GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

My friends has a HA house, and this years has had new double glazing and guttering - all paid for. And is now just had a lovely new kitchen fitted.

She chose the units and tiles. Has had a team of fitters, and is now waiting for the inspection team to check all the finishing touches.

AND then she's going to buy the house - but only once all the work has been completed for free.

Sorry but this makes my blood boil. We have had to save up for years to afford a new kitchen and certainly won't end up with a nice a one as she has got that my taxes have paid for.

(yes I know - it's jealousy and sour grapes)

Anyway - rant over.

nightowl · 25/03/2007 22:10

why are you trying to make your house nice sparkly? out of order imo

SparklyGothKat · 25/03/2007 22:10

ppssttt.... my 'nice' furniture came from Argos and Ikea... hehe

zippitippitoes · 25/03/2007 22:11

what about those big tvs people in council houses have with a cash box on the back that lets you pay a rip off price for your stuff and when you can't put moneyin it everything goes off

ScoobyDooooo · 25/03/2007 22:11

Oh ikea i luuuurve it

misdee · 25/03/2007 22:11

my bungalow is lovely (aside from shitty kicthen) but i have done most of thw work myself.

i have to call the council in to deal with the damp though.

Caligula · 25/03/2007 22:11

LOL MP.

Lucky bastards.

nightowl · 25/03/2007 22:12

misdee · 25/03/2007 22:14

adnw e have a 'free' car

colditz · 25/03/2007 22:14

The rent is being paid on her house, therefore it is up to her landlords to maintain it. Unless she is on benefits full time, your taxes have nothing to do with it - her rent pays them.

And despite what you or her may think, the chances of her ever buying that house are low - the housing associations wrote their tenancy forms to disclude 'Right to buy'

But I am sure you would, in this current climate of booming property prices, rather live in a rented house than own yours? Well go ahead, you are welcome to.

nightowl · 25/03/2007 22:15

lets accept it, us HA and council tenants cant win either way.

live on benefits: you're a scrounger.

work: you shouldnt be entitled to a council/HA property.

Dont decorate your house: you're a lazy dirty bugger.

Try to make your house nice: well if you have so much money you should buy a house.

simple no?

Pann · 25/03/2007 22:15

MP and Caligula - beat me to it, and lol...

atleast the OP is recognising in part her unreasonableness at asking 'am I being unreasonable?'....and VVVQV is sooo precise, brief, and correct...is this woman EVER wrong????

misdee · 25/03/2007 22:17

NO of course we cant win. i was told i was lucky to live in a bungalow. grrrr.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/03/2007 22:17

PMSL!!!!

DP's parents have been in their council house for 28 years before the original kitchen was replaced 18 months ago. They got to pick cupboards, tiles and worktops.

Bloody right too. They NEVER ring up and bemoan that something is wrong - they have always fixed it themselves - most private tenants wouldnt.

They pay a nominal rent from their state pension, and they pay council tax. They have been regular, proper paying council tenants for 50+ years. Paid their taxes and bills and been no trouble.

They are treated far less fairly than if they had been private tenants.

SparklyGothKat · 25/03/2007 22:18

Oh yes, just remembered that DD1's wardrobe, bedside unit and chest of drawers cost me a grand total of £45 from a cataloge clearance website, what a bargain!!

WanderingTrolley · 25/03/2007 22:18

lol Caligula and MP

It's sick people that piss me off.

Cluttering up waiting rooms and hospital beds, spluttering all over the Hello magazines.

Free kitchens?! I ask you. Bring back the workhouse.

Bastards.

Linnet · 25/03/2007 22:18

And your taxes haven't paid for her kitchen Jamum. A proportion of the rent paid by the tenant of a HA property is kept back for maintenance purposes i.e new kitchens, window, bathrooms, upgrading boilers, maintenance of common areas like painting fencing and guttering etc.

This summer, in my street the fences, windows, doors and gutters are getting painted as it's been 5 years since they last did them.

colditz · 25/03/2007 22:21

And you say she and her OH work?

Then they are paying all their rent

Shut the fuck up moaning.

My ex and I worked for fucking years to keep our head above water, but because we lived in a HA house, I used to get comments like "Oh of course you don't have to worry about the mortgage"

NO, I don't now, because ex was such a twat I kicked him out, and now I am stuck on bloody benefits until I get a job. I have the dubious pleasure of knowing my credit rating is so shit because of the area I live in that I will never have a mortgage.

My kitchen is dropping to pieces. these HA kitchens look lovely when new - but they send monkeys to fit them

I paid my rent with the sweat off my arse, and presumably your mate does too - why the hell shouldn't she have a new kitchen? She'll never own her house.

jealous of me yet?

Pann · 25/03/2007 22:23

though to be fair, Jamum hasn't said why her 'friend' is complaining??!!!

go on..tell us..or atleast make something up??

misdee · 25/03/2007 22:25

true pann.

maybe she doesnt like the handles.

Pann · 25/03/2007 22:26

Bet she got mixer taps......bitch.

colditz · 25/03/2007 22:26

I can't look at this thread any more, it's making me very very angry and upset.

SparklyGothKat · 25/03/2007 22:27

My parents have lived in a council house all their married life, so nearly 30 years. Their house was/is always nicely decorated and well mantained, they have NEVER had a new kitchen fitted, my dad put in cheap B&Q units when I was about 8 or 9. Last year someone came round to assess if they needed a new kitchen and they were told that because the kitchen was clean and well mantained, they can't have one.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/03/2007 22:27

ROFL!!!

Maybe the bastards didnt wear paper shoes when they came in to fit it
