Friend's Dog Pissing on Lawn WWYD?

GemmaWella81 · 25/07/2017 16:22

My friend has a lovely dog, and she keeps bringing it round. The thing is... It keeps pissing on my lawn and leaving dead patches everywhere.

It irritates me as I have to dig the patch out and reseed. My friend doesn't see the issue (its just grass) and I'm kinda inclined to agree, but I can't help it annoying me.

I'm not going to fall out with or read her the riot act, but my friend keeps asking to bring the dog. She would leave the dog at home if I asked but would probably chuter to herself and reduce the number of times she comes to me (we're very even with visits, no issue there).

Any tips? Am I being unreasonable to let it annoy me? WWYD?

You can buy some clear gel to put out and dogs dont like the scent and it deters them from going to an area, might work?

BTW... I'm very house proud and a tidy neat garden is part of that, that's why it gets to me. It's not her dog per sa...

Either tell your friend not to bring the dog, or tell her she has to get it to wee on the pavement/road/park
Or get a bucket of water and tip it over the area where it wees immediately afterwards and it will stop your lawn from being scorched

Could you leave a watering can outside and ask her to water it as soon as the dog has finished - dilute it straight away and you should be okay.

Is it because you are all out in the garden so the dog happens to have a wee?

If not, tell her to take it for a walk!

I'm pretty sure there are some kind of 'rocks' that you can buy to encourage the dog to wee against it, then you could pop them in an area of the lawn that you don't mind getting marks on.

Don't you hate it when someone types faster than you!!!

Just keep the hose out and hose it off. Ask her to keep on lead to keep on top of it. It's a bit of a palaver though isn't it when you just want to chat?

I didn't realise a watering can may help, I'll have one on standby, thank you!

Nike...

Yeah I feel a dick being all prepared and it's a bit unwelcoming..

Saying that, I don't feel so accommodating when I'm digging turf out weeks later.

Thanks all for the suggestions

Just tell her not to bring the bloody dog!
The dog must piss all over her garden but she won't care because it's her dog.
If she was a real friend she would understand.

The grass will recover. I have two dogs, and ours is fine, just the odd patch here and there, but they never last, and I have never dug it all out to re-seed either.

Watering might help, but I don't bother.

Dog Rocks in the drinking water can help.

Takes a few weeks to work, but thereafter your (and your friend's own) lawns won't suffer patches.

Worked brilliantly for DB & SIL's dog.

Yes the grass does recover... After months though! That's if the new grass can grow through the dead thatch

Tell her not to bring the dog?
Go out for a walk with the dog somewhere?
Meet elsewhere?
I have a dog. No way would I expect to bring her to a friend's house and let her wee and poo all over the garden. Yuck!

Why should OP have a shit looking lawn because of a selfish friend?

Just tell her that's why you don't have a dog, because it's annoying when they piss on your lawn leaving dead patches.

Can she not leave it at home for an hour or so while she visits you ?
Or when your visiting her and you need the loo just pop into her garden and piss on her lawn.

pigsDOfly · 25/07/2017 16:46

No don't agree it's okay because the grass will grow back. It's her dog, you don't have a dog so why should you have to have your grass damaged. Tell her to leave her dog at home, or perhaps you should visit her more often.

I have patches on my grass, but that's something I'm prepared to accept because I have a dog. Don't see why you should have to accept it though.

YANBU OP! I have a dog and I don't let it piss on my parents' lawn when we take it round there - I assume they probably don't want dog piss on their garden like you.

Just wondering, why is she bringing the dog though? Do lots of people with dogs bring them to friends on visits or is it just me who finds it odd? It's not a small child that she has to bring elsewhere. Is she visiting at her only time in the day that the dog could be walked?

Report

JaneEyre70 · 25/07/2017 17:08

I take my dog everywhere with me as long as the person we are visiting is happy with it Shock. But I do chuck water straight over someone's garden if he wees and obviously pick any poop straight up. Just keep a full watering can nearby, that way you're both happy Grin.

Have to agree with Lostbeyondwords, I own two dogs, they NEVER come with me when I am visiting! Why is this even necessary?

Report

SleightOfHand · 25/07/2017 17:45

There'd be no garden pissing and shitting if people took their dogs for a couple of walks a day, that's part of having a dog, a lot of dog owners just don't bother though.

I love my garden and I would be so cross if a friend brought a dog around to pee all over it! I think you need to broach the subject and ask her if she can think of a solution- ie Don't bring the dog, put those dog rocks in its water....

TheNaze73 · 25/07/2017 18:08

You'll have fucking cats shitting & pissing on it all night anyway. I'd let it go
