To think that 4 1/2 hours is too long to be waiting on the roadside for Greenflag while I'm with a toddler??

Dont use Greenflag or their sub contractors Kavenagh they kept me waiting at the roadside with a toddler for nearly four and half hours. It was impossible to complain because the complaints system so bad and then they offered me £100 and closed the case off without a full investigation. Terrible terrible service.

Can you imagine the outrage if women were sorted before men simply because they were male

worridmum · 27/07/2017 01:54

Damn it i meant after men

TupperwareTat · 27/07/2017 02:14

Green Flag £5.50 a month. I rang them as my car was on my drive with a flat tyre.
They rang a local garage, who came out 20 mins later.

MummySparkle · 27/07/2017 02:31

That does seem like a very long wait.

Also £36 a month for bereakdown cover?! Shock We get our AA cover through our lloyds bank account. £10 a month gets us both (joint account) mobile phone insurance, basic AA cover and European travel insurance. It's cheaper than it would be to just insure one iPhone (or it was when we first set it up). AA have saved me on numerous occasions. Usually been an hours wait, but I've never been a priority and always been somewhere safe. They got to DP very quickly when his car died on the motorway. We were supposed to be part exchanging the next day so they towed it directly to the car dealership for us. Unfortunately the car was practically worthless by then!

LadyB49 · 27/07/2017 03:10

RAC messed with us. When dh car's engine blew on motorway in Republic of Ireland they said we weren't covered. I was at home in northern Ireland and was able to phone them and quote from the policy that we were covered. Also emailed a copy to them highlighted. Meanwhile dh is 200 miles from home and they're still insisting we're not covered. We had to arrange ourselves for an uploader to go and uplift car and dh and bring them back. Cost a fortune. I kept insisting to RAC that it should have been their responsibility. Eventually after several weeks they admitted their mistake and gave us £50 compensation with apologies. Wouldn't cover the cost of the uploader.

Never had an issue with green flag! But if you're not happy move on!

Phillipa12 · 27/07/2017 06:07

My mum used to be with the rac, never again after she was left waiting for 3 hrs 30 years ago with 18 month twins and 8 months pregnant, apparantly she wasnt high priority! Have never had a problem with either the aa or green flag.

Green flag is cheap. You get what you pay for with breakdown cover.

londonrach · 27/07/2017 06:46

Better than aa which was the next morning from 6am single woman lonely road. 4 hours when pregnant green flag. Understood why as busy.

londonrach · 27/07/2017 06:47

Just seen £36 per month! We pay that per year! In which case you need a recovery car following you all the time!

londonrach · 27/07/2017 06:48

Should add ive found green flag the best of all them as they use local people so tend to be freer

tallulahturtle · 27/07/2017 07:02

Getting my helmet ready but it may be an idea to learn how to do simple things like change flat tyres, then you won't have to rely on breakdown cover for things that are easy to fix yourself. If you are on a motorway then fair enough get someone else to do it as they are trained to deal with hazardous environments but on a normal road just crack on and you will be on the move in no time. Have no idea what the ops car issue was but just seen how many of you call out breakdown for flat tyres.

Chopchopbusybusy · 27/07/2017 07:09

I've had bad service from all three but RAC is the worst in my experience. My renewal is due soon and I'm thinking of giving green flag another go as they do use local garage so probably respond faster.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 27/07/2017 07:26

I think you were unlucky. I've never had a problem with Green flag. Their prices are affordable and they've always come very quickly. The RAC on the other hand were total shits and left me stranded; lone female, physically disabled and in the dark. I raised an almighty complaint and they did compensate me but it took a lot of effort and complaining. They really couldn't see how vulnerable I'd be left nor did they think it was an inadequate service based on what I was paying.

youarenotkiddingme · 27/07/2017 07:41

GF were amazing when I broke down coming off the motorway.
I said I was with my autistic son and asked if they would be long so someone could come and get him.
Told no they'd set me as priority as had a disabled passenger and they took 20 minutes - on a Sunday!

Migraleve · 27/07/2017 08:44

tallulah. Most new cars don't come with a spare and very few people add it on as an optional extra. So the owners of new and newer second hand cars won't be able to simply change a flat themselves. I know how to and have changed many tyres over the years (driving Job) but neither of the new vehicles I own now have a spare, I considered buying one but weighed up the options and breakdown cover if I can't get it to a garage or have them come to me seemed like the better option. Breakdown cover cost less than a spare tyre, but the potential benefits are much greater as it covers me for more.

TheSolitaryBoojum · 27/07/2017 09:00

Did you make the circumstances clear to them? Were you in a very rural area? I've always found GF reliable and quick, only time that we waited ages was on the moors in bad weather, and the guy was sorry it had taken so long to track to where we were.

ShatnersWig · 27/07/2017 09:05

Only thankfully had to call Green Flag once but that was in the middle of nowhere and they were with me within 45 minutes. The cost differential between GF and AA is ridiculous.

ShatnersWig · 27/07/2017 09:08

Actually, never really thought about that worrid but everyone pays the same rate for the same service but some get preferential treatment because of their sex

itstoolateforthisbollox · 27/07/2017 10:05

actually people don't pay the same rate for the same service at all, but women get preferential treatment for good reasons, as do people with small children in the car.

Chottie · 27/07/2017 10:09

I am with AA and called them this week when my car broke down on the M25. They were with me within 20 mins. The repairman spent 30 mins diagnosing the fault and then towed me home. I was very pleased with the service.

Standing behind the crash barrier on the M25 is not a comfortable place to be.

Andrewofgg · 27/07/2017 10:21

OP Do you expect a van to be diverted to you from another job?

ShatnersWig · 27/07/2017 10:24

Andrew I think that's where I picked up on worrid's comment. It's ridiculous for someone to wait 9 hours for a service they are paying money for "just" because of someone's sex. A woman stranded in the middle of nowhere - absolutely. But the likelihood of all 14 people before her brother being single women in the middle of nowhere seems rare. If you've broken down in the middle of a busy town during daylight hours, you're probably going to be pretty safe. Do these call centres have an order of priority depending on where the breakdown is over and above the person's gender?

itstoolateforthisbollox · 27/07/2017 10:26

It's ridiculous for someone to wait 9 hours for a service they are paying money for "just" because of someone's sex

It's ridiculous that anyone should wait that long and highly unusual, and solely down to not having enough crews on the road, not prioritising other groups.
