Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

Seagulls on stilts.

Grin Grin

What? This seems very niche!

CremeFresh · 16/07/2017 21:31

I've got a purple rug !

CremeFresh · 16/07/2017 21:32

Bluntness we obviously studied at the same interior design college Grin

scoobydoo1971 · 16/07/2017 21:32

Coloured bathroom suites from the 70's.
Dishes, china...anything car-boot saleish everywhere.
Carpet in the bathroom.
Kitchen appliances out on the work top counter that are used rarely but stand out as a statement saying 'I can cook'...bread makers, slow cookers etc.
Cheap flooring...stick on tiles, fake wood strips...all stinks to high heaven if it goes near water and swells up.
Anything coloured duck egg blue...cushions, throws, rugs...yuck.

Teddy1970 · 16/07/2017 21:32

Glossy tiled floors...makes it look like a hotel reception area
Stainless steel kitchen with no obvious handles to the units.....looks like a mortuary.

annandale · 16/07/2017 21:32

Multiple layers of cushions on beds. Can easily represent £50 expenditure for something that not only is not used, but actively prevents easy use of the bed. Probably a huge up rise in falls when cushion fanciers hit their 80s and forget about the cushions in the night.

Those instructional decals are horrific. I'd rather have a chunk of the Bible or the Desiderata or something, I'm not at all religious but who wants sheer pretention shouting at them every day?

Love grey, laminate and pale wood. Quite like hearts in other people's houses but they would just gather dust in mine.

Grilledaubergines · 16/07/2017 21:33

Beech or birch kitchen units.
Fake granite work tops
Fake slate floor tiles
Cheap wooden floors
Magnolia anything
Office style blinds
Sliding patio doors
Conservatories
Block paved driveways
Wall mounted televisions
Tea coffee sugar jars
Mug trees
Anything "vintage" yet made in a factory 6 months ago
Coloured carpets
Swags and tails
Feature walls
Twigs in tall cases
Bad lighting
Upvc front doors.

No, I don't like much.

SabineUndine · 16/07/2017 21:33

Fitted carpets are the ones that go wall to wall. You put them down and they spend the next however many years collecting muck. If you've got cats or dogs, it's worse. I know this will not be a popular opinion as so many people have them.

NeverGoOutOfStyle · 16/07/2017 21:33

Pine furniture.
Wall Decals.
Anything to do with 'inspiring' words or phrases.
Crushed Velvet.
Beige with a 'pop' of colour.
Dark, red-toned wood kitchens, usually with red walls/accessories.
Red kitchens (I have a red kitchen though, DP wanted it and i had chosen everything else so did relent, still hate it but it makes him happy)

I am a fan of some things mentioned here though, like grey walls and metro tiles, and I like everything that's so called 'scandi' style. I also like carpets, @sabineundine what is there to hate about fitted carpets? Without fitted carpets we'd just have concrete floors!

ForFuckSakeSusan · 16/07/2017 21:34

You all seriously need to join "DIY on a budget official" on FB. It's hours of entertainment for shit like this. My most recent favourite post on there being this absolute monstrosity (giving tips on how to "bling up" your intercom phone thingy) !

ethelfleda · 16/07/2017 21:35

This thread is hilarious. Definitely agree with the "keep calm and...." posters. I hate them!!

Our kitchen is grey though... but I love it! Grey cupboards with brass handles and white worktops and a massive butler sink. It's got a Victorian feel to it... got the parquet floor and my pulley maid hanging over the sink.... please don't break my heart and tell me it's crap Grin

Octavia74 · 16/07/2017 21:35

I really hate that wallpaper with massive flowers on which are in a felt/velvet-like material.

Another one that kind of irritates me that hasn't been mentioned is pebble dash ceilings (not sure what the actual term is?). It looks so much nicer smooth!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/07/2017 21:35

Oh dear...

I have:

  • a brown leather sofa (it replaced the ridiculous cream one I thought was a good idea)
  • fairy lights
  • a feature wall (although the wallpaper tones with the painted walls so it's not that much of a feature)
  • leather seated dining room chairs
  • a tiled bathroom floor (not sure what the alternative is, surely not carpet?)
  • matching cushions and curtains
SeashellsSeaShells · 16/07/2017 21:37

It gets worse Blush
My bathroom is completely titled with grey accessories.
My kitchen is grey with all red accessories! Sorry @OhMrBadger
Grey Bedroom.
Grey Lounge with matching colour popping accessories from Next! Blush

Bluntness100 · 16/07/2017 21:37

Sanderson do nice wallpapers Blunt

You can come sit on the bad taste bench with me and cremefresh...😜

BasketOfDeplorables · 16/07/2017 21:37

Scrum I have also been in a house with naked couple canvases! I would say we know each other but you would definitely have heard me bitch about DECORATIVE FUCKING COAL if that were true. I hope we have someone in common or the terrifying conclusion is that more than one naked couple photo exists!

ethelfleda · 16/07/2017 21:38

Does anyone remember woodchip wallpaper, anaglypta wallpaper or artex??

Brittbugs80 · 16/07/2017 21:38

Artex? It used to be fashionable in the 80's! I remember my Mom getting it done and it smelt like sick until it dried!

ScrumDinger · 16/07/2017 21:38

I think the Keep Calm posters had a brief moment, when they were re-discovered, when they looked fresh and cool. But they're a very good example of a trend that was just done.to.death.

ineedwine99 · 16/07/2017 21:38

I have a grey living/dining room, looks lovely. The rest if the house is mixed. Our room is pale blue, baby's room and toilet lemon, spare room pale green (might need to re do this one) bathroom/downstairs toilet soon to be very pale blue, utility room off white, kitchen pale green. Is that too many colours? Suggestions for the spare room? (Not cream!)

stubbornstains · 16/07/2017 21:39

Overhead lighting. Guaranteed to make any decor look like shite.

Metro tiles, which are supposed to resemble underground trains stations, but remind me old public toilets Ooh, I have these, I didn't know they were a thing, though! They weren't my choice (HA property) but I really like them, mostly because they remind me of old public toilets Grin.

Teddy1970 · 16/07/2017 21:39

I wonder if the fashion of having everything grey at the moment is the equilvalent to dark wood kitchens and avocado bathrooms of the 70s?

londonrach · 16/07/2017 21:40

Decking!!!!!

ScrumDinger · 16/07/2017 21:40

Basket I'd definitely remember being told about decorative coal so I can only conclude that nuddy photo shoots are a thing. Grin

The filthy deviants.

Binkybix · 16/07/2017 21:40

Duvets with sequins. Why?
