Going to Turkey next week, ds has prescription sun cream due to allergies, was prescribed by his dermatologist in 2012 and he gets 3 bottles every year.

Now I asked for his prescription on the 21st June, (alongside other medication) and his sun cream wasn't there, with another medicine that he needed, thought human error, ordered it again, went to collect it on the 28th June, got the medicine but no sun cream, again told the receptionist that his cream was't there, she said she will order it again and leave a note.

Went on the 3rd July to get sun cream, and again no script, I asked to speak to the practice manager as it will not be the 4th time I had asked for the cream, got told the PM was at another doctors but they would call me, in the mean time the receptionist said she will order it again.

PM didn't call me so I called again on the 6th June and requested a call back and asked if his scrip was available.... no it wasn't

Called my GP again on the 12th July, and the 13th July as still waiting and no script.

Went to the GP on the 18th July for the complaints procedure, and got a very rude woman, who said the PM was busy, and she will me when she can.

I asked for an appointment for ds1 and 2,, advised that it wasn't an emergency however I would need an appointment, she asked what it was for and I advised it was a private matter, she told me she could not give me an appointment without me telling her.

I said is there a private room we can have (waiting room busy, and in my practice, there is 4 other GP practices) she told me No, so I advised that I would not be disclosing there complaints to a full waiting room. She told me she would not give me an appointment, at this point another receptionist came over I explained and I was given an appointment for today.

Ds1 has been referred to hospital (he has a undescended/retracted testicle) so possibly need surgery as he is 11 and having some discomfort with it now.

ds2 I needed some antibacterial cream as his skin is infected, he also needed his cold sores to be checked out, as he gets one and as soon as we get it cleaned another turns up, however pretty horrific. (ds2 has a compromised immune system, so cold sores are common for him, however currently they are horrific)

While at the doctors, I also asked about his sun cream, doctor advised that sun cream is now no longer provided by the NHS and he would need to be seen by a dermatologist, I advised that he is under this and it was then who had given him the script. He said he could see this, however it needed to be reviewed every 3 years, and it would be rare that it will be given out now.

I advised that if I was told this at the time (21st June) I could have had ds on trial creams, however could not do this

I said I could under stand this, however we go on holiday in 8 days... he said he could not help and that it was the NHS who had stopped it.

I advised if I was told this on the 21st June, I could have spoken to his consultant, however couldnt do this with 7 days to go. GP said I would just have to try, or he could give me a private scrip, which I have taken and paid £78.78p for 4 bottes of 120 ml sun cream to last him the 4 weeks!!! AIBU to be fuming at the doctors for this

And to make matters even shittier, ds left his wallet on the pharmacy desk, and a woman has stolen it, caught on CCTV, pharmacist seen her with it, and knows who she is as she handed a prescription in, so got the Police coming to me tomorrow also for this (alot of money in his wallet as he just had a special event)

Sirzy you got me curious regarding this, I can buy blue inhalers now online and would have had it delivered to me by Tuesday, if I had proceded with the transaction Shock without a script.

I'm bored the police are calling me between 8am and 9am so I'm just filling in time Grin

I'm confused: needs expensive sun cream as allergic, sun but for his allergies?

Wtf

Never heard of even the most allergic person needing 4 epis, they just carry the two around, for home or elsewhere.

Sirzy · 29/07/2017 09:04

Keeping rescue meds in school is common practice. Especially for young children. It means the staff always know exactly where they are and there is no danger of them being forgotten.

Bunnyfuller · 29/07/2017 09:13

OP: hi, could I have a repeat of DS sun cream please?
GPs: Sorry Mrs Wheesht, it's no longer available by prescription
OP:oh, I didn't know that, OK.

The end.

Sheeesh

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 29/07/2017 10:22

Exactly Bunny, instead I was led for a month then had no choice or alternative option to pay for his cream, I could have have tried alternative creams, I could have looked around for buying options, instead I was left with panic buying.

Haud you don't live in Surrey do you? Your surgery sounds so like mine Wink

Bunnyfuller · 29/07/2017 15:46

But I thought they told you you couldn't have it, and you disputed that?

It carrying on a month is as a result of you still trying to obtain it on prescription?

What's your DC anaphylactic to?

OhTheRoses · 29/07/2017 16:17

Bunny you have completely misinterpreted the op's situation. Can you not read the thread. OP was messed about for a month and was not told at the outset that the cream was no longer available.

BabychamSocialist · 29/07/2017 17:32

I think it's part of the job description that doctors' receptionists are arseholes! DS2 has prescription suncream so I don't think it is an NHS rule. Maybe it depends where in the country you are.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 30/07/2017 06:50

Bunny the did.... a month later.... you need to read the thread.

Tbh baby other than the ride receptionist they receptionists didn't understand why it was being prescribed and kept trying to order it.

Thought I'd update on this, we changed surgeries and new doctors prescribed the cream, ds does meet the criteria due to his skin grafts. his GP and consultant have now had something put on his file that he gets this cream, and also 4 epipens at a time, so he's covered at all times.

Ds will also be going on a new trial for his allergies in the hope we can lessen them, he's a perfect candidate apparently, however extremely anxious about this.

Upshot is I received his cream yesterday also, so now I don't have to worry about sun cream running out Grin

New doctors surgery is bloody fantastic.

So after insisting repeatedly that this thread had nothing to do with the cost of providing the suncream yourself, the first thing that you did when registering with a new Dr is get your prescription reinstated??

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 04/08/2017 13:46

Nice presumption there sedona Hmm as part of our new patient registering, our repeat prescription was reviewed as well as medical history taken.

The GP, and the nurse practitioner called ds2 consultants due to his extensive medical history, in which suncream was prescribed as part of his repeat prescriptions!!!

as always with some MN posters, always jumping to judgment incorrect conclusions!

Sedona123 · 04/08/2017 15:38

You could have said that you were happy to buy it yourself, like most people do when offered a prescription item for their child that they can buy over the counter.

The NHS is really struggling. We should all do our bit to pay for things that don't need to be prescribed.

Columbine1 · 04/08/2017 16:44

Any good news re DSs wallet?

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 04/08/2017 17:07

sedona I cant even be bothered to answer you, there is a multiple of reasons why I require his sun cream on prescription, cost isn't one of those reasons, however no point in flogging a dead donkey, you've made your judgemental mind up!.

Columbine1

Ds wallet is still in hands with the police, they advised I should be hearing something this week regarding it, on ds wallet tho, today we had an unexpected surprise gift for ds2, I cannot say too much as it would owt me, however Dh has some amazing thoughtful and generous work colleagues in his life Star
