Bridesmaid dress SOS (my dress doesn't fit anymore!)

Eek dress SOS Blush. Shamelessly posting for traffic!

I've been asked to be a friend's bridesmaid for her wedding at the beginning of August.

We bought my dress a couple of months ago, so I thought I'd try it on earlier today to see whether it still fits well.

Only problem is... it won't do up!!

Any advice Mumsnetters on how I can make the dress fit?!

Thanks!!

Where's it stuck?

Bum boobs?

Can we see?

PurpleDaisies · 07/07/2017 23:32

Is there any fabric in the seams to let it out?

Pombearsandnaiceham · 07/07/2017 23:38

Thanks for the replies Green and Purple!

The dress has a zip that does up on the right-hand side from the thigh to just by my boobs.

When I tried to zip it up just now, it got stuck just about halfway up (just above my waist. I think).

Any tips on emergency weight loss please?

Desperate times call for desperate measures...!

I'd talk to a dressmaker and get the back turned into a lace up or maybe a panel inserted.

Low carb is probably the quickest weight loss diet but no fun at all.

BeepBeepMOVE · 07/07/2017 23:49

You've a month, shouldn't be too hard if it fitted recently.

Do a shake diet for a week, quickest way to lose weight, easy too.

BeepBeepMOVE · 07/07/2017 23:49

And much cheaper than normal food too!

IStoleDipsysHat · 07/07/2017 23:53

Diet and exercise to both lose some weight and tone up.

DPotter · 07/07/2017 23:55

Don't panic.
Its been soooo hot the last couple of days and it can be really difficult to get into tight fitting clothes when you're hot and sticky. Maybe re-try the dress in an air conditioned room, after you've been in it awhile? Ask someone else to do the zip for you - I always have trouble getting the angles right with my hand to pull up zips at the side
Failing that a quick crash diet of your choice for a week to 10 days should do the trick.

Were you wearing spandex / minimising bra, if not get some

Cinderllaspinkdresswasthebest · 07/07/2017 23:57

definitely a panel inserted - my sister didn't lose as much weight has she'd hoped for her wedding and the dressmaker inserted a panel where the back 'crisscrossed' over.

Very easy to do and relatively cheap.

LockedOutOfMN · 07/07/2017 23:59

Low carb, running, Bootea

SmilingButClueless · 08/07/2017 00:00

Would control underwear help at all? Can make a big difference as long as it can't be seen under the dress.

ThreeLeggedDonkey · 08/07/2017 00:02

Spanx!

Or, a crash diet. I'm really reluctant to give advice on this as I have an eating disorder so I'll just say that eating less calories than you burn will result in weight loss (so check your BMR and work out from there). Make sure you drink tons of water, no alcohol, and limit carbs. Lots of vegetables and lean protein. Weights everyday will help too.

Good luck!

quizqueen · 08/07/2017 00:17

Do a juice diet. You'll lose at least half a stone in a couple of weeks

PetalHead · 08/07/2017 00:25

Are you premenstrual so could be a bit bloated? I'm always bigger round the waist pre-period.

Agree you can lose some weight in a month without too much trouble - avoid snacks and puddings, do weights, walk/run/swim, drink a lot of water, avoid alcohol, and get early nights if you can (you will snack/drink less and also poor sleep can contribute to gaining weight).

Spanx-type thing might help but could be grim if it's going to be hot.

LovingLola · 08/07/2017 00:26

Did it fit ok a few weeks ago?

Aquamarine1029 · 08/07/2017 00:31

No alcohol AT ALL. No carbs. Lots of water. Eat eggs, chicken, other meats and vegetables. Seriously, NO SUGARS AT ALL. If you want to lose weight quickly, this is the only healthy way to do it.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/07/2017 00:36

This happened to me but with just 10 days to go before the wedding!

I ate nothing but tuna salad and drank only water for those 10 days and lost enough for the dress to do up with room spare. I bloated up like fuck as soon as I ate normal food at the wedding breakfast mind

badg3r · 08/07/2017 00:37

A good friend of mine had this same dilemma recently! They went on a diet and walked everywhere for a month. Not fun, but effective! Otherwise, any chance you can exchange the dress for a size bigger, if it was off the hanger?

ShoesHaveSouls · 08/07/2017 00:38

You can lose it in a month/three weeks? Blood sugar diet. No fun, but will get pounds off in 3 weeks.

DianneDionne · 08/07/2017 00:47

Slimming World or WW will work for a few weeks at least if you stick to it properly, plus you have someone checking each week so you're less likely to fall off the wagon for long.

PyongyangKipperbang · 08/07/2017 01:03

Cut out as many carbs as you can. Basically green veg and protein, no milk or alcohol. The weight will drop off. Its not sustainable or advised over a long period but it really works for short term emergency loss.

Then if you are still having trouble, have a body wrap the day before which should take off another inch or so.

kali110 · 08/07/2017 01:12

bootea just make sure you're not soley relying on the pill if you use this!
Try to get it taken out?
Add extra material?
Do shakes for the month?
( shake morning and lunch and light evening? Or light lunch?)

lumpit · 08/07/2017 13:46

Bootea is fine if you're on the pill as long as you get the laxative free one!
I'd recommend combining low carb with 18:6 diet (intermittent fasting), drink loads of water and try to get in some HIIT workouts or weights

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/07/2017 14:22

My BM was 4m pg by my wedding and it was very will she/ won't she fit in the last couple of weeks up to the wedding. The zip clearly wasn't happening by the week of the wedding so she put a panel in the back and used eyes from a pack of hooks and eyes to make a lace up back.

Skyllo30 · 08/07/2017 14:26

Is it definitely too tight? Some dresses with zips like this have a thicker section of material at the waist that you have to force the zip over.
