Monday I went to meet my friend and her son (3) at soft play.
She had been living abroad for the last year.
I walk in soft play and see her son in the play area and walk straight over to him and pick him up and start talking to him
"You have got so big"
He looks at me so confused...obviously I haven't seen him for a year...so I say "I'm your mummy's best friend"
Then I spot my friend out of the corner of my eye ..carrying a random child!!!
It wasn't a random child,it was her son and I'm talking to a total strange child.
I smile and walk away very fast ....
Awkward!!

That's hilarious! I hope you put the random child down before you walked away Grin

Natanddogs · 03/08/2017 08:02

I did Grin every time I think about it I cringe so much.
I'm just pleased his parents didn't see..I could of been escorted out by security.

Are you sure your friend was carrying the right child? Wink

Natanddogs · 03/08/2017 08:09

Unfortunately for me yes ha ha
She said "you looked very friendly with that child? Do you know each other "
Emmmmmmm....

Grin oops!!

If it's any consolation I've told my child off for doing something at soft play, only to realise it wasn't my DS at all, just another boy with similar hair and the same colour t-shirt (back view)

MrsJamin · 03/08/2017 08:15

I'd never pick up a child of three that I hadn't seen for a year, even if I was sure it was them, poor kid!

ZippyCameBack · 03/08/2017 08:19

At mother and toddler group a few years ago, there was a kid who kept starting at me and he looked as if he was waiting for me to say something to him. He also seemed very attached to my kids, but I didn't think anything of it. The kid was with his childminder and as we were leaving I asked who the little boy was. She said "Your nephew"!
I'm still living that down.

honeylulu · 03/08/2017 08:27

Not quite the same but at my son's nursery Christmas show one year (he was 2) my husband spent the whole time zooming in on our son while he was videoing- got some great footage.
Except it wasn't our son. I admit he did look very similar and they were both in fancy dress outfits but he's never lived that down especially as our own son was on the same stage at the same time!

MummySparkle · 03/08/2017 08:30

zippy that's a classic! Grin

Natanddogs · 03/08/2017 08:44

Ha ha ha ha I'm pleased it's not just me who has had a blonde moment here and there Grin

I was at sift play watching my son as he played and I had a brew. Must have been watching him for a good 10 mins before I realised it was another kid in similar clothes with similar hair colour Blush

JamAndBread · 03/08/2017 08:48

Zippy! I imagine you weren't very close or you have a lot of nieces/nephews?

PsychoPumpkin · 03/08/2017 08:54

^ this, even if it was your friends child he doesn't have a clue who you are, hope on hindsight you can see it isn't normal behaviour to scoop up children you barely know and who don't know you.

RiversrunWoodville · 03/08/2017 09:11

DH (in his defence did have a migraine at the time) was picking dd1 up from school and said right come on we're in a hurry. He was baffled when she said are you taking me to my mum today? It wasn't dd1 but her friend with the same coat and school bag and her mum was wetting herself laughing (thankfully we were friends!)

NoCapes · 03/08/2017 09:15

Why would you pick up a small child who you hadn't seen in a year?
Even if it was the right child he'd still have had no clue who you were and probably would've been frightened
That's very odd behaviour Confused

lovethebeach · 03/08/2017 09:30

Haha some of these stories are hilarious and show we're all human and all make mistakes. When I was about about 9 or 10 we were swimming on holiday and I swam up behind my step dad, flung my arms round his neck and jumped on his back (like a piggy back). It wasn't him just some guy with similar hair 😱

Natanddogs · 03/08/2017 09:30

Oh get a grip odd behaviour.
Some people on here are so dramatic ..
I didn't pick him up and walk around with him,I picked him up (couple of inches off the floor ) and said you have got so big.
Bloody drama queens.

Years ago when my DS and DD were little, we were in a shop and I was completely stressed out because DS has autism and when he was little he really couldn't deal with public places, especially shops. I was holding his hand and I held out my other hand for DD who was next to me, I got hold of her hand (without looking) and said 'come on (dd's name) we have to go' she wouldn't move so I looked behind me... It wasn't DD, it was another little girl who was looking completely confused, I let go of her hand and said 'oh I'm sorry' looked up and her mum was stood there laughing :D :D

NoCapes · 03/08/2017 09:33

Hmm it was odd

Maybe avoid posting if you're going to have a hissy fit when someone disagrees with you
Bloody drama queen

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 03/08/2017 09:36

I agree OP, if you picking up a 3 year old you haven't seen in a while is "odd behaviour" Confused then you're doing alright in my book!

Natanddogs · 03/08/2017 09:37

Nobody is having a hissy fit Grin
As soon as I located the correct child,he was more than happy to be "lifted up"

That'll learn you not to put 'light hearted' in the title. Bring on the trolls and drama queens.

She mistakenly greeted the 'wrong' child. Not abducted it and buried it in a shallow grave either dead or alive.

Jedbartletforpresident · 03/08/2017 09:46

So it's not a child but I'm just going to leave this here anyway for your amusement - my most favourite story of mistaken identity - ever!
