GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

My friends has a HA house, and this years has had new double glazing and guttering - all paid for. And is now just had a lovely new kitchen fitted.

She chose the units and tiles. Has had a team of fitters, and is now waiting for the inspection team to check all the finishing touches.

AND then she's going to buy the house - but only once all the work has been completed for free.

Sorry but this makes my blood boil. We have had to save up for years to afford a new kitchen and certainly won't end up with a nice a one as she has got that my taxes have paid for.

(yes I know - it's jealousy and sour grapes)

Anyway - rant over.

Just to be clear nightowl i don't look down on council/HA tenants. 1/2 our street is made up of these properties and the majority of the tenants are decent people not lazy or criminal but that doesn't mean that there aren't some people who do take the piss or that we shouldn't be annoyed when they do.

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:43

here jacobsdad, have my home with my new kitchen, 3 bedroom bungalow, but you have to take my life with it. do you really want my life? i havent found anyone who wants to swap with me yet.

nightowl · 26/03/2007 16:44

take your blinkers off.

contentiouscat · 26/03/2007 16:45

Quote...nightowl

doggiesayswoof · 26/03/2007 16:46

Good point misdee - that's what I was trying to say further down.

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:47

i planned my 3rd child whilst i was benefits, still am. and we mvoed house when i was pregnant. wasnt anything about finicial gainm tbh, but more personal reasons/

Jacobsdad · 26/03/2007 16:48

Your missing the point - all im saying is that I cant afford to have another child! Its not about where you live or how much you earn. I talking about the fact that there would be alot more financial help for others than me if we had another child.

doggiesayswoof · 26/03/2007 16:49

'The proof comes from friends and friends of friends who have no hang ups about getting pregnant as they know they will get a lot more financial help!'

I just feel very sad for you if you look at your life this way, Jacobsdad. Why not be happy for them, particularly if they are your friends?

nightowl · 26/03/2007 16:50

yes dustystar you should get pissed off with people like that.
but we're not all like that.

its the stereotype.

zippitippitoes · 26/03/2007 16:50

I'm a bit lost on this argument

if people with less money are better off because they get subsidised because they have less money but extra children

then why don't you get a less well paid job and apply for benefits and have extra children

if it is so good?

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:51

do you honestly belive there are people popping out kdis with ££ signs in front of their eyes. benefits are shit.

nightowl · 26/03/2007 16:51

my post wasn't aimed at you c cat, im just getting really upset by this thread now.

Jacobsdad · 26/03/2007 16:52

Did I ever say I wasnt happy for them - of course I am! All im saying is theres no help for me from the council when it comes to having more children!

zippitippitoes · 26/03/2007 16:52

and why would there be?

on the other hand there is because you do get schools nurseries health care etc

doggiesayswoof · 26/03/2007 16:53

But you're not explaining why you should get more help from the council, Jacobsdad

doggiesayswoof · 26/03/2007 16:53

X-posts zippi

dustystar · 26/03/2007 16:53

No absolutely nightowl - in fact they are the only ones I have known to take the piss that badly. My SIL is on the housing list but never seems to get a property. She is currently in a lovely private house but I know she would like the security of having a council tenancy. I have always really admired her for the way she manages to rarely be in debt and actually save money for xmas and birthdays from the little she gets each week.

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:54

jacobsdad you can afford a place to live obviously.

nightowl · 26/03/2007 16:54

i had one more child. on my own. i dont claim benefit, i pay full rent. HOW exactly are the council helping me?

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:56

exactly nightowl. if i have another one, i could apply for an extension on this place as we cant move out due to the situation as it currently is. mind you the chance to fall pregnant would be miraclous right now.

2shoesonanegghunt · 26/03/2007 16:57

wow benefits are brilliant. jobseekers is something like £56 a week for a dad of 2
brilliant we will be out every night

Jacobsdad · 26/03/2007 16:57

What im trying to say is that how is it fair that I get no financial help with having children when I can hardly afford to have my own home with interest rates rising all the time. All I want is a bit of financial help so life isnt so tight so we can think about having another child. Surely its a sad situation when anyone - regardless of their financial state cant afford to have a family.

misdee · 26/03/2007 16:58

give up your job, lose your house and get a council house. there ya go, problem sorted. eassy peasy.

2shoesonanegghunt · 26/03/2007 16:59

Jacobsdad don't child credits and working tax credits help?

nightowl · 26/03/2007 17:00

i just love threads like this. really. benefit doesnt = council house. council house doesnt = benefit. even if it does, there are plenty of reason why people claim it as we all know.

and all because one person was jealous of a kitchen.
