Neighbours children playing in communal car park

I came out into my garden this morning with a cup of coffee to be met by the sound of a couple of neighbours dc playing football in the small parking area out the back. They've put wheelie bins out as the net.

I bloody love it!

We've been here 11 years and nobody has ever done it until earlier this summer I let my dds go out on their scooters. I sit in our small garden (all gardens are small) and can hear them play but it's the first year I've felt they're old enough and reliable enough not to hit the cars. Now other dc are doing the same and I love it. It's a summer morning and the sound of dc playing is exactly what I should be able to hear.

Finally the neighbourhood is coming out to play and we're about to move house!

I like it - it feels 'summery' to hear kids playing outside. We have secure carpark behind our building and the kids play out there on bikes, with balls, tag, flying helicopter things, you name it. They stay away from the cars where possible, and they move out of the way when cars want in or out. They're pretty safe cause you have to wait for the electronic gate to open so nobody is driving with any speed and without the secure car park, they'd be too young to go to the park alone and wouldn't get out to play as much.

It becomes s problem when the littler kids are sent out to play as well, with the assumption the older kids will watch them

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2017 14:27

A small park may be a fair way to go and their parents maybe busy with other children etc.

But that doesn't give them the right to potentially damage other peoples' property!

worridmum · 10/07/2017 14:41

I hope you would pay for the damage your child causes to peoples car rather then make the neigbours pay through increaed preimiums on there insurance

RainbowBriteRules · 10/07/2017 14:47

Yes of course I would pay.

worridmum · 10/07/2017 14:47

we had a neighbour's child who smased our front window with a football the parent of said child just shugged her shoulders and told us to claim on our insurnce.......

What joy when her front windows were smashed with a football the very next weekend (oh no i didnt give permisson for my children to play in front of her house oh no).

And she came over and asked us how we were going to pay i said why dont you claim on your insurnace and she went away in a huff

amazingly no more windows were broken afterwoods and children played with my consideration of other peoples property

Mine and neighbourhood children play near our cars every day, on our driveways and in the cul de sac. Nobody has ever damaged anyones car.

The people going on about it being a car park, would they be the same if the cars were on the road and the children played out there? If no then its not about your cars at all, and if yes you really don't want children playing anywhere.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2017 16:55

If my car was damaged by some kid with a football I wouldn't care whether it was on the road or in a car park.

I'm happy for children to play outside, it's just that there's a time and a place and a car park or road isn't it.

WillRikers, I don't know if you have children or not, but would you pay for any damage caused by your children or are you one of the 'claim on your insurance' brigade?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2017 16:55

Sorry, I missed the bit where you say 'mine and neighbourhood children'.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 10/07/2017 16:58

Was mentioning my children playing near my car not a clue?

I'd pay for any damage. Never happened in 15 years though. The only damage done to my car was by neighbours child having driving lessons...maybe we should ban them?

Lemonnaise · 10/07/2017 17:07

Christ almighty, people would argue over anything on here. YANBU OP. Kids are out on my street playing everyday and it's great. No cars have ever been damaged among all the bikes, scooters, footballs and flickers.

m0therofdragons · 10/07/2017 23:14

Thinking about it, there are actually more cars parked directly by the park than there are in the car park. We do have a park nearby but they're too little to go there without me where as 2 out of 3 dc can play out with one dc staying in if she wants, or I can keep an eye on dinner cooking.

I have been told that the new cul de sac has lots of dc who play in the road but being a cul de sac it's not like you can get a speed up anyway so I'll probably miss them with my car.
