I appear to be living in pigeon street

I am in the semi sticks, train station, rubbish bus service, surrounded by farms.

I am a fan of bird song in general, and a fan of birds. But I have developed a loathing of the cooing of fat wood pigeons. 4 fucking 30am I was wide awake with a sound track of loud cooing seemingly everywhere, we have velux window over my side of bed so the three hundred/dozen/million pigeons massing on our street were super loud.

I am veggie but started craving pigeon pie in the early hours along with contemplating the ownership of a bazooka or such like to destroy all fat pigeons... I find their fondness for flying at speed into our Windows and occasionally actually killing themselves that way irritating. Also how flappy they are and how boughs bend under their massive bulk is annoying. When I first moved here I was struck by how healthy they looked in comparison to manky footed, sooty city pigeons, but I soon realised they are just as stupid and pestilential as the city fuckers just fat and pretty.

Sitting here in the garden I am enjoying the twittering and cheeping from tits, chaffinches, sparrows and the like. We are also very fortunate to see Red Kites regularly. Magnificent and graceful. But the ruddy pigeons... Uh. Did I mention that due to the position of our bed in relation to the ground window a couple of years ago I went up to my room and was greeted with the right of a pigeon perched on the window sill. Back to me and are hanging over, it looked at me unconcerned, casually pooed on my bed then flapped off!Angry

So pigeons are bastards, yes?

Some tosser poster on here mentioned that the call of a wood pigeon sounds like someone whingeing 'my toe hurts Betty'. oops that tosser poster may have been me Blush sorry.

Albatross26 · 10/07/2017 19:06

Don't mind wood pigeons but I live in a town and those bastards come and land on the balcony at 4 in the morning and sit there doing that growly repetitive cooing thing over and over. If you get up and move the curtains they flap off but then just come back again. I love birds, I've travelled all the way to the Falklands to see birds, but those fuckers are testing my patience!

Albatross26 · 10/07/2017 19:08

MissionItsPossible I came in late one night recently to find the tap running full blast in the kitchen, crockery smashed everywhere and a nervous looking pigeon sitting on the hob cover. I thought some had broken in at first!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 10/07/2017 19:10

I am now singing that sodding song

NoWordForFluffy · 10/07/2017 19:13

13 episodes of Pigeon Street? I must've had the memory capacity of a goldfish not to click onto that as a child!

pickledparsnip · 10/07/2017 19:16

You think pigeons are bad, try seagulls. Noisy fucking bastards.

Veronicat · 10/07/2017 19:21

So exciting to watch Long Distance Clara's theme tune again! She was the best.

Want2beme · 10/07/2017 19:33

I love them so much, I feed them every day. Started off with 2 when I moved here & there are now 22! When they've finished scoffing breakfast here, they go up to my neighbour for elevenses.

reallybadidea · 10/07/2017 19:36

Bollocks were there only 13 episodes. There were definitely hundreds

MimsyFluff · 10/07/2017 19:45

Florriesma my dog catches birds in our garden she fly's into the air (6M) at super speed and catches them flying past Shock. She is yet to discover she can jump over 1M fences

MimsyFluff · 10/07/2017 19:46

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/07/2017 19:47

Don't know which is worse gulls or pigeons?!? Bloody gulls!! They roost on my roof (near city centre) Have had many a early morning wake up call thanks to them (often waking in a panic after a seaside themed nightmare). Then when I go into city centre shops I get dive bombed by the kamakazi pigeons!

Soubriquet · 10/07/2017 21:07

See they even cause delays on the roads

That seagull video though..that was funny Grin

Flopjustwantscoffee · 10/07/2017 21:13

I love wood pigeons. The ones near us would always crap on my exs car, he would huff and puff and clean it off every morning and then park it somewhere else on the road and then the next morning there would be more crap on the windscreen and he would huff and puff and clean it of. Wonderful birds...

TheWitchAndTrevor · 10/07/2017 21:38

So glad pigeon street was linked too, as was soooo disappointed the thread wasn't actually about pigeon street.

Have just shown it, button moon and raggy dolls to ds l (he was unimpressed but was strangely mesmerised) he a teenager Grin

Took me right back, I loved Pigeon Street

YokoReturns · 10/07/2017 21:51

Isn't Pigeon Street narrated by Sir Derek of Griffiths? Loved the music when I was tiny, but it left DS1 nonplussed (he prefers Bagpuss/The Flumps).

arrrrghhwinehelpswithteens · 10/07/2017 21:53

we have seagulls and bloody wood pigeons. Oh and crows. The noise is appalling. However thr funniest was some years ago when we had house martins nesting in the eaves. They would line up on my bedroom windowsill at 5am, clear their throats and start to sing. For small birds they are bloody loud. The terror cat noticed this and decided it was a buffet. Next morning it's clear throats, sing, skwawk loudly followed by warning md frustrated miaow. Third morning they must have had lookouts as the miaow was a screech and he shot back in and hid. I swear the bloody birds were sniggering

doobree · 10/07/2017 22:53

I think you need a Kestrel of Doom to put on your roof, as per this recent thread.

Kestrel

I LOVE Pigeon Street. I was sure there were at least 50 episodes! Oooh, oooh! Long Distance Clara was my favourite :)

Butterymuffin · 10/07/2017 22:57

Can't believe there are only 13 episodes of Pigeon Street! That's only 1 more than Fawlty Towers.

Plainlycrackers · 10/07/2017 23:01

Feeling your pain OP... and to add insult to injury one pair keeps shagging on our back fence... the dog loathes them too so we find satisfaction watching him roaring across the garden to chase them away. Collared doves are nice though... daintier, prettier, QUIETER and generally less annoyingly in your face!!!🐦🐦

Sara107 · 10/07/2017 23:14

I've developed a loathing of pigeons too. We have a pair living in and near our garden, and they are always crashing and flapping madly in the trees. They don't seem to have got the hang of actually perching on a branch. But the main reason I hate them is that our neighbour has about 100 pet pigeons in a shed in his garden. They are really noisy. And they take off in huge, flapping flocks right over our garden.Because of the bird flu they're locked up a lot this year, but last summer they used to refuse to go to bed and spend the night on our roof instead. The scrabbling and jumping and cooing and generally thumping around would have us up by 4am every day. Then we had the unwanted visitors arriving down the chimneys, so I had to spend £ hundreds getting the chimneys sealed up to keep the feckers out. Down with pigeons!!
