mind he was a real addict, even having a large bottle by the bed in case he got thirsty in the night.

Oh my god. Soda in the night, to quench actual night thirst? That's proper addiction.

lucydogz · 20/07/2017 09:14

try lime and soda with lots of ice. My go-to drink on a hot day. Mind you, I think coke is disgusting - so sweet you can practically hear the enamel being stripped off your teeth. Fresh lime and tonic is lovely as well, but I think is probably really full of sugar.

MargaretTwatyer · 20/07/2017 09:22

Use a mirror, and wear a Halston gown.

Or if you prefer speed the back of a bog and a Primarni tracksuit.

MamehaSan · 20/07/2017 09:22

Is coke (the drink variety!) really a thing then? I've never really drunk it except with vodka during my university days, ahem so the idea of planning a withdrawal from a soft drink is just a little bit bizarre to me!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/07/2017 09:25

..frightening to think what is in it to make it so addictive
Caffeine and sugar.

Weemargaret · 20/07/2017 09:26

I am a Diet Coke addict. I drink two cans a day but could easily drink a lot more. I have tried to give up so many times and last a while but one small drink of it will put me back to square one. I just don't see how any other drink can quench your thirst so well. I do wonder what is in it to make it so addictive, it can't be caffeine alone because I don't like tea or coffee and never get cravings for them.

TipTopTipTopClop · 20/07/2017 09:29

I'm a super-hardened diet coke addict and wouldn't even want to say how much I drink in a day.

I make my own, mind you, with my SodaStream and post-mix syrup from Amazon. If you were to look at my recycling you'd have no idea.

Aridane · 20/07/2017 09:31

I love diet coke and can get slammed for drinking it - oh, it's so bad for you - and coming from people who drink, smoke etc. As if I were mainlining heroin.

I don't drink alcohol, tea / coffee, smoke etc - so it's my small vice.

Dentist doesn't like it - even though sugar free, it can erode enamel with the acid (or something).

However, when I don't drink it - eg on hols - I do get the caffeine withdrawal headache.

Good luck to all the coke heads giving up!

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 20/07/2017 09:32

I gave up Diet Coke in October and never looked back. I occasionally (maybe once a month) will order a glass when out and about. I don't like the taste anymore but I always forget. I don't feel any better for it, sadly, but I'm not getting palpitations. I was drinking quite a vast amount though.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/07/2017 09:32

You can get hooked on the sweet taste from artificial sweeteners weemargaret and crave the taste of those in combination with a caffeine hit.

I must admit I opened this thread expecting something a bit more hard-core. Blush

HollyHollyHo · 20/07/2017 09:36

I drink 4 cans of full sugar red coke every day.

There's nothing like a cold can with the water beading down the side when you're thirsty Blush

Just checked the kitchen, I have 7 cans left. May give it a go when they are gone

HollyHollyHo · 20/07/2017 09:38

Oh and mirror is very old hat these days. Rise in the popularity of granite kitchens should tell you something Wink

Lalalax3 · 20/07/2017 09:39

Ok I'm so glad I'm not the only person that thought you were inviting me to chop out a line...

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/07/2017 09:46

He hee Mrsg Grin I'm getting my coat on and looking for the exit. [disappointed]

IWantABlueBanana · 20/07/2017 09:48

3 years i've been off it after spending at least 10 years of drinking up to 2l a day Blush

It was brutal and as it was my main calorie intake i lost a lot of weight i couldnt really afford to lose.

Mushybanna23 · 20/07/2017 10:01

I've got to work and ordered toast and no coke but I can see them in the drinks fridge

I was expecting this thread to be much more exciting tbh.
I managed to cut out regular coke last year, but drink way to much Diet Coke, been trying to drink more sparkling water instead.

MaidOfStars · 20/07/2017 11:44

I was definitely enticed to this thread for a rather different premise.

I don't really drink coke or other pops, save the occasional orange Fanta when I'm hungover. I drink fizzy water though. A good squeeze of fresh lime and that might quench the cravings?

MaidOfStars · 20/07/2017 11:45

Oh, I drink a fuckton of tonic water not usually on its own

HelloSunshine11 · 20/07/2017 11:46

I need to get in on this. Have been on 2-3 cans a day for years and it's BAD.

I've got about half a box of 30 left at home. Once they're gone, I'll join you. There, I've said it!

RiseToday · 20/07/2017 12:41

I can't even have it in the house as just end up guzzling several cans per day, in lieu of any other drink Confused

I've tried and failed miserable to give up on so many occasions. I have cut down considerably and have subbed Coke for Sparkling water with a bit of squash. For me, the addictiveness is the fizz - I love it.

I've been thinking about popping to the shop to buy can all day. So far I've managed to resist

Teabagtits · 20/07/2017 12:51

Nope. It's my one vice in life. One can a day as a treat. Not giving that up.

Mushybanna23 · 20/07/2017 15:31

I caved because of the head ache

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/07/2017 19:24

You could try painkillers with added caffeine for the headache another time? It's the caffeine withdrawal causing it.
Perhaps try to wean yourself off drinking coke slowly? Try cutting down gradually with an aim to having one or two a day as a treat. Everything in moderation rather than never again?
Good luck anyway.

Dogsmom · 20/07/2017 19:34

Dh & I drink 8 cans of Pepsi Max cherry a day, between us not each and last week I worked out that it's £912.50 a year Shock

We really do need to make the effort to pack it in and swap to squash, they're £2 for 2 big bottles of double strength and would cut the bill down to about £50 a year.
