to wonder why people moan but are unwilling to do something about it.

Travelers have once again set up camp on a prominent (illegal) spot in my town.
Once again the locals are moaning about it.
Once again, I wonder why, instead of moaning, they don't take their caravans and camper vans and tents and camp alongside the travellers?

The police wouldn't be able to fine the locals, because they can't have one rule for one and one rule for others. Right?

I know a few travellers and while I don't agree with them parking on an illegal site I can see why they do it having asked about it.
You must apply for a permit to use a traveller site and can be refused for lots of reasons but the main problematic one is no connection to the area.
Tad problematic for a traveller don't you think? The whole point being they travel. I don't see many of them having a steady job or lots of family in the area to qualify as a "local" connection. And if they did, that's just one area to go to. That isn't exactly travelling is it? That's just living in a caravan.
So from my side as long as they do no damage, stay for a few weeks and leave if asked to do so by the landowner and move somewhere else I see absolutely no reason to get fucked off about it

I think your post is rather illogical. Your complaint is the locals moan and do nothing about it, yet that's exactly what you're doing. You are local, you are moaning, you are doing nothing about it. Why are they at fault and you aren't?

Travellers don't want to be on a site with gorgers. They have a protected right to their way of life as a recognised ethnic group under EU law.

This is what happened an old lady recently who tried to stop travellers breaking the lock on a gate:

People should report their presence to the local council and MP and lobby their councillors and MP's to obtain faster eviction rights. Call the police over anti social behavior as it can also be used to obtain evictions.

I suspect the timing of the fete helped to get the council to get its finger out to dig trenches/ mounds to make it more awkward to pitch up again.

It's problematic when they take over an area that's used regularly for events.
Mounds and trenches are the right way forward. I'm surprised they haven't down this in my town.

All Gypsies and Travellers living on a local authority or privately owned sites pay council tax, rent, gas, electricity, and all other charges measured in the same way as other houses.
Those living on unauthorised encampments, generally speaking, do not

Another good incentive loophole for pitching up where you're not supposed to?
