To not clean the toilet if there's no toilet brush?

ncbacktoblack · 23/07/2017 14:59

DM is demanding I clean the 'filthy' (one stain) downstairs loo.

That would be fine except she's removed all the toilet brushes as she doesn't agree with them and replaced them with those duck loo replacement things. Which she won't buy as they are too expensive.

So basically she has told me to scrub someone's shit with some toilet roll! I used to be a cleaner and I've seen some weird stuff but never this. I've refused and been told I'm disgusting and lazy. AIBU?

I have a toilet brush but never really use it. Bleach and cleaning products get rid of just about everything. The thing is to toilet-train your household into not leaving shit in place for long enough for it to become stuck in place.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 23/07/2017 16:22

Have a couple inches of bleach water in the toilet brush holder. Clean skids flush brush in the loo replace brush in holder... it's not rank at all ? The brush is clean ?

Fluffyears · 23/07/2017 16:25

I have a loo brush with a long porcelain holder. Once a week it gets filled with boiling water and bleach and brush gets soaked to clean it properly.

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/07/2017 16:36

I too hate brushes but have them in the hope that they might encourage the young to clean up after themselves.
I also hate bleach .
I do the clean loo last and wash cloths on hot wash with rags weekly

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 16:41

chelle, sometimes poo adheres immediately ...

Northernparent68 · 23/07/2017 16:46

You can a device that cleans the toilet by squirting water, I think it's called the loo gun

AbsentmindedWoman · 23/07/2017 17:49

I prefer to wash all my towels on a hot wash, 90 degrees.

Would still be a cold day in hell before I add in a cloth that has been scrubbing shit off a toilet.

RortyCrankle · 23/07/2017 18:06

Tell your DM to jog on. Nothing would induce me to put my hands down the loo. Loo brushes are the only sensible method. Providing you bleach them and replace them regularly.

cricketballs · 23/07/2017 18:09

What do you all do that a bit of bleach doesn't keep your toilets clean?! Even with 3 males in the house we have never needed more than a regular (sometimes a top up is needed...) squirt under the rim with bleach

TuttiFruttiCutie · 23/07/2017 18:15

MarthasHabourYou do know flushable wipes are not flushable? They should not be branded as such! Shock Seriously though, stop flushing (Tampons too) as you will be heading for an expensive plumbing fix!

Boredwithmyname · 23/07/2017 18:19

IF you can train everybody to flush and check then a loo brush is rarely needed IME. I have one in reserve for welded-on shit.
Like Peekyboo I learned the hard way that tablets in the cistern can make the loo spring a leak.

DandelionAndBedrock · 23/07/2017 18:25

OP, do you mean this sort of toilet duck thing?

Fold a few sheets of loo roll over and you can make your own little pad to scrub with. We have the stick and I only buy the refills if we have guests - loo roll and standard toilet cleaner works fine. Or just loo roll, to be honest.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:32

cricket god Knows. I don't produce sticky poo but my male children and DH do...
In DH's case, it's beer. DS1 has always blocked the loo every time he goes. DS2 may be innocent. I don't inspect after every visit...

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:34

Plus, as I mentioned before, poo is not only issue ... also limescale...

KERALA1 · 23/07/2017 18:35

There is no way to clean a loo without a loo brush. Not having one is weird.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:38

DH has his own toilet.

He had attempted bizarre loo brushing with the filthiest loo brush known to mankind which he had left in the toilet. Even I threw it way.

Visitors coming today and he was in a panic this morning because there was no loo brush and he couldn't clean poo off the toilet...

No way was I sticking my limbs down there... I used a bout three bottles of bleach and then went and got another loo brush. It worked.

ASauvingnonADay · 23/07/2017 18:40

Just shove bleach down and flush later.. toilet brushes are SO gross

Betsy86 · 23/07/2017 18:45

I change my toilet brush regularly i only buy the cheap ones around 70p each in asda. Bleach them but i dont like the thought of them hanging around to long in abit of a germ freak.
Theres not a chance in hell i would wash a poo rag in with the normal towel etc wash Shock

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 23/07/2017 18:46

I am a cleaner and am amazed at how many of my clients do not have toilet brushes, I understand they get rank after a while but they are pretty cheap! Hate when they don't have as its a rubber glove sponge job. Could bring a brush but then wouldn't use at another house I don't even do that with clothes and sponges!

starzig · 23/07/2017 18:48

I always wash the loo by hand. Still alive

donajimena · 23/07/2017 18:50

I'm a cleaner and I manage to clean the rankest of toilets without a brush. As I work in vacant properties in which there is rarely a loo brush I certainly don't want to carry one around with me from house to house!
I use bleach which contrary to the line trotted out that it just turns stains white it actually dissolves shit.
For encrusted urine I might have to employ a brillo pad (binned each time)
If there is limescale in the loo I use one of those fizz tabs which dissolves it overnight.
I have trained my children to bleach the lav if they mark it. I'm proud of my clean toilets even if the rest of my house could do with a bloody good clean!

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:50

I'm confused as to why loo brushes are unhygienic... are people licking them??

I have loo brushes (filthy ones and a sticky pooed DH as above) Also still alive.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:52

dona , how do the fizz tabs get rid of limescale from the side walls o the toilet?

Nothing works on mine...

Just to say, one can use a bleach and loo brush combo!!

Singingtherapy · 23/07/2017 18:53

I'm in the anti toilet brush camp. I'm probably in a very small minority but I really don't understand why people can't get a piece of toilet paper and wipe their own stains off the toilet bowl as soon as they've got up from the loo. It's your own poo fgs. You wipe it off your bum so why not the toilet?

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2017 18:58

Because some of the stains are beneath the water line??
