to be really annoyed that my kitchen's costing thousands while a friends having hers done free - AND she's moaning about it.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

My friends has a HA house, and this years has had new double glazing and guttering - all paid for. And is now just had a lovely new kitchen fitted.

She chose the units and tiles. Has had a team of fitters, and is now waiting for the inspection team to check all the finishing touches.

AND then she's going to buy the house - but only once all the work has been completed for free.

Sorry but this makes my blood boil. We have had to save up for years to afford a new kitchen and certainly won't end up with a nice a one as she has got that my taxes have paid for.

(yes I know - it's jealousy and sour grapes)

Anyway - rant over.

Yeah you are being unreasonable.

And why do people who own their own houses always assume that peple in ha or council houses are always on the take take take. Lots of people I know would love to be able to pay to have their own kitchen put in, I know i would, i'd be so proud that I'd paid for it myself, but it's just not possible and so if the kitchen is in a state then what are we meant to do say , not thanks very much, i'd better not have a new one incase it upsets someone.

Also bear in mind that normally the stuff used is crap and the kitchen you get is often as shoddy as the one they ripped out, they use the cheapest stuff and take the least time, so your friend won't get a kicthen like you, if she does then she is very lucky.

2shoesonanegghunt · 26/03/2007 19:02

thought that was a brill idea with dh haveing epilepsy.
you know not everyone is on benefits by choice. dh is bored rigid HATES not working. But is hard to find a job that doesn't involve driving(that bloody epilepsy again)

misdee · 26/03/2007 19:03

i have been trying to get a mutual exchange within the council as i need an extra bedroom and one couple had a 3 bedroomed house each with grown up children, that didn't live with them, they only wanted a 2 bedroomed house, but wouldn't even consider mine as it doesn't have a drive.
i only wanted one of there houses

2shoesonanegghunt · 26/03/2007 19:08

the lift is handy when we have all these nights out on the massive job seekers allowance

dustystar · 26/03/2007 19:12

A friend of mine from ds school has 7 children at least 2 of whom have SN and she is living with them in a 3 bed house as there is nowhere else for them to go. Its taken the MP getting involved for her to be made an urgent case for rehousing. Thankfully she has now been put at the top of the list but it could still be a while before she gets a place.

your taxes didn't pay for the new kitchen the rent the HA recieves did. also they are required to bring all the housing stock up to standard by UK law which is why they have double glazing and new kitchens fitted. she will probably be in line for a new bathroom by 2010 as well.

And for her to have teh right to buy her home she must have been on the council for a pretty long while as HA didn't offer right to buy to anyone after about 5 years ago.

Hatrick - agree totally, I dont think we do assume EVERYONE is take, take, take.

Personally ive already mentioned one case I know of, case 2 the tenant moved in with his girlfriend and sublet his 2 bedroomed house to a childless couple whilst claiming benefit, case 3 a couple up the road from me have a HA house each he spends every night here but pretends to still live at the other address in case he needs it. 3 cases in 1 road.

i live in a council house and they have just been rewired, central heating and double glazing because they have had to do this to make them 'decent homes' this automatically adds £10,000 to the price if you use the right to buy, which i wont be doing.

to get a new bathroom or kitchen, the bathroom has to be 40 years old, and the kitchen over 10 years old or in a very bad state of repair, which mine isn't.

the workmanship is not very good at all, and they made a really bad mess, i got £100 redecoration allowance, which everyone got whether they are on benefits or not.

this is in east riding, i don't know about anywhere else though.

just a note, i'm not complaining about any of it, just letting you know

Jacobsdad · 26/03/2007 21:38

ScoobyDooooo, my point is why dont I get the extra £35 a week. Its nice to see you find it so funny that thats ALL you get if you have another child but its £35 more than I will get. Just to go over what I said before - Eventhough I have my own house I have NO spare money a week so actually £35 a week if we had another baby would go a long way thanks!

2shoesonanegghunt · 26/03/2007 21:39

but at least you will own your own house one day

Lots of people don't and they're renting - be it from council, HA or private.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2007 21:41

Well you would jacobsdad - you'd get child benefit, and tax credits, surely?

SparklyGothKat · 26/03/2007 21:41

Harman!!! That is beautiful!!!! I want one just like that!!!

misdee · 26/03/2007 21:41

jacobsdad you can have my extra £35 a week, if you want to take my life as well?

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 21:42

Oh, harman, yes, that is the lap of luxury.

Ours is just as luxe.
