I'm so sad today, got the keys but it seems totally impossible.
Everywhere is dirty, muck everywhere, the walls are scruffy, the skirting boards and doors are a horrible dirty yellow (that the white has turned into )
I don't have anyone to help me decorate so it's all on me.
I just feel sad

I think a clean house in good repair is the minimum that they should be offering people.

mummysmellsofsick · 28/07/2017 17:28

When I got the keys to where I live now I sat down on the horrible moth eaten carpet in the living room and wept. Been there a year now and i have at least cleaned everything. I've also decorated 2 rooms. It will take time and it's horrible when people leave a place in a mess but you can do it. My cheap cleaning friends were sugar soap and soda crystals... you don't need to spend a fortune on mr muscle etc. Good luck Flowers

You are very lucky to have been offered a council house with a secure tenancy. I really can't see what you are moaning about. There is nothing wrong with any of the pictures you have put up. You are coming across as a bit entitled to be honest. What you have is what thousands of people start off with every year and manage to put a bit of paint on the walls and some flooring down without coming across as so ungrateful.

Kellyjohnson23 · 28/07/2017 17:29

I think I've just let my brain go into overdrive thinking of what needs doing etc
My house I'm in now was even worse and now it's lovely (if it wasn't for neighbours and anti social behaviour I would stay )

I think it should be cleaned op. You are paying rent after all.
Anyway, onwards and upwards some sugar soap bleach and elbow grease and it'll be brand new

Ontheboardwalk · 28/07/2017 17:32

I don't think it's that bad, you can soon have it looking lovely.

I think it's just because every room needs doing it makes it seem overwhelming. Tackle one room at a time and take lots of before and after shots and you'll soon see a difference.

Sugarformyhoney · 28/07/2017 17:32

The house is so much better than so many new let's I see OP, you are actually lucky x

SabineUndine · 28/07/2017 17:33

Can't you get a friend to help you out or at least keep you company?

TeaCake5 · 28/07/2017 17:34

You sound so entitled. Go and rent private then if you are not happy with your place.

Dancingfairy · 28/07/2017 17:35

My bath room was vile, I should put a pic up if I have one you wouldn't be complaining if you saw what mine was like

Kellyjohnson23 · 28/07/2017 17:35

I have a friend I could ask yeah ..
I'm not entitled at all

In our borough the council clean, repair and do a paint job (everywhere is painted white) before the new tenants move in - unless they have to be in PDQ for some reason (e.g. domestic abuse) then it is done round them (and they get a choice of paint colours).

anyoldname76 · 28/07/2017 17:35

ours was awful, floors were properly sticky, graffiti on the bedroomwalls, every room had to be deep cleaned, decorated and carpeted me and dh did it in a week with help from my dad. the council were useless but tbh i was grateful for the house.

Kellyjohnson23 · 28/07/2017 17:39

Tbh I wouldn't of minded white ..
Fingers crossed things look better soon

I hope you and your daughter will be very happy there.she is very lucky to have such a capable mum.well done x

FlowerFairyLights · 28/07/2017 17:42

I'm not sure what's wrong with it from the photos. Nothing peeling, no junk, just looks like empty rooms in a neutral colour! Once flooring and furniture are in it will be fine.

Most houses look like that when you move sofas/beds I'd say it was normal.

Just a thought.....but why are the council moving you....rather than the antisocial people you are moving to avoid...that's not fair

Dancingfairy · 28/07/2017 17:45

That was my bathroom, can't see anything wrong with your apart from the flooring is ugly but cheap to replace

CremeEggThief · 28/07/2017 17:45

Those walls are fine, OP. Once you get your flooring sorted, it'll be grand.

I agree that houses should be left clean, but it's up to tenants to organise flooring and decorating. After all, we don't have to pay a deposit. I've moved into 2 H.A. properties in the past couple of years and had to pay for flooring myself.

My current house was clean, but surely everyone cleans their new house as soon or just before they move in anyway? It's the only way that you know it's clean to your own personal standards.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/07/2017 17:48

There's nothing wrong with that at all, that's in nicer condition than any flat or house I've ever rented/ bought! It's hard moving but honestly it'll look fab when the flooring is down.

Kellyjohnson23 · 28/07/2017 17:48

Anyone have any idea roughly how much new Lino would be for bathroom?

I'm failing to see this from the pictures you have posted Confused

MusicToMyEars800 · 28/07/2017 17:49

I would just buy lots of cheap magnolia or cream and paint the lot, it makes it seem much cleaner, gloss the skirting and door frames and you're already halfway there, then all it takes is some time and elbow grease with sugar soap, bleach, flash etc, it can be done just takes time.
I had to do this in my old place.
