DS's birthday cards

VampireSnail · 31/07/2017 13:52

DS has recently turned five. His cards are still displayed on the mantelpiece and in the grate. He's had about 40 (class birthday party) so there's quite a lot.

My mum had a rule that they had to be down after one week Hmm

AIBU to have kept them up for two whole weeks?

How long do you keep up yours?

This is obviously playing on my mind! Wink

We go for 2 weeks max

ajandjjmum · 31/07/2017 13:53

Two weeks at least!

RedGrapeCornSnake · 31/07/2017 13:57

We still have Father's Day cards and an end of May birthday cards up

Witchend · 31/07/2017 13:58

We used to have them.up until the next birthday. Which I felt was unfair as dsis had 6weeks, I had less than a fortnight, and dbro had 2.5 months.

I think a fortnight seems reasonable.

frid · 31/07/2017 14:02

Next birthday, which is 6 months for one of my family members and 3 days for another

Ravenqueen85 · 31/07/2017 14:03

About 2 weeks is the norm here.

VampireSnail · 31/07/2017 14:06

Ah, thanks all.

I was starting to feel like a slattern!!

I'll start taking them down as they're starting to fall over. And Ive been too lazy to put them upright

Don't think I've ever known anyone to leave cards up till next birthday. Gosh, wonder what my mother would make of that...?!! Grin

2-4 weeks here usually.
Birthday banners come down the next day though (and stored to be reused for next birthday).

VampireSnail · 31/07/2017 14:09

RedGrape I only took the Father's Day cards down for the birthday cards - so they'd been up over a month. Only two though so didn't bother me - thought they were quite tasteful too

40 cards of mainly pirates and superheroes are starting to irritate me Grin

2 weeks. There are only 3 weeks between DD's and my birthdays!

VampireSnail · 31/07/2017 14:10

And helium balloons remain until they're dead on the floor 🤣

I was 'derived' as a child as my sisters birthday is the day after mine and then my brothers birthday 2 days after that (28, 29, 31) so was only ever able to have my cards up for 1 day

Nanasueathome · 31/07/2017 14:13

Aaarrgggg stupid autocorrect
That should say 'deprived'

19lottie82 · 31/07/2017 14:14

I take cards down after a week. Am I a big meanie? Blush

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 31/07/2017 14:17

A week here, I was told it was unlucky to have them up longer but I'm sensing that may have been a cunning ploy to declutter the windowsill...

EnidNextDoor · 31/07/2017 14:19

I had Christmas cards still blutacked up in May one year.

Scrumptiousbears · 31/07/2017 14:21

We go for one week but as we went away for a week the day after DD birthday we have kept them up for a second week.

youngestisapsycho · 31/07/2017 14:25

I take them down after one week too...

RainbowsAndUnicorn · 31/07/2017 14:27

The next day for us, Christmas cards come down the 31st.

BalloonSlayer · 31/07/2017 14:28

You want me to come and sort the balloons for you?

I charge a small fee, but I do love my work . . .

TallullahFrancois · 31/07/2017 14:30

Birthday cards are removed from display the following day in my house. Seems pointless having cards up when it's no longer someone's birthday.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/07/2017 14:32

One week. No longer. Looks so untidy!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 31/07/2017 14:32

I do a month! Blush but it's just me atm. I'd probably do a fortnight max otherwise to avoid crowding. Xmas cards are removed on twelfth night, along with the xmas decs.

nonwonderwoman · 31/07/2017 14:34

3-4 weeks here - I think they are quite nice and our family birthdays are happily spread out throughout the year (May, August and December), with the exception of DD and DH who share a day so they share the mantelpiece.

Witsender · 31/07/2017 14:35

Goodness, a couple of days here normally. A week max.
