To ask if this is normal for nursery school children??

I applied for my son to join the nursery at the school my children go, it's the first time any of mine are going nursery and it says he is expected to wear school uniform, is this normal? All seems abit formal to me?? Don't know whether to look for a different nursery

Normal for ours. It's not compulsory but they do ask that the kids wear their polo shirts and/or sweaters for trips, just like they will be expected to in school. It's much safer that way as they are easily identifiable.
A lot of nurseries attached to schools have a uniform.

Normal round here too. DD goes to a private nursery and the pre-school room has an optional uniform. DD actually loves wearing it and it's helped her to settle in (had some problems) as she felt that she was just like the other children wearing the uniform.

I hate this idea that small children should be 'getting used to' things for school. Our nursery gives the preschoolers homework to get then used to it for school. Why don't we just dress them in uniform from birth so they are thoroughly prepared for the monotony of life as soon as possible? Poor babies.

I don't see the uniform in an early year setting in quite the same way as uniform in school.
In early years it is about comfortable practical clothing that you expect to get dirty and stained, it is a way for parents to have a set of cheap clothing that fulfils all of the above without having to think too much themselves about what is the right thing to wear. Quite a few parents of first children don't know what to expect of early years so would put their child in pretty little light coloured dresses or expensive brand t-shirts.

I'd say its the norm for most school nurseries but usually just a t shirt and not exactly strictly enforced. apart from some private schools where its full on boaters and ties from age 3
I never used a school nursery for reasons like Tronald Dump - I wanted a less formal, more homey kind of setting, smaller numbers of kids - I don't see why they can't get used to school when they actually start. Ditto ties for school uniform, homework etc.

My DS is just has been in a nursery attached to primary school this year.
He had to wear the full school uniform, trousers/shorts, polo shirt, tie and school jumper. To be honest it was much easier than the previous year of drama over what clothes he wanted to wear in the mornings.
