Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Cantusethatname · 15/07/2017 18:46

FuzzyCustard, my father was also in this position. We were never invited to doctors' meetings. We would not have understood the medical language and the things I did hear them say about him - once I overheard one doctor saying "he would struggle in theatre" devastated me. I don't think the poor mother should be there. She has no medical degree or background and is blinded by love and maternal fire.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 15/07/2017 18:49

She's now tweeting that it's about the QC, ie VBC, not the actual guardian.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/07/2017 18:50

I don't think it's the guardian. It's the guardian's barrister.

I also think this 'breaking news' is more likely to be about the progress of the bill that is being brought by two ultra-right, pro-life Republican congressmen to give the Gards resident status. Maybe they've rushed it through to the voting stage.

One of those congressmen, whose names escapes me right now, believes life begins at conception and has focussed his entire career on trying to get abortion banned. He and his wife have twins, born by ivf and a surrogate mother. Wonder what happened to any extra embryos?

Acrossthepond55 wrote about the process the bill would half to go through on the last thread.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/07/2017 18:51

Ah, so it is about the QC.

Just noise then.

0nline · 15/07/2017 18:52

I find some of the messages on this thread very lacking in empathy

I think, in part at least, that is a side effect of what might be perceived as a near continuous hurling of British institutions and values under the American SM/MSM juggernaut.

it's something the people advising the parents should have warned them about.

This strategy will work on the right kind of Americans in order to avoid any latter griping about residence/health care, if they make it over to the states.

But it is quite high risk given that it is far from clear that they will make it over there. And in the meantime the strategy is alienating ever greater numbers of the British public.

Comments here are pretty much in line with other mainstream forums. Attitudes do seem to be hardening towards the parents. Each time the American right is pandered to empathy drops a little, and more critical stances tick upwards.

What a mess that will be left if this ends with them on Britian, highly recognisable, grief stricken and feeling something of a cold shoulder from their compatriots. I wish there were somebody in their camp that had more of an eye on what the future might look like for them longer term if their hopes do not come to pass.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 15/07/2017 18:52

Exactly. Her initial tweet did say the guardian, she's still referring to the guardian but has confirmed that she's talking about VBC. She's been sat in court three days this week and still doesn't know the difference!

Ellie56 · 15/07/2017 18:55

I don't think she should be at the meeting either. Even the judge said the doctors needed to be able to speak freely.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 15/07/2017 18:56

Catherine Whatzit's tweeted in answer to people begging her for details Angry that it's about VBC, the guardian's barrister, rehashing the whole but she's represented right to die cases so she's biased/conflict of interest. FFS.

If you're looking at end of life care of course you want a flaming lawyer who has looked into this extensively. As far as CA believe, anyone who isn't rabidly pro life is unfairly biased and shouldn't be allowed near the case. Unless they've dug up something extreme about professional standards I doubt the judge will feel the family have the right to have control over who is the guardian's barrister any more than they have the right to control the chair of Monday's meeting.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/07/2017 18:56

Online I agree entirely with your last post.

AlabamaShakes · 15/07/2017 18:56

God that CGF is insufferable. This info was shared days ago on CA FB page. The info is also easily found if you google it.

Even CA are disappointed in the 'breaking news'. Most of them knew it already

TinselTwins · 15/07/2017 18:58

AnneofGreenGablesAgain

What do you think my "rights" over my DD were when she broke her arm?

I didn't have a "right" to not seek treatment, like I would have as an adult with capacity if it had been my arm.
Had the x-ray shown no break, I wouldn't have had the right to demand she spend 6 weeks in a cast anyway
I also would not have had the right to subject her to multiple x-rays had I not liked the result of the first one or 2

In circumstances where the medical choices aren't black and white, I will be asked for my input, and I might even be given the choice.

But I don't have an overall right over my child, she's a person with her own rights, mine don't trump hers

NellieBuff · 15/07/2017 18:59

Anne: which comments do you find lacking in empathy. I think that all posters on here have an abundance of empathy for both Charlie and his parents.

What we don't have empathy for is stupidity in any form (that comment is not aimed at anyone in particular just in case I've accidently upset someone).

I personally feel that Charlie's parents are receiving some wrong advice and I do think that the statement about being a prisoner of the state is really off.

Charlie is the one person in this situation who has rights and it is HIS rights that we (and I mean everyone) must protect. His parents' rights (if they have any) are secondary to his. There is a difference

smilingmind · 15/07/2017 19:00

CA were posting about VBC supporting euthanasia earlier this week.

Maudlinmaud · 15/07/2017 19:00

Hold on, I certainly do have empathy for the parents, I cannot even begin to imagine what sort of torture they are living. But I'm also able to think critically and objectively about what is happening and being reported in the media. I do get a twang of guilt every time I post on one of these threads as it feels like I'm intruding on something so personal. The entire situation is soul destroying.

Ellie56 · 15/07/2017 19:00

The American contingent should just butt out. This case is about a British child who has more rights here than it appears he would ever have in America.

smilingmind · 15/07/2017 19:01

So if a barrister represented a murderer they would be in favour of murder ?

PencilsInSpace · 15/07/2017 19:03

You don't want your legal representative to be unbiased, you want them to argue your point of view to the best of their abilities Confused

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 15/07/2017 19:03

Alabama, yes I too saw it on CA several days ago. They must be very disappointed by this breaking news. She's had them all frothing at the mouth for hours.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 15/07/2017 19:04

Onside they have

Trump, pence and the American right in general
Prolifers
Ott priests
F4J
The pope (sort of)
CA
Most of loose women

Umm, who else?

GabsAlot · 15/07/2017 19:04

i said the statement towards gosh is disgusting

i stand by that

Ellie56 · 15/07/2017 19:06

So if a barrister represented a murderer they would be in favour of murder ?

Well with the number of accusations thrown at Katie Gollop CA probably think so.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2017 19:06

So information already in the public domain is going to be shared by some media outlets? I'm so pleased. I'll sleep better tonight knowing that! 🙄

CaveMum · 15/07/2017 19:07

No such thing as "parental rights" AnneOfGreenGablesAgain. Read this to find out the truth of the matter: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40600932

TinselTwins · 15/07/2017 19:08

"Parental rights" is a right wing concept which lets you off the hook with regards to child poverty. Your child is too black mexican poor to eat? fuck it not my problem buddy! I look after my kid so its up to you to look after yours. Or not. Beat it with a stick if you want it's your property.
