Neighbours children playing in communal car park

I came out into my garden this morning with a cup of coffee to be met by the sound of a couple of neighbours dc playing football in the small parking area out the back. They've put wheelie bins out as the net.

I bloody love it!

We've been here 11 years and nobody has ever done it until earlier this summer I let my dds go out on their scooters. I sit in our small garden (all gardens are small) and can hear them play but it's the first year I've felt they're old enough and reliable enough not to hit the cars. Now other dc are doing the same and I love it. It's a summer morning and the sound of dc playing is exactly what I should be able to hear.

Finally the neighbourhood is coming out to play and we're about to move house!

Why would anyone park on the road when there's a car park? If I bought a property that came with parking I would expect to be able to use it.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 09/07/2017 14:37

Kids playing there aren't stopping anyone from parking there.
Miserable fuckers.

ConcreteUnderpants · 09/07/2017 15:19

miserable fuckers? Erm It's not about kids not enjoying themselves.
I don't think the people who've disagreed with this are miserable fuckers who detest children laughing, kittens purring etc.

I would imagine it's more about safety, potential damage to property/cars and expecting residents to park elsewhere.

Seems a complete lack of consideration for your neighbours.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 09/07/2017 15:24

Like I said, miserable fuckers.

Sedona123 · 09/07/2017 17:39

What ConcreteUnderpants said.

It's car park. It's meant for parking your car in. If your kids want to kick a ball around or use their scooters, they should use either your garden, your driveway or the nearest park.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 09/07/2017 17:56

WTF? Of course YABU to love the fact that children are playing in a car park. Hmm

m0therofdragons · 09/07/2017 23:48

How am I noisy? The kids playing football weren't even mine. As I said, gardens are small so kids can't scoot in any of them. We have 10 homes using the parking and my kids play out on scooters less than once a week since end of April for about 30 minutes in the middle, away from cars. How is it different to the kids who play out at the end of the cul de sac? We're near the entrance so that's too far for my dc to go as it's a long cul de sac. We're talking sensible and polite primary age dc.

Some people should live in the middle of nowhere if dc having fun gets them so annoyed as this thread suggests Hmm No cars have been harmed and are less likely to be than if they'd kicked the ball on their garden as I said. Many also choose to park on the road as it's quiet, wide and straight outside the front door. Luckily we have nice neighbours 😂

I love kids playing out too. Sounds as if they were careful and having fun. YANBU. Obviously if it was a busy multi-storey car park then that is not safe but clearly that is not the case here.

Although MN seems to hate kids having fun, making any noise at all, or basically just being kids so this was a brave AIBU.

kali110 · 10/07/2017 01:56

No, i think msnet hates kids kicking balls near cars, and kids playing in a carpark where they could be hit.
How very strange and unfriendly of msnet Hmm
There is a difference between playing in a cul-de-sac and playing in a carpark.

user1485342611 · 10/07/2017 10:36

If the sound doesn't bother you, that's fine.

If other neighbours find it annoying or have safety concerns. that's also fine.

Not being bothered by it doesn't put you on some kind of higher moral ground, though.

sharklovers · 10/07/2017 10:57

A car park is for cars, the clue's in the name. I'd go fucking nuclear.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 10/07/2017 11:13

But if you don't have a cul de sac and the only place is the carpark, then kids playing is more important that a ball being near your precious car!

user1485342611 · 10/07/2017 11:29

This thread is coming across as a veiled (and not very subtle) way of having a go at perceived 'Victor Meldrews'.

I see the 'Some people should live in the middle of nowhere' comment has made it's appearance [hmm[

Soslowmo · 10/07/2017 11:36

We recently had an 'Active Streets' afternoon where the whole road was closed for a few hours - the residents all came out of their houses - we played games, rode bikes, did crafts, shared tea & cakes and chatted to people we live next to, but have never previously met! Highly recommend it!

sharklovers · 10/07/2017 12:36

kids playing is more important that a ball being near your precious car!

It really isn't! How else do you expect to teach kids to have respect for other people's property? I bet you're the type of person who opens their car door into someone else's and just days "it's only a car"

Janeinthemiddle · 10/07/2017 12:38

Totally agree with shark

Go play in a field! Or anywhere that is more suitable like a park.

PotteringAlong · 10/07/2017 12:40

It's a car park. A park for cars. You want to play football or scoot go to an actual park.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 10/07/2017 12:42

So if they don't have any handy fields or large parks where they can play together, they should all fuck off and sit inside, or wait until their parents can individually ferry them places?

It's a space outside their houses where they aren't doing any harm. Kids playing outside is a good thing, you seem to have forgotten that.

Janeinthemiddle · 10/07/2017 12:49

Don't really need a large park to play do they? What's wrong with playing with a small park?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2017 12:49

kids playing is more important that a ball being near your precious car!

It really isn't more important than my car that I pay a lot of money for! Will the parents be paying for the damage? I doubt it, they are probably oblivious.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 10/07/2017 12:50

They probably don't have any park handy, or else they wouldn't be playing in a car park Hmm.

kali110 · 10/07/2017 13:43

then kids playing is more important that a ball being near your precious car!
No, no it really isn't Hmm
What is wrong with some people?

RainbowBriteRules · 10/07/2017 13:46

Presumably there is no nearby field, or maybe they need to stay close to the house!! I do think kids playing outside is important and would facilitate it as a neighbour. Should they just sit all day and watch telly then? People are so miserable. A small park may be a fair way to go and their parents maybe busy with other children etc.

WyfOfBathe · 10/07/2017 13:58

I live within hearing distance of a park. I love hearing kids playing out in the park.

I used to live in a small block with a communal car park for about 10 flats. Not only did a car window get cracked by kids playing ball games, but small children would obliviously scoot behind reversing cars. I would never let my children play in a car park, and would be annoyed to see other parents allowing it.

Ollivander84 · 10/07/2017 14:07

My neighbours kid is repeatedly slamming his ball around the road. My car got damaged and no, they didn't pay. There's a park that's empty which is less than a 2 min walk away. But he would rather carry on denting cars and damaging the house....
