Inspired by the B*witched thread which has made me feel bloody old what was the first song you purchased?

Mine was The Tamperer ft Maya - Feel It

'What's she gonna look like with a chimney on her?'

A Little Respect by Erasure. I was 8 and it's still my favourite ever song!

Björk - homogenic

TheMysteriousJackelope · 11/07/2017 02:42

Tempole Tudor - Swords of a Thousand Men

The first album I bought was supposed to be the Star Wars sound track. Due to not understanding how these things work I got Star Wars, only it was by the Sonic Allstars. Instead of the LSO or similar playing the orchestral version it was a man in a mullet playing the synthesizer and was closer to The Firm's 'Star Trekking' than the expected mighty opus.

SheGotOffThePlane · 11/07/2017 02:45

It was a cassette of a Kylie album - the name escapes me now but the picture was of her profile, with a black disc hat thing on her head and all her curly hair tumbling out on top. Around late 80s maybe?

HelenaDove · 11/07/2017 03:06

Madonna Like A Virgin album on cassette tape.

Nquartz · 11/07/2017 06:24

The Kylie album with the picture on the front with a perm and hat that was only a rim, on cassette

TheNaze73 · 11/07/2017 07:46

Baggy Trousers - Madness was the first I physically bought with my pocket money.

The first I had bought for me was bizarrely the Rumour album by Fleetwood Mac. I'm sure my Mum bought it for herself really

Eolian · 11/07/2017 07:55

First album (on cassette) was Blondie Parallel Lines, which makes me sound cooler than I was Grin.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/07/2017 07:59

I think it was Take That - A Million Love Songs Blush. I was about 8, in my defence. I vividly remember buying the Alanis Morissette album and an Oasis single , but I'm pretty sure that was when I was a bit older.

AgentCooper · 11/07/2017 08:00

Mine was Whigfield - Saturday Night. DH, who is ten years my senior, bought Axel F and Into the Groove as his first singles from Boots. By the time I was buying, Boots no longer sold singles.

TheFarceAwakens · 11/07/2017 08:11

Last resort- Papa Roach was the first single I bought and Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park was the first album.

Allhallowseve · 11/07/2017 08:13

Distinctly remember a long car journey to Cornwall listening to it back to back on my Walkman all the way there.
