Okay I'm probably BU but I decided to listen to Space Doggity again and started reading stuff about Laika and I'm just HORRENDOUSLY angry at the people who did this to her and how scared she must have been and how alone she must have been when she died :(

I have 0 maternal instinct for babies but all I want to do is cuddle that poor dog who died terrified and alone in space.

I'm gonna do some tribute art but I'm just so sad and I don't really know WHY this has hit me so hard.

OP posts:

People are still horrible to animals. Why not do something to help?

makeourfuture · 27/07/2017 07:59

Everyone here could turn to vicious savages under the right conditions.

SerfTerf · 27/07/2017 08:00

FFS, posting links of things should be crying about 🙄

user1497480444 · 27/07/2017 08:01

Laika was given the best and mot loving possible last few days on earth, and died very early into the mission, and has been remembered with love and regret by the whole human race ever since.

DramaInPyjamas · 27/07/2017 08:05

It's not empathy top trumps ffs. I loathe comments like "Meanwhile in Syria.."

You can have compassion for many things at once (although sometimes I wonder on MN)

Guepe · 27/07/2017 08:05

I find it a very poignant story, YANBU.

Such pissy responses in here.

DressedCrab · 27/07/2017 08:07

I feel so sorry for you, OP. To have feelings for a dog long dead yest none for humans suffering now isn't normal.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 27/07/2017 08:08

You have every right to cry over whatever you want, cry it out then move on with your day.

Come on kid, have some teaBrew

DramaInPyjamas · 27/07/2017 08:11

Where* in the post did inkzooka say that they have no feelings for suffering humans DressedCrab?*

Zero maternal instinct and preference for dogs is perfectly normal.

CockacidalManiac · 27/07/2017 08:15

My point was that thr case of Laika was a mere piss in the ocean of things that the Soviets got up to. It's not even the worst thing that they did in their space programme. it's not the same as 'it's worse in Syria'. I imagine that Laika had a better life than some of those who built and then strapped her into the rocket.

pigeondujour · 27/07/2017 08:16

@DressedCrab do you feel better now? Oddball.

Lilmisskittykat · 27/07/2017 08:19

Can't believe there are posters on here suggesting 'better tragic incidents' to cry about... seriously?!

I think we can be an awful species sometimes, and I think although we can be bad to one another there is something so much worse about being awful to animals who put their love and trust into us as humans to look after and care for them.

It's ok to be sad and moved by our past... there any many things that have been done in this world in the name of progress and there is nothing wrong with remembering where we have been so we never think some behaviour is tolerable ever again.

I'm sorry you are sad.. I didn't know a lot about this and you have educated me xx

There is a lot of good people do to.. few you tube videos will show that. Maybe take comfort in the good and if there's something you do to be part of that heart of humanity you might get a lot from it xxx

MrsJayy · 27/07/2017 08:21

I cry over all sorts of what some people think trivial doesn't mean I don't care or cry about the big stuff.

FruitCider · 27/07/2017 08:23

There are humans, including children, drowning in the sea every day trying to claim asylum. Millions of people are currently at risk of death by starvation in Yemen. Young women are being trafficked over Europe for sex. Human organ harvesting is a booming business.

I cannot get too distraught about a dog from the 50s. I think your distress is misplaced. I'm vegetarian by the way, but I do understand the need for animal testing back then.

duracellred · 27/07/2017 08:25

What on earth???? I would be sobbing regarding poor Charlie Gard.

PetalHead · 27/07/2017 08:27

Remember what's often said on here about abusive men and red flags - one red flag is lack of compassion for animals.

OP being moved by a dog's plight isn't some kind of weakness.

pigeondujour · 27/07/2017 08:27

@duracellred what's stopping you?

DanHumphreyIsA · 27/07/2017 08:29

Seriously, some of the replies on here. It's like telling someone they shouldn't feel happy about a birthday present, because there are better things in the world to be happy about.
People feel different levels of sorrow for different things, I think it's called being human.

LinoleumBlownapart · 27/07/2017 08:33

Lots of the use of the word "I" on this thread. The OP'S upset, belittling that upset or lacking empathy is not helping anyone. Cry on OP everything on this planet has the right to be here, to be thought about and to be remembered, your feelings about one tragedy should not be an open invitation for people to play tragedy top trumps Hmm

MineKraftCheese · 27/07/2017 08:39

You are not unreasonable, wee lamb. But you sound like you could do with talking to your GPFlowers

roarityroar · 27/07/2017 08:42

Tribute art?!

FruitCider · 27/07/2017 08:43

I don't think it's unreasonable to shed a tear. But to cry for 2 hours over a dog that died 60 years ago?

muddlefuck · 27/07/2017 08:46

tribute art. what will you do with the tribute art

mumoseven · 27/07/2017 08:47

I cried the other night watching Harry and William talking about their mum. I realised it was also about my daughters who lost their dad a year later, at similar ages, and feeling regret at not handling it properly.
And also because Granny Di never saw her grandkids, and she would have loved them, as would my exh have loved ours

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 27/07/2017 08:48

ink perhaps you are simply due for a bloody good cry. I don't mean in a PMS way but we all need a blubber now and again, it lets tension out. Is everything else OK in your life? Brew
