As title says really, I hate everything in my wardrobe and can never find anything I want to wear. If you were brave enough to do this what would you replace it with and from where? And how many of each basic item such as jeans, leggings etc?
So now my question about makeup. I currently don't wear any ever and think I might like to start to wear a little bit to make me look better. What brands are any good? And is a makeover in the likes of debenhams worth having?

I would love to do this. I think it would buy two pairs of black trousers. One navy. Two patterned. Good quality white blouse. Some nice everyday tops (joules)

Good black Mac and raincoat

Few dresses

I'd suggest some YouTube videos for makeup. Someone like Lisa Eldridge's makeup basics tutorials might be a good starting point.

If I were starting my wardrobe from scratch I'd need four or five pairs of jeans, and tops in black, navy, grey, olive and burgundy. I'd probably start on ASOS and Uniqlo.

I did back around Easter time. I prepared for it mind! I went on a diet and lost that extra few pounds that makes me unhappy about myself, had my hair and eyebrows done, I then booked a day in shopping. The day before I got rid of everything, spent all day looking at Pinterest to find things I like and took pictures. I then searched online for any discount codes to take with me. For we went to a big shopping centre and brought loads, but I felt so much better shopping as I knew what I was looking for, I felt better about myself, plus I got loads of money off stuff which felt even better.

I'm not a shopping person, but doing it this way has definitely changed it for me

Yes a beauty counter makeover is a reasonable place to start. Interesting to see what you could look like, if you wanted to follow their ideas. Beauty YouTube's are fantastic for getting ideas and tips.

I like my wardrobe so I can't answer the other question. Also, it's specific to my lifestyle, which probably isn't the same as yours. Mine is built around that so there are groups of clothes: work clothes (v professional), smart casual, sport/active, night out with DH/mates, decorating/crafts/messy, slobbing around, sleepwear.

I just built a post-baby capsule wardrobe - I have 2 pairs of jeans (one black, one navy), black skirt, shorts, a Breton stripe top, a pretty top, a pink top, a vest top, two cardigans, one strapless dress, one jersey dress and a long sleeved dress.

I have lost some weight and have 7lbs more to go. I will wait until I reach my goal so I have 4 weeks to prepare I would imagine. I think it will be autum/winter clothes I am buying as will be end of August time when I go shopping. I am 5ft 3 and will weight 9st 7lbs so probably a size 10-12 depending on the shop, for example my size 12 next jeans are a bit to loose and fall down if I don't wear a belt. What is in fashion I have no idea, since having the dc I seem to have lost my way. Any examples of out fits would be appreciated, I am 35 and a stay at home mum, we go out most weekends as family to place such as the park, cinema, lunch out, pop into town etc.

I started at 11st 12lbs so close to a 2 1/2 stone loss. I have know idea about body shape but just put my measurements into an online calculator and it said banana/straight shspe.

I would love to do this- I hate all my clothes- and I have loads! It's a bit of a midlife crisis though I think. I've lost my way 😕.

BearRun · 16/07/2017 09:56

Hate all of mine to grafittiartist I just don't know what I want to wear anymore.

happypoobum · 16/07/2017 09:57

I did this.

What worked for me was to stick to a colour palette of black, navy, grey, blue and white, with a pair of nude shoes, a camel wool coat and a beige mac the only deviations.

I got rid of everything coloured or too patterned.

I now find it so much easier to pull clothes together and definitely look younger, classier, and better groomed.

I only buy things I absolutely love, so buy less and wear it more, rather than having wardrobes full of tat I never wear.

Good luck!

Which one did you use? I think I need to do this!

In answer to your question, I'd love to do that. When I can afford it, I think I will!

BearRun · 16/07/2017 10:03

koalaDownUnder I just typed body shape calculator into goggle and used the top result. Loads came up so you could use more than one to compare results.

This sounds like my dream

Have a look at onthespike blog latest capsule wardrobe series.

Thanks Smile

BearRun · 16/07/2017 10:06

I have been saving money each week since I started my diet and have £1000 To spend so far will be more like £1200 in 4 weeks time. This is for everything including shoes, boots and winter coat, I could make it up to £1500 If needs be.

Banana shape? Grin

BearRun · 16/07/2017 10:13

Do shaping jeans really work? Do they make you look firmer or is the extra cost not worth it?

dudsville · 16/07/2017 10:14

Wow what a fabulous thing to do! I did a massive wardrobe cleanse and am thrilled with the results but if you can afford it your idea is a great one!

WarwickAlice · 16/07/2017 10:15

Have fun trying lots of things on! My wardrobe became more manageable when I made a pact never to buy anything that was 'ok' or 'quite nice', but only the things I absolutely loved as soon as I put them on. Also buy things with colours that are easy to mix and match so you can build lots of outfits with the same basics :)

well done on your weight loss!

KoalaDownUnder · 16/07/2017 10:17

Loving the 'onthespike' blog - it's fabulous! Grin

FreeButtonBee · 16/07/2017 10:22

Have a look at Esther coren's blog on capsule wardrobes which she's done recently. She's very funny and down to earth and practical. Onthespike.com even if you don't like it all will give a few ideas of basics to get you started

FreeButtonBee · 16/07/2017 10:24

Ha! Should have read to the end of the thread!

Missymoo100 · 16/07/2017 10:25

Id suggest bare minerals makeup- they do some great starter sets and it's powder application so u can build upto as much coverage as you like. It looks really natural and will be great if ur not used to wearing makeup. Then get a few extra staples- a good mascara, eyeliner and a natural shade lip gloss.
The Marie Kondo book inspired me to throw out most of my wardrobe- keeping what brings me joy (which hardly any of my clothes do!) but so far I don't know what to buy to replace it with and don't feel there enough stuff out, so in same boat as you. I've been trying to look at some of the stuff in the sales

anothermalteserplease · 16/07/2017 10:25

I've done it pretty much. I've cleared my wardrobe way down and now have a capsule wardrobe of pieces I love. I have completely changed the way I shop too.
Well done on the weight loss and the savings.

anothermalteserplease · 16/07/2017 10:27

I've done similar with make up too. I have way less than I used to but I mainly use smashbox and urban decay. Go and try some on and see what you like best.
