To think Deliveroo is one of the best inventions of the 21st century?

I used to hate takeaways. I mean, id get them when I really couldn't be arsed to cook, but I always thought I could make a nicer dinner Blush also would always feel so rubbish and stuffed with unhealthy food after.

Then deliveroo came along! They deliver from the best Indian restaurant in my area, which got voted the best curry in the country. It comes in a massive box with loads of different elements. It's unreal and I've always been too nervous to change a winning formula and try another restaurant. But I've just had Thai pork belly roasted and then stir fried with green beans and a red curry sauce, sticky rice and chicken satay. It was ridiculously good, and obviously not healthy, but fresh and not packed full of shit that has you worrying about food poisoning.

And the customer service! My takeaway last week was an hour late, I complained and got £15 credit onto my account. Meaning my dinner today was free Smile it's never usually late, and they put £5 vouchers through my door every few weeks too.

As a foodie lone parent who's toddler isn't exactly conducive to a relaxing dining experience outside the home, I feel like deliveroo's actually changed my life a little bit BlushBlushBlush

I promise I don't work for them! I'm sure uber eat is just as good, they just don't deliver in my area. I just bloody luffs them and wondered if there were any other massive fansSmile

DS once delivered a single milkshake. Some people just have money to burn. Perhaps it was Naymar who ordered the milkshake?

ParadiseCity · 02/08/2017 22:49

I live at the top of a massive hill, I would feel like a total bastard making some poor underpaid sod cycle up it.

n0ne · 02/08/2017 22:54

Yes! Just used them today for the first time. I live in a small city on the continent, and the food choices are pretty limited for your usual takeaways. With the magic of Deliveroo I got a magnificent spaghetti alle vongole and fig and gorgonzola pizza from a rather swanky restaurant that doesn't otherwise deliver. What a fantastic concept! I could track the delivery in real time, it came really quickly and was piping hot. I'm a total convert.

backwardpossom · 02/08/2017 22:55

I always see them cycling about when I'm in Glasgow and wish that job had existed when I was a student.

Scholes34 · 02/08/2017 22:56

£4 per drop. DS can usually manage 5 in two hours. Sometimes there are tips too. He just hangs around in town with his mates and waits for the jobs to come in.

DumbledoresApprentice · 02/08/2017 22:56

They've only arrived here very recently and the choices are still fairly limited but the couple of times I've ordered I've been impressed.

cuirderussie · 02/08/2017 22:58

My son worked for them- they treat their workers like shit and I boycott them

scaryclown · 03/08/2017 04:03

So when a rider is down, they say go home, we wont pay you, and another rider takes over. They weren't being nice, they were being ruthless. Did they pay for the business costs of riders who are picked up by paramedics, or do they just wheel in another rider and say 'tough mate, you are no longer useful'.?

Guepe · 03/08/2017 04:13

Hate them and Uber. So exploitative. Couldn't use them in good conscience.

lljkk · 03/08/2017 04:38

I can't see it as ruthless. No more than any other traditional cycle courier set up, but more importantly, they provide economic opportunity & take motor cars off the roads. Win win.

supermoon100 · 03/08/2017 04:44

It's a terrible company

silkpyjamasallday · 03/08/2017 05:10

I love Deliveroo, they provided 50% of our meals when dd was newborn as I had HG so couldn't batch cook and freeze food in late pregnancy. But they pissed me off majorly this week as I ordered food, all confirmed, supposedly being prepared, the tracker was frozen on 17 minutes to go at 9.30, DP was out and DD was in bed asleep, no food in the house and they bloody cancelled my order! I was furious as I couldn't get out to the shops and ordering something else meant another 40 minute wait. I ended up having ice cream for dinner.

AlpacasPackOwls · 03/08/2017 05:31

They're not available where I live but I've seen them in Brighton and they're all on motorbikes and mopeds. Didn't realise they were on bicycles elsewhere.

Emillee · 03/08/2017 05:56

I live in east London &they don't cover us. They do, however, put adverts through our door looking for drivers/riders. We're good enough to deliver their food but not get it ourselves hmm

Never heard of Deliveroo before reading this thread, but surely they have to recruit riders in your area before they can deliver to your area??

Heathen4Hire · 03/08/2017 05:58

They pay their "self employed" staff shit money, treat them like shit and no, I don't use them. Or Uber. Or any app which exploits people.

DoctorTwo · 03/08/2017 06:28

So deliver makes money on someone else's work.

Brilliant.

That's what capitalism does. What a crazy idea, huh?

PoppyFleur · 03/08/2017 06:35

In our area the riders are so desperate to deliver the food within the acceptable allotted time that they become a liability on the roads. The number of accidents and near misses I have witnessed, caused entirely by cyclist error, makes me wonder how fearful the deliverer must be to endanger their own life.

There are very few gig economies that I could use in good conscience, Uber and Deliveroo have working practices that leave a lot to be desired.

Mrswinkler · 03/08/2017 06:41

The thought of paying eating out prices (and then some) to eat in baffles me.

Sallystyle · 03/08/2017 06:41

I have waited a long time for Deliveroo to deliver to my address. I always saw the bikes down my main road but for some odd reason they wouldn't deliver to my close. They do now but the options aren't great. I have wagamamas, GBK (which I love), Bryon Burgers (crap), Ask Italian, Giraffe, Pizza Express and some bakery.

I want Zaks added to the list and some decent Chinese and Indian restaurants.

Hillarious · 03/08/2017 09:43

That's today's youngsters for you. Where I live it's mostly uni students who are ordering the food.

frecklejuice · 03/08/2017 12:24

Dh and I have no one to babysit so never ever get to go out for nice food on our own. Deliveroo let's us order the nice food and get the kids into bed before it's delivered!

coffeeslave · 03/08/2017 13:40

They don't work like that - it's dependent on the restaurants. There are tons of riders in my area but they work where the "cool" restaurants are. So the riders from my (uncool) are have to ride into town to work.

Also they've been recruiting riders where we are for 3 years but still no service!

coffeeslave · 03/08/2017 13:41

Yeah, Deliveroo stick to "name" restaurants and chains, they won't work with your common-or-garden chippy or Indian/Chinese takeaway.

Where I live, deliveroo has an option of delivery from only 6 restaurants. Just Eat has a much wider range, including for most of those deliveroo cover. Plus Just Eat is free delivery
