As title says really, I hate everything in my wardrobe and can never find anything I want to wear. If you were brave enough to do this what would you replace it with and from where? And how many of each basic item such as jeans, leggings etc?
So now my question about makeup. I currently don't wear any ever and think I might like to start to wear a little bit to make me look better. What brands are any good? And is a makeover in the likes of debenhams worth having?

I'm really impressed with Oasis at the moment. Some really flattering clothes in there for good prices.I have my eye on a black wide legged jumpsuit which looks super stylish and can be worn evening, work or day.Lots of great dresses and their cherry jeans are great quality for £40.John Lewis personal shopper? They have Oasis,Whistles,Warehouse and Hush if you are near London.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 16/07/2017 11:29

You could book a style consultation at John Lewis Oxford Street to look for a couple of dresses - they also do a very good bra fitting service which you would almost certainly benefit from (DO NOT LET M&S FIT YOU!).

Jeans you'll want to do separately because that's an expedition in themselves - Top Shop, Next and GAP are all worth a try (get yourself at least a 30% off voucher if you're going to Gap) even though you probably wouldn't want to go into them for anything else.

missmoz · 16/07/2017 11:41

I think skinny jeans, floaty top and jacket is a pretty universal outfit anyone can wear anytime. Definitely not too old. I think if you wouldn't wear a biker jacket, a longline blazer or denim jacket would look just as good.

I'm your height and I wear a lot of short skirts, jumpers, tights and chunky boots, to elongate my legs and balance me out.

In summer I wear a lot of culottes/printed trousers and plain tops with sandals.

London trip sounds lovely Smile

Yes will definitely need bra fitting. My band size has reduced and I am sure my actually boobs seem smaller also, which I am very pleased by. I was planning on nipping in to M&S today for a fitting and to buy a few new bras and a couple multi packs of knickers. I actually really like their underwear have always got it from their but have never used their fitting service, what is wrong with it? The bras I am currently wearing are a 38 DD and are way to big and unsupportive might as well not be wearing anything. There are now other fitting services locally unfortunately so maybe I will measure myself at home go to M&S and compare results, I'm at the point where anything will be better than what I am wearing now.

I can always get re-fitted when I do my big shop, today's underwear is not coming out of my budget.

What a brilliant idea! I so want to do this!

missmoz · 16/07/2017 12:04

M&S usually say people's backs are bigger and cups are smaller to fit their more standard sizes which is why people don't rate them

missmoz · 16/07/2017 12:09

For example I was told I was a 32 DD in M&S but I'm more like a 30F in John Lewis or Bravissimo

Really like their knickers though

CaseStudyResearch · 16/07/2017 12:16

Google bra intervention. Wouldn't be surprised if you were more like a 32FF.

Cheshire Oaks is great, I'd also do a bit of a day trip to Chester for different shops.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 16/07/2017 12:19

You're best advised to measure yourself as per this thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1 and then take the size it gives you to M&S using it as a starting point. Do NOT let the helpful ladies with tape measures anywhere near you. Buy a couple of their cheap bras in the size that seems to work best to tide you over, then get John Lewis or Bravissimo to do it properly when you're in London. If you react in shock and horror to the size you are suggested then come back here or start a separate thread titles Bra Intervention!

stayathomegardener · 16/07/2017 12:26

Take up the offer of a London trip but only go to Rigby and Peller for a perfectly fitted bra.
You need to pre book and expect to spend £70+ but hand wash it and they last for ever and your new clothes will look amazing!
Then yes to Cheshire Oaks, an hour away is so close.
It's 10 minutes from me and fantastic to pop in regularly.

Congratulations on your weight loss/saving determination.

redexpat · 16/07/2017 12:30

Id really recommend getting your style and colours done by house of colour. It is quite a big upfront cost but then you dont waste money in future on clothes you dont need and dont fit. They are very good at taking personality into account. Its the company that trinny and susannah used when doing what not to wear.

Also do you budget for your clothes? HoC say 10% of your income but I dont manage that. If you budget then some months you wont see anything you fancy but if you save it then you can make a bigger purchase.

When you say you dont want to wear the clothes you own is it because they are not appropriate for the occasion?

