One chin hair

MrsBakedBean · 19/07/2017 09:07

Having being inspired by all the answers to the nasal hair thread (I don't suffer from those) I'd be so happy if you can give me advice.

I have one solitary hair growing out of my chin. I pluck the other bastard ones that appear at the side of my mouth so I know how coarse they can grow back in at.

How would you deal with this one?

Are they really called Hag Hairs? I call mine the'Witchety Hair', but I thought that was a term of my own invention. Maybe I heard it somewhere.

stayathomegardener · 20/07/2017 08:31

I discovered my one very long chin hair in the car on the way into a meeting.
I tried to pull it out with my fingernails but the bastard thing spiralled into a ringlet. You know how you curl ribbons on parcels with the blunt edge of scissors. Just like that.
I had to leave it like that till I got home to my tweezers.
I now have excellent tweezers in the car, my handbag and my "special " kitchen drawer.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/07/2017 08:58

I have very fair hair but definitely more than I want on lip and chin...
I do get threaded.
My eyes do fill with tears at the lip bit but it is nice when it's done...
Wink

Bandito that made me Grin

I'd like to know WHY if you accidentally pluck and eyebrow hair it never grows back ... but that theory doesn't work with (Bastard) chin hairs? Mother Nature is a cruel, cruel bitch maiden!

user1480267413 · 20/07/2017 09:54

Hi, I seem to have missed the posts on nasal hair. can someone direct me, please?

ChuffMuffin · 20/07/2017 10:43

Electrolysis sounds another possibility but I thought it couldn't be guaranteed?

Electrolysis is the only hair removal method proven to be permanent (if you have enough sessions that is, it's not exactly an 8 week course or anything) and it works on all colours of hair, and can be used on all skin colours and types.

It can be uncomfortable, especially top lip (the closer to your nose, the more it sucks), but it's much more bearable if you use EMLA cream before hand. Depends how hairy you are. Also it's still worth having it done!

Solo · 20/07/2017 10:47

Since these solitary chin hairs go from nothing to an inch over night and it's a common occurence, does anyone know why? Because this is how mine behaves too!
Coincidentally I bought a Braun facial epilator last week as it was on offer but, having checked the reviews I'm returning it today.

I have occasionally used an epistick which is okay but, not great on my tache as I find I can't get the motion right all the time and I always seem to miss some hairs. I pluck the chin hair with tweezers as soon as I can feel it and it's always really long under the skin.

OP that link says nothing about using it on your face so I wouldn't.

MrsBakedBean · 20/07/2017 11:00

@Solo it does say "Treatment time for face: 1.5 min" at the bottom of the page however you're right it doesn't mention it before.

Would love to hear if anyone has used this Lumea www.boots.com/electrical/female-hair-removal-tools/ipl-hair-removal/philips-lumea-essential-bri861-00-ipl-hair-removal-system-for-body-10217478

What are prices like for electrolysis? Can you tweeze or iMmac before going?

CoolCarrie · 20/07/2017 11:16

I have an older version of this, and have been using it on my legs and underarms with great success, however I haven't used it on my face as yet. The light is very bright so I look away before the flash. I use an epiltor on the hair on my chin, then follow up with the lumea., and it works for me . I could have worked as a bearded lady in a carnival in my late teens, & earlier twenties until I had electrolysis, but the buggers returned, not nearly as bad though, due to menopause I think.
Thank fuck I am not the only one with this as I honestly thought I was on my own!

skyzumarubble · 20/07/2017 11:20

I have two. I pluck the fuckers as soon as they're long enough to get hold off.

CoolCarrie · 20/07/2017 11:24

DONT DO ANYTHING to the hairs before electrolysis as the hair needs to be pluckable as it were. The beautation will clean the area before treatment, then she will zap it with the tweezers like thing, then she will pull the hair out with another pair of tweezers. Your face will be very red afterwards and it is painful, but it really does work... at least I did wonders for me, until the buggers came back, but now there are a hand ful, not a Brian Blessed ! I had to go twice a week for 30 mins at a time!!! Honestly go for it, especially if you only have a few.

CoolCarrie · 20/07/2017 11:31

And prices probably depend on where you live, it is charged by the minute. Check if they are registered before you go.
Hope this helps

Rainatnight · 20/07/2017 11:34

Fabulously I wonder the exact same thing! I have sparse eyebrows due to youthful over plucking. But will the solitary wiry black chin hair bugger off in response to plucking? Will it heck.

Not fair.

PittTheMiddleOneNoOneMentions · 20/07/2017 11:58

Check if they are registered before you go.

For people who are interested in electrolysis you can find registered members here:

I came across this thread while idly rubbing my single chin hair wondering if it was long enough to pluck yet... Grin

I have snorted more than a few times!!

I pluck my fucker. The fucker.

My one chin hair is different to the random sometimes 9 inch jobbies that spring up overnight in very prominent places... gah! the 40's are fun!

ChuffMuffin · 20/07/2017 14:35

What are prices like for electrolysis? Can you tweeze or iMmac before going?

Depends on how many hairs you have. The only place that does it locally here charges £15 for 10 mins, £22 for 20 mins and £29 for 30 mins. Depending on the amount of hair you have, the treatment schedule is usually weekly for the first few months, so it's an investment.. but once the growth starts slowing it'll become bi weekly, eventually dropping off to once a month, then whenever it's needed.

Don't pluck, or wax the hair. You can use immac or shave 2-3 days before the appointment, but do not do anything that removes the hair from the follicle.

ChuffMuffin · 20/07/2017 14:36

Oh and waxing/tweezing actually increases the blood supply & nutrients to your hair follicle, making the hair stronger. Crafty little bastards Shock.

shakingmyhead1 · 20/07/2017 15:51

ahhhh i have found my people Grin
i too have the hairy genetics, im sure when im in my 80's ( and damn it we live even longer) ill have a full on man beard!
ive tried waxing, trimming with a special lady beard trimmer, creams and even a sensica that my mum got me as a subtle hint that im hairy i suspect ( btw that thing almost made me wet myself its scary as, thought i had blown it up when it went pop) now i like some of the others shave it off, with a man shaver and shaving foam! i often curse my family tree for marrying so many hairy cultures in the long forgotten past

5foot5 · 20/07/2017 16:40

Verbena I have one of those and seriously find it no use whatsoever.

I do have a battery operated epilator - not bad but painful

I mostly pluck but the numbers increase all the time and the little buggers come back quite quickly.

Never heard of the Nair cream though....

Yesyesyesyeswhatever · 20/07/2017 16:56

I'm half Mediterranean too, so am hairy everywhere. Including chin. It started with one and now there are around 10 hairs there. It's a pain. I pluck my face hairs and shave the rest. I try use the lumea every once in a while, but it's so time consuming for large areas, like my thighs. I wish I had money for lasering. Luckily DP hasn't got great eyesight and doesn't like to wear glasses, so I am instantly airbrushed.he has a few stray hairs too (on his nose), but he just shaves them together with his beard.

Solo · 20/07/2017 23:56

See, I don't know how I have so much hair in places us girls don't want or need it. My Mum has never plucked her brows because they don't need to be! She's never had an errant chin hair or hairy legs. My Dad could never grow a full beard because it just wouldn't grow in most parts of his chin and I have more chest hair than he ever did (no, I don't have those any more but, used to get those fine dark hairs around the areola). 10yo Dd already has slightly dark hairy legs but she looks like she's got my Mums type of eyebrows whereas at her age, I had a dark monobrow iirc.
