*lighthearted* tinkly little laugh

I actually heard one yesterday.
Our dog (7 month old Sprocker) is very very bouncy and energetic. Whilst out walking, we let the dog off the lead, as always (good recall), and suddenly, over the hill came a young-ish couple and a very old labrador. Our dog bounded over to them and started jumping about, and then I heard it - the tinkly little laugh - "Oh, he's lively isn't he?"
Which instantly I knew meant -"get him OFF!"
We called our dog immediately and he came.
AIBU to think that this was a true interpretation of the TLL??

If their dog was on a lead you were very unreasonable to ALLOW your dog to approach like that.

Witchend · 22/07/2017 13:54

No I think the correct interpretation is "if your dog behaves like that you shouldn't be letting him out f your sight."

MaisieDotes · 22/07/2017 13:55

Nervous laugh probably.

PearlyPinkNails · 22/07/2017 13:56

Not what I would class as a tinkly little laugh, not the right situation

Squirmy65ghyg · 22/07/2017 13:58

You sound like the dog walker I had the misfortune to meet last week - when her dog charged at my 4 year old she had the cheek to say "he won't hurt him." Clearly illiterate given that there were 3 signs saying keep your dog on a lead due to nesting birds. Have some manners ffs.

thereallochnessmonster · 22/07/2017 13:58

You shouldn't have let your dog approach them and their dog in the first place.

CrochetBelle · 22/07/2017 13:59

You call the dog BEFORE it jumps all over another, not after!!

Willow2017 · 22/07/2017 14:22

Would have got more than a 'tinkly' laugh off me if your dog had bounded up to me and my kids! (and so would the sodding dog if it had jumped up on one of my kids)

Its cos of dogs like that that my ds1 was terrifed of dogs for years.

Huffletuff · 22/07/2017 14:26

You don't have a "Sprocker", you have a crossbreed.

Perhaps when they said "he's lively isn't he?" that he was lively?

Also if you can't control your crossbreed, why was it off a lead?

Huffletuff · 22/07/2017 14:26

They meant that *

MagicMoneyTree · 22/07/2017 14:28

Yeah that's not a tinkly little laugh op that's a nervous GET YOUR FUCKING DOG UNDER CONTROL laugh because they were too polite to have a go at you. Take some responsibility ffs and don't let this happen again.

MeanAger · 22/07/2017 14:32

So you let your pup which you know is bouncy and energetic bound up to strangers and strange dogs? Why? Don't you care about your dog?

DonaldStott · 22/07/2017 14:34

Don't think this is the response OP was hoping for Grin

ilovesooty · 22/07/2017 14:36

I expect the OP thought that putting lighthearted in would mean people wouldn't suggest she should control her dog more effectively.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 22/07/2017 14:45

If she has such good recall, why didn't you call her the moment you saw other people?

Whatsername17 · 22/07/2017 14:51

It was probably nervous shock. I'm guilty of this when other people's dogs come and say hello. I also worry that the owner is a bit 'ok crazy lady, get off my dog' when I respond by stroking the crap out of the dog. I bloody love dogs but dh hates them so I can't have one of my own. I never mind when a dog comes and introduces itself.

AtrociousCircumstance · 22/07/2017 14:55

Yeah I hate this from dog owners. The other day a (very sweet looking) dog rushed up and started snuffling around my DS's buggy. My DS is allergic to dogs so I pulled the buggy away rapidly, and explained why. They shot me dirty looks and huffed off in a strop, as if I had done something wrong in 'rejecting' their lovely dog...

Irritating and irresponsible.

MagicMoneyTree · 22/07/2017 14:56

Other people's out of control dogs isn't lighthearted though is it?

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 14:57

i should have apologized today to the dog on a lead that mine was very interested in, i realised afterwards.
We had a civilised chat. Good walks were wished.

so much angst

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 14:58

but the tinkling little laugh, what is wrong that that. Could have been a loud yell

BenLui · 22/07/2017 15:00

Your interpretation probably is correct.

Not sure why the need for a (slightly snidely) thread about very polite woman in the fact of your error of judgement.

And putting "light hearted" doesn't mean people won't call you on your behaviour.

MaidenMotherCrone · 22/07/2017 15:00

Op please don't let your dog going bounding up to people or other dogs who are on leads ( and under control). It could be my dog yours 'wants to say hi to' it wouldn't end well for yours.

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 15:00

Which instantly I knew meant -"get him OFF!"

i dont know if that was the case,

RockyBird · 22/07/2017 15:04

Some dog owners are more PFB about their pooches than the most PFB parents Grin

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 15:05

very true rockybird Grin