PNGirl · 16/07/2017 12:32

Cheshire Oaks is an upmarket outlet centre. It's good if you want more than one type of item across different budgets.

RadioGaGoo · 16/07/2017 12:43

Oh God. Do not get measured for a bra by M&S!!

FaithAgain · 16/07/2017 13:55

I did the bra intervention at home. Then went to Debenhams. Fitter got exactly the same size! She spent ages finding styles and fabrics that suited me (I have sensory issues so I hate lace for example). Not cheap but I got some lovely stuff and really comfortable. I think M&S are dreadful for bra fitting, no idea why people rate them!

KanyeWesticle · 16/07/2017 15:21

Google capsule wardrobes. Stylemepretty, puttingmetogether, and project 333 are all good for inspiration. 333 is a 33 item wardrobe for 3 seasons (spring and autumn are the same)

I find it very inspiring when I'm doing a wardrobe clearout. I love the moment when i put all the thick knits away when winter is done!

whyhastherumgone · 16/07/2017 15:24

Place marking!

I would love to do this - another one will drawers full of clothes bed nothing to wear!

FinallyHere · 16/07/2017 15:27

Another vote for www.rigbyandpeller.com/UK for bras.

How would you feel about keeping your new wardrobe simple ?

bemorewithless.com/project-333/

It would take some of your savings hoard, bit I would really encourage you to invest in finding out the colours, shapes and styles that really, really suit you . The colour is important, the style advice really made the difference for me. www.houseofcolour.co.uk

Together these mean you build a wardrobe of simple, but stylish and perfect for you clothes, which all 'go' together. Makes getting dressed simple, makes shopping simple. How would that be for you?

BearRun · 16/07/2017 15:51

So just got back from the cinema and shops, I did the bra intervention at home quickly before going came back 34 E. I forgot that Debenhams did bra measurements so went there and they came back with the same size. I got 2 bras in the sale, I think my size will change again after losing the last 7lbs as the lady said I was close to a 32 band. I also bought 2 new outfits in the h&m sale to tide me over until my big shop as all my current clothes are now to big. It was £35 To pairs of skinny trousers and 4 tops so not bothered if I only wear them for the next few months.

First off Bear well done on your amazeballs weight loss!!
I so wish I was there already - but I will be soon!
I would definitely recommend you use a personal shopper. I have used one a number of times and whilst it was not cheap I got such good purchases (and had such fun) it was well worth it! Debenhams does a personal shopping experience which my friend and I have promised ourselves we will do once we are at our target weight.

I bought a book recently which might be a good start: The Curated Closet by Anuschka Rees

For make-up I definitely agree that YouTube is a great place. Lisa Eldridge is good - so is Tati and Fleur de Force as well as Sona. Remember there is great make-up out there that does not cost the earth.

Sounds like you have a lovely DH.

and yes I am shamelessly placemarking

Tricycletops · 16/07/2017 19:25

I really want to do this when I get to my goal weight. While having two children I've yoyoed horribly and have a wardrobe mostly full of tired old clothes in everything from size 10 to 20. I have about 3.5 stone to lose still (sob) but would be really interested to see what you end up buying. And congratulations on your amazing weight loss and savings!

dontcallmelen · 16/07/2017 19:29

Hi Op, well done with your weight loss & savings throughly recommend Topshop skinny high waisted jeans, they come in different leg lengths as well, Zara are good for basics & sometimes have some good quality quirky jackets & coats. Yy a lovely soft leather biker jacket (I can give you 20years & rock skinny jeans/leather jacket) Russell & Bromley do lovely leather brogues. Hop over to style & beauty threads you will get some excellent & helpful advice.
Enjoy your day shopping in London

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 16/07/2017 21:13

That sounds like a great placeholder shop. You'll feel much better for wearing properly supportive bras.

wobblywonderwoman · 16/07/2017 22:16

Well done op and you must feel great after your new purchases today. I am inspired now listening to your savings and weight loss. Did you see the new tops in Joules - the Breton stripe type with floral detail. ?

BeeThirtythree · 17/07/2017 01:42

I have a capsule wardrobe board on Pinterest, a lot of 'French capsule wardrobe' pins, they seem to be what I like style wise. If you can find a free session with personal shopper in store that may help too.
Well done on the weight loss and saving up!
