Would you accept this council house?

I'm currently renting a house for £360 per month from a housing association.
Not in the best location.
I bidded on a house (through council ) it's only 7 years old, much better location and massive garden ,£380 per month.
I went for viewing today and I was the only person who turned up.
Anyway if I get offered it,do I take it?
It's going to mean new carpets, decorating.
Luckily the council have just painted all ceilings and all walls white but I would want to put my own stamp on things.
What would you do?
It's great rent price and still leaves us with a lot of spare money in the month for other things.
Is it worth moving for better location ?
Its bigger too.
I'm in two minds

They do,the underneath is from the hair integration system for people who have missing sections of hair

This poor Op has anxiety, and has had her hair done to feel better!! Good on you! Moving house is very scary, no need to be unkind to her. Ash: I hope you are really happy in your new home 🏡

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/07/2017 19:08

I had every sympathy for you until I read your other thread where you just spent £410 on hair extensions. Well that's half of what you need to buy the carpets isn't it?

I seriously wish I was in your financial situation.

SerfTerf · 21/07/2017 19:18

We know @Bungleboggs and it's that special, ultra rare, type of anxiety
which makes it difficult to phone utility companies for five minutes but easy to sit in a hair salon for four or five hours.

Tragic case Sad

In fairness, I used to get anxious making phone calls but wouldn't have had a problem in a hairdresser. I was always afraid of not being understood over the phone or making a fool of myself, loosing my words and being thought of as stupid etc.

That said, I also think you need to appreciate for outsiders, spending so much money and complaining about not being able to afford carpets also sounds disingenuous.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 19:30

Maybe you need to look up exactly what anxiety is before you go shooting your mouth off..
I actually spent 1 year being unable to leave my home before I got CBT.
You haven't got a clue what your talking about ..look up generalised anxiety disorder!

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 19:31

Mummy- I never said I couldn't afford carpets
I said after spending that much on my hair adding a tip on top seemed like a waste when I had carpets to buy

It was mentioning the council house in the opener of the hairdresser tipping thread that really tore it for me, to be fair.

AuntMarch · 21/07/2017 19:34

Given that I pay £100 more than your current rent for living in a room and haven't afforded a hair cut since Easter, I find it insane you would even question it

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 19:35

Might be worth a read !!

Would you accept this council house?
OP posts:
Mummyoflittledragon · 21/07/2017 19:35

You did say you couldn't afford to do it all at once and would have to do room by room and look at buying remnants on this thread, didn't you? I haven't read the other thread. Anyway, it really doesn't matter.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 19:36

Not my fault that irritated you
Wasn't intentional
Can't please everyone

I won't be decorating each room no.
Il be carpeting tho with reminents which is still expensive enough.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/07/2017 19:38

Just seen your nails. You've got very different priorities from me. I'd be ditching the nails and decorating my home.

AtHomeDadGlos · 21/07/2017 19:40

Carpet for your whole (council) house? £700
Hair extensions? £410
Tip? £0
Having to defend yourself by claiming anxiety? Priceless.

pinklemonade84 · 21/07/2017 19:45

Some people really are nasty spiteful specimens!

Ashkey good on you for going for the house. I totally sympathise on the anxiety issue. And for some of these posters to mock you because of that is absolutely disgusting.

You'll make this work. Make lots of lists and work through them a bit at a time. I find that's what helps me xx

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 19:47

Thankyou pink I'm going to re direct my mail for a few months then work through them all going for most important first.
I wish things like that didn't cause me so much worry but you make the best of it

JumpingJellybeanz · 21/07/2017 20:03

Some ignorant posts on here about anxiety. I don't make phone calls at all because of mine. I'm so bad I have a support worker from social services who comes round every friday to make calls and book appointments for me and help with other admin tasks. Coincidentally today she booked me in to get my hair cut and coloured because I can't do it myself, although I have no problem going to it.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 20:24

Phone calls fill me with so much dread.
I'm always tounge tied

OP posts:
Bungleboggs · 21/07/2017 20:44

Do you have someone to help
you through the Phonecalls!? You could just go through the initial security questions then pass the phone onto a friend to do it for you. Anxiety is terrible but you can do this !

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 20:59

I don't know,I could ask partner but he works away a bit

OP posts:
Bungleboggs · 21/07/2017 21:07

You really can do this, I work in social housing and also have anxiety !! So I know it from both sides!! The sign up
Is a very straight forward process though

StarUtopia · 21/07/2017 21:09

Having to fork out on carpets etc? Are you shitting me?

If you own your own home, and bought a do-er upper, you'd have to pay out for new carpets. FFS.

Some people want everything for nothing.
