To have fired my cancer dr.?
They never call to remind of appointments,
Then ask why you did not show up?
I called at 5AM day of appointment cause I was sick.
Office WAKES ME UP at 8 AM to reschedule. (Just being Lazy, Get It Done IMO)
I fail to call back, I forget, keep forgetting.
I think Dr office Should stay on my ass.
I called dr and they said "They call 1 time as a courtesy"
I told them it seems like they do not care.
and I would find a dr. that cares.

Doctors are there to be your secretary so YABU.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 17:56

Are you in the US?

They never call to remind of appointments

Do you not get a letter? Why can't you put the date on a wall calendar or in your diary?

Confused
MeanAger · 07/07/2017 17:59

Put the appointment in your phone calendar and set reminders. No excuse to miss appointments unless you are ill.

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 07/07/2017 18:02

YABU, you are a grown up. These appointments are important for your health. Where do you expect them to find the time to phone around everyone to remind them.

GreenHillsOfHome · 07/07/2017 18:03

You're (presumably) a grown up. You shouldn't need reminding of the appointments, nor are the Dr's obliged to keep chasing you.

Buy a diary/calendar/phone reminder app.

NicolasFlamel · 07/07/2017 18:04

Hmm take responsibility for turning up to your appointments? If you know you forget, put it in your phone or something. It's not your doctors job.

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 07/07/2017 18:04

This has to be a reverse or a thread about someone else. Surely nobody would wonder if they were being U about this?

JeffVadersMum · 07/07/2017 18:04

At the risk of sounding harsh, are you an adult?

Do you get to other places on time? I understand that having cancer pits enormous strain on you, but they are drs not a pa

Foniks · 07/07/2017 18:04

Yes. It's down to them to help you manage your illness, not to manage your life. They called you, you didn't call back.

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 07/07/2017 18:06

You seem to be mistaking the role of your doctor for that of a PA.

mrbreezeet1 · 07/07/2017 18:24

My PA don't even stay on My ass.
OK Im alone, no one to stay after me.
I figured I get my ass jumped on.
Yes I am in the US.
Most XDroctors call a day or two ahead.

PotteringAlong · 07/07/2017 18:27

Bloody hell yes you are being unreasonable. They didn't go to medical school for 7 years and then train for many more so they can waste their time calling you because you can't be arsed to write "dr, 4pm" on a calendar.

MeanAger · 07/07/2017 18:29

Stay on your own ass.

Ecureuil · 07/07/2017 18:29

What?! You get an appointment, you write it on your calendar/in your diary/on your phone and you turn up to it.

thebigbluedustbin · 07/07/2017 18:31

Just to counter some of the posts here, I can sort of see where OP is coming from. If s/he is being treated for cancer and has nobody to help with keeping appointments in order it can actually be very difficult to keep track of it all. Many medications do affect brain and memory. Plus cancer is a very hard thing to live with and it's not always the easiest thing to look after yourself properly and keep on top of things through that stress.

thebigbluedustbin · 07/07/2017 18:32

And yes, my dr does call a couple of days ahead of appointments.

Sparklingbrook · 07/07/2017 18:33

That's what appointment cards and calendars are for.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 18:34

Which is why you diary it immediately. I couldn't remember half my appointments, meetings etc without a diary - and I don't have cancer!

SequinsOnEverything · 07/07/2017 18:36

YABU. Get a diary. Put it in there. If you fail to phone to rebook they will assume you aren't engaged with treatment and focus on patients who are.

StripeyDeckchair · 07/07/2017 18:39

As someone who has had cancer you are being extremely unreasonable.
Given the seriousness of your illness I'm astonished that you aren't tracking your appointments on a calendar, your phone, your tablet and keeping a health diary to refer to in your appointments.

The medical team treating you are treating hundreds of others with the same disease, they have trained for years to do this job the least you can do is make sure you go your appointments.

luckylucky24 · 07/07/2017 18:43

The NHS do actually remind people by text. If you are struggling to remember OP then put a reminder in your phone and set it to remind you a day before and then an hour before.

If they rang once then YABU to expect another call because you missed it.

mrbreezeet1 · 07/07/2017 18:47

Alright then.
I called back and accepted the responsibility for not rescheduling.
And have made another appointment.
Thanks for the honesty.
As far as "Staying on my own ass"
The problem is Lots 0 times I forget, and then by the time I think about it again, It is too late in the day.
That's all it is.
Don't be so quick to judge.
Thank you though, You are correct in other ways.
Maybe your memory will net be so good some day.

SpicyBeanzy · 07/07/2017 18:48

I'm very sorry to hear you have cancer Flowers

Regarding the appointments however, I find it very strange a doctor's office would ever be expected to do this.

In most countries we:

  1. Put date in phone
  2. Show up on date
