Composite door

AIBU to think £2100 is rather a lot for a composite front door - nothing fancy - door, letterbox, fitting and VAT. I'm in Birmingham and thinking this is a bit much.

BaffledMummy · 15/07/2017 21:17

Ours was about £1800 and that was 18 months ago...also large city (not London).

IamDBCooper · 15/07/2017 21:18

Ours was well over £1000. They definitely don't come cheap.

Justgivemesomepeace · 15/07/2017 21:20

Mine was £1450, 3 months ago, live in the NW. I thought that was a lot.

PaintingByNumbers · 15/07/2017 21:22

Yes its a lot, think ours was about £700

laurelstar · 15/07/2017 21:25

We just got ours from Global Door online for £1170. We're paying over 12 month's interest-free credit. That includes measuring up and fitting.

Glitteryfrog · 15/07/2017 21:26

Are they much better than a uPVC one?

Armi · 15/07/2017 21:28

Are you buying from a double glazing company? Never accept first price!

StarSpotter · 15/07/2017 21:29

I got a top notch one for front door which was £1,200. Back door more basic and was £750.

Ridingthegravytrain · 15/07/2017 21:31

That is an awful lot. I am SE had one fitted 3 months ago. Chose the most expensive style they did and it was £1300 all in

OddBoots · 15/07/2017 21:31

We had very good service and a composite door we love from Global Door for just under £1000 about 12 months ago. Over £2000 sounds an awful lot.

YellowLawn · 15/07/2017 21:31

how big?
and what security level.
our quote (rockdoor) was over 3k.
but it's a wide door, and with a large window above.

FiddleFigs · 15/07/2017 21:32

Ours was £1660, fitted (last month). Incl full new frame, all door fittings, and a flag window. I'm in London. Originally it was £1200, but we wanted a "premium" colour and fancier lock.

BeanSprout79 · 15/07/2017 21:35

Hi, I had a nice door and side window (whole length of the door) fitted for £1.2k so yeah that's very expensive. Maybe get some other quotes?

bonjovigirl · 15/07/2017 21:48

I've just had a Solidor fitted with two full height narrow glass panels either side for £2.5k all in (SE England). I had quotes ranging from £1.5k to £3.5k from showrooms but for a door with one composite panel. Found an independent in the end who could tailor a solution to what I wanted.
I found the different composite door brands varied in price and showroom-type outlets definitely quote more than independent fitters.

ghostyslovesheets · 15/07/2017 21:49

shop around - I'm in the Midlands - I was recently quoted £850 - including hardware and fitting

Evewasinnocent · 15/07/2017 22:54

Approximately £1200 a year ago (not the cheapest one available but colour & style I wanted) - from local firm in South London. YANBU - your quote seems high!

StripySocks1 · 15/07/2017 23:45

We used a company called AJS from Birmingham and they were very reasonably priced, I told them my budget and there was no starting with ridiculous prices and haggling down, used them for all windows and a door so I don't know the individual price of the door but we're pleased with the result.

DragonMamma · 16/07/2017 00:36

I have a Solidor with a side panel (half glazed, half composite) which cost £1300 last year.

Tootsiepops · 16/07/2017 00:39

Everest quoted us £7k for a new front door. I laughed the sales rep out our house. We got it for £1200 from a competitor.

CattyWebster · 19/07/2017 22:39

www.valuedoors.co.uk
These seem very reasonable - £800 to 900 for a composite door. No salesmen. Anyone used them?

BattyBagshot · 19/07/2017 22:42

We got quoted £1300, shipped around and got it for £700 including fitting.

Palomb · 19/07/2017 22:42

What is 'composite'?

Katkincake · 19/07/2017 22:52

I'm really pleased you asked this. I've been saving styles I like on Pinterest, but hadn't got around to getting quotes , so least I know what to budget for. Hope you find something cheaper it's a scary amount Shock

McGintyii · 19/07/2017 23:08

I work for a window company, we sell Solidor composite doors and standard composite doors. The term 'composite' basically means that the door has a core made from hardwood (Solidor) faced in thick pvc that looks like painted timber, or foam (most other brands) again faced in pvc.

The foam panelled doors are cheaper and are easy to break in through. The timber ones are more expensive but are much much more secure. We sell the foam ones too but once you see they are not comparable to the timber people upgrade. The foam ones are about 400-550 + VAT. The Solidor start from about 600 up to 1200 + VAT depending on spec, toplights and side panels are more. There's plenty of stuff on the net about composite doors, search 3 minute Solidor break in on YouTube it'll open your eyes.
