GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

My friends has a HA house, and this years has had new double glazing and guttering - all paid for. And is now just had a lovely new kitchen fitted.

She chose the units and tiles. Has had a team of fitters, and is now waiting for the inspection team to check all the finishing touches.

AND then she's going to buy the house - but only once all the work has been completed for free.

Sorry but this makes my blood boil. We have had to save up for years to afford a new kitchen and certainly won't end up with a nice a one as she has got that my taxes have paid for.

(yes I know - it's jealousy and sour grapes)

Anyway - rant over.

I am really confused at how people in council/HA housing get more benefits etc than you Jacobsdad can you explain please?

yogimum · 26/03/2007 17:36

I came across a lady and her three children (under the age of four) sleeping on the pavement in Rio de janeiro, brazil. No benefit system whatsover! I know the system isn't brilliant here but we are very lucky!

they get given more money for each child scooby, about £35 a week i think

staceym11 · 26/03/2007 17:39

I also hate right to buy scheme, think it has a lot to do with why we dont have enough council houses etc. we were on the council list for 2years and were still at number 1039!!!!

as for our part buy part rent, when/if we even manage to get a mortgage for the full price we wont buy the whole thing, we'll sell it back to ha so they can part buy part rent it to someone else!

ScoobyDooooo · 26/03/2007 17:40

OMG you really believe that all people in this situation decide to just pop child after child out just for the extra benefit & anyway if the people who are living in council/HA houses work fulltime then they will just get the same amount as you jacobsdad, child benefit & a bit more working family tax credits, it is no different so i still don't get your point?

i wonder if i could phone my bf and ask if he would be willing to concieve? its ok though, we couldnt commit fraud, he lives 200 miles away. i could get a MASSIVE house though couldnt i?

bubblerock · 26/03/2007 18:05

I haven't read the whole thread but I can see why the op is peeved. There are people that have needed help with housing and once there circumstances change they stay within this sector because it is cheaper than renting privately and their homes are maintained.

We were in a council flat for 2 years and it was brilliant for us at that time, but we didn't see it as a long term solution and were lucky to be able to buy a house (back in the days when that was an option).

I suppose the people who we should be annoyed at are those who live in council/HA housing when they can afford to privately rent or buy as they are taking up housing provided for the less well off (I assume this is like the op's friend). But you can't exactly boot people out of their homes based on their earnings.
