrianGirl · 04/08/2017 18:21

I did exactly this last weekend and myself and myself and my dds had a really good time. Definitely go for it!

coddiwomple · 04/08/2017 18:21

I'll start worrying when Kate and Will relocate their children Grin

But no, London is just busy with tourists, nothing unusual. You might notice more pedestrian protection on bridges but apart from that it's business as usual and doesn't feel any different.

NC4now · 04/08/2017 18:24

What about all the children that live in London? YANBU. They are.

missmapp · 04/08/2017 18:26

Of YANU, but this is exactly why I only tell my mother about trip to London ( and other major cities/ attractions ) on our return!

jmh740 · 04/08/2017 18:27

Ds went on cub camp last week so I took dd to London for 3 days were up near Manchester. I felt quite safe while I was there. Lots of bag searches and security at touristy places we went to. The eye museums, national gallery etc.

Domino20 · 04/08/2017 18:31

Huge overreactions from your family! Take the kids to London, they'll love it.

Racheyg · 04/08/2017 18:33

Op, I live in London with two kids. Took the dcs to the natural history museum today. Was totally rammed. People having a great time. Dcs will love it.

Sweetnessishere · 04/08/2017 18:34

I was there last week DC go in regularly and I'll be back in again tomorrow.

I am still more likely to be run over getting to the station than be in a terrorist attack.

sweetkitty · 04/08/2017 18:34

I'm just back from taking 4 children to London they loved it so much 3 years ago they wanted to go back. So much for them to see and do.

mailfuckoff · 04/08/2017 18:35

I'm taking my kids to London tomorrow, they love it and so do I. Plan ahead and it's an easy day out

LuLuuuuuuu · 04/08/2017 18:35

Your MIL sounds a tad dramatic

Many of us, and our children, live in London .

Take the DCs they will love it .

happydays00 · 04/08/2017 18:35

What a ridiculous statement from your DH and DMIL. There are quite literally millions of children that live in London - they're hardly locked in doors all day long are they?!

Floggingmolly · 04/08/2017 18:36

It's not dangerous at all. Come Smile

Pigface1 · 04/08/2017 18:37

They're being ridiculous. Millions of children live in London. It'll be great and you'll really enjoy it.

Hallomiaddicted · 04/08/2017 18:38

Syria! How offensive and distasteful. What do you think all the kids do here every day.

Pigface1 · 04/08/2017 18:39

Ps as you say 9 is a great age to take them, considering they've never been! They're old enough to appreciate it and find it really exciting.

Allthebestnamesareused · 04/08/2017 18:39

Hahaha

We are going down next week. Love our trips to London.

Your DH and Mil are overreacting!

mamaduckbone · 04/08/2017 18:40

Your MIL and DH are being ridiculous - go for it. Your DCs will have an amazing time. We've taken our two since they were tiny.

Drinaballerina · 04/08/2017 18:41

We were there today. No problems at all, DD had a fab time. Go and d enjoy!

Preciousprincess75 · 04/08/2017 18:41

Took ours last week from up north. They are younger than yours. We all had a fabulous time. Used a contactless card on the tube and bus and spent very little cash hopping from sight to sight. An unexpectedly cheap day out! Kids are already asking when we're going back. Smile

SheepyFun · 04/08/2017 18:41

You may want to point out to them that in 2011 over 2400 children (under 16) were killed or seriously injured on the roads in the UK. Do your children ever travel by car? If so, that's what your DH/MIL should be really worried about.

DoubleHelix79 · 04/08/2017 18:41

We live in London. It's basically a war zone - we have bunkered down with our DD and never leave the house. Windows are boarded over, beartraps are set in the garden. Grin

Seriously, I'd smile and nod politely and just go. There is a lot to do for kids and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

My top top is probably the science museum. It's really good fun (even for adults), and free. The natural history museum is also good.

imip · 04/08/2017 18:42

I live in zone 2 London with 4dc. They have loads of schools in London with lots of happy children - it's not dangerous for them to go to school, and they even get out and about on the weekend!

Yes, your family are being a bit dim....

Lweji · 04/08/2017 18:42

I hope they didn't mention Syria.

In London some children travel alone by bus. It can't possibly be that dangerous. :)
