i know its a green website and that, to keep stuff out of landfill, but i find the wanted posts are getting out of hand. somebody has just posted - wanted - bugaboo cameleon buggy!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
lilybubble · 26/03/2007 17:55

lol at Bugaboo, hilarious!!

The idea of people making money is irritating, but if they can be bothered with the whole process, and I can't be bothered to put it on ebay, then I think fair play really....... it's a tough one.

staceym11 · 26/03/2007 18:03

dh did get a playstation 1 off freecycle and sold our old unworking one on ebay.. i wasnt sure but it sold and got our kids a nice day out at the farm...not sure why someone would want a not working one tho!

TrinityRhino · 26/03/2007 18:17

thanks

cece · 26/03/2007 19:08

LOL someone has just posted a WANTED for a roof rack!

nikkie · 26/03/2007 19:21

Ours are all
OFFERED a cardbord box
WANTED a brand new flat screen TV

Mamazon · 26/03/2007 19:22

thankfully our moderator is really good and will not let anything go through as wanted unless they have first offered and even then only if it is within reasonable expectation that someone would have one unwanted and just laying about waiting for landfill.

a new car, PS2 etc just wouldn't get through

misdee · 26/03/2007 20:44

i have just offered a stroller on freecycle, its well used, but still got plenty of life in it, i got 'has it got a raincover' well no it hasnt 'oh i dont want it then'

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 20:47

I got sick of waiting around for people to pick up the gear and they no show.

Everything goes to charity these days.

Most will collect larger items of furniture.

staceym11 · 26/03/2007 20:56

think iv been lucky to not have any no shows! we've not shown up once, but that was coz our car broke down so we let them know and went the next day!

then they will sell it on ebay.

talking about beggars being choosers.

collision · 28/03/2007 16:23

Dont you think it is a hideous website and difficult to get on?

I joined and unjoined in minutes because I couldnt get my Yahoo ID and I got about 47 emails through on the computer!!

staceym11 · 28/03/2007 16:29

the websites a pain, but the emails are ok as long as you check regularily. dont really use the website at all

tinkerbellhadpiles · 28/03/2007 16:31

I get irritated when I find that people picking up stuff aren't local and just lurk in the hope of getting good stuff free and yes I've seen those wanted ads as well 'wanted new playstation and games' was one on ours recently.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 28/03/2007 17:19

Hey badhair, I'm on two freecycle areas and guess what - same wanted ad on both!!!!

willywonkasEgghunt · 28/03/2007 17:27

We've been really lucky with freecycle stuff over the while and don't seem to get any p*-taking wanted messages posted (though I've pmsl at the ones below). Have also not had any no-shows so far and offloaded tonnes of stuff that would have had to go to landfill otherwise, so our experience so far has been really positive.

J20BABYLOVESCHOCOLATEEGGS · 28/03/2007 20:56

i did a wanted baby items, and somebody emailed me to say they wanted money for something, didn't think you where allowed to ask for money?

rantinghousewife · 28/03/2007 20:56

Very funny, yeah on our local one someone posted that they wanted a NEW in capital letters computer!! As gran would say 'Whatta fackin liberty'.

bananabump · 28/03/2007 21:32

Our one is pretty bad for wanted ads...ones I've seen include:

Wanted: small car
Wanted: caravan/ caravanette
Wanted: GHD straighteners
Wanted: Xbox

Not exactly essentials they need, or things you'd have lying around "spare"

All I've ever asked for was baby items, and have been offered allsorts of lovely things above and beyond what I was expecting, that -yes- require a wash, and have normally been stored in people's attics, so what? it doesn't come any cheaper than free!

We've offered a few things over the last year or two, one being a red two seater chesterfield metal action sofabed. A mean old couple turned up and told me off for describing it as a two seater. "That's far too big for our conservatory!!!!" he said incredulously, as if I'd been there and should know better. Then asked if we were getting rid of our 24", obviously new tv. Yeah right, Grandad!

Bottom line is, it's a good idea but you'll always get idiots and professional ebay scammers who have to ruin it for the rest of us.

Best way is, if you're getting rid of something: assess the emails you receive, (even though it's tempting to pick the first one just to ensure you get rid of the item) if they sound fussy, ungrateful, or pushy, then wait a few hours before responding to see who else answers your advert. There are those of us out there who are more than grateful for the things you're giving away, however dusty!

JanH · 28/03/2007 21:39

I have got rid of some excellent cardboard boxes (lots of people wanted those!), 2 underbed storage drawers, a platform bed, a bookcase and a chest of drawers (the bookcase would have gone several times over, v popular)

Have acquired a 2-seater sofa (covers worn out but OK with throws and v comfy) and an old TV (which we couldn't tune in )

Just missed a Sony Vaio (sp?) laptop

And asked for a men's racing bike and got someone offering to sell one

It's all a bit random really

tinkerbellhadpiles · 28/03/2007 21:54

OFFERED: Small child (good with chimneys)

staceym11 · 29/03/2007 13:16

just had:

wanted: washing machine, tumble dryer, garden shed, children's outside play equipment

maybe asking too much no?!?!

LittleSarah · 29/03/2007 13:28

Geez, some of those ads are just taking the p*! Really makes a mockery of the whole thing.

I have had good experiences in the past though. I gave away a buggy, an old computer and a microwave, put them all up in the morning and they had all been collected in the evening!
