To have fired my cancer dr.?
They never call to remind of appointments,
Then ask why you did not show up?
I called at 5AM day of appointment cause I was sick.
Office WAKES ME UP at 8 AM to reschedule. (Just being Lazy, Get It Done IMO)
I fail to call back, I forget, keep forgetting.
I think Dr office Should stay on my ass.
I called dr and they said "They call 1 time as a courtesy"
I told them it seems like they do not care.
and I would find a dr. that cares.

Put a reminder on your phone/laptop whatever if your memory is not good. Do it now with the appointment you have just made. Write it in big letters and pin it somewhere prominent too.

MeanAger · 07/07/2017 18:56

The problem is Lots 0 times I forget, and then by the time I think about it again, It is too late in the day.
That's all it is.
Don't be so quick to judge.
Thank you though, You are correct in other ways.
Maybe your memory will net be so good some day.

It wasn't judgement, it was advice. Take responsibility for it yourself by creating appointments in the calendar of your phone and setting reminders. Do it as soon as you make the appointment.

Sorry you have this awful disease, but yabu - set a reminder in your phone for the day before, and another one for the morning of appointment.

Iamastonished · 07/07/2017 19:13

The NHS sends texts now to remind patients about appointments. It's a very efficient way of reminding people.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 07/07/2017 19:21

Then write it on your hands in black marker.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/07/2017 19:27

DH has cancer, he also has not a great memory which I put down to chemo, and oh yes he has a diary. Sorry we are where you are and manage

ForexTrader · 07/07/2017 19:29

The OP has already stated she is in the US. I don't think people telling her about NHS procedures will be helpful for her.

kali110 · 07/07/2017 19:38

I have a bad memory..
Put them in your phone.
Set a reminder.
It is not your doctors responsibility to remind you you have an appointment, or to chase you.
You can set your phone to remind you that you have appointments.
Anything v.important i put on my mirror.

OhLaVache · 07/07/2017 19:53

Maybe it's a cultural thing - if we (UK) were paying thousands for medical insurance, maybe we'd expect reminders and a bit more hand holding? As it is, it's free, we put it in the diary, turn up and feel grateful for the privilege! Totally different dynamic.

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 07/07/2017 19:55

In fairness- Private consultants here in the U.K. do have a phone reminder of your appointment.

And I get texts from NHS GP and NHS consultants.

Thank You.
Yes, I think it is the chemo too,
If your husband was forgetting his appointments, You would stay after him.
I have no one that cares about me, and to stay after me.
That's all I'm saying.
To me it seems the doctors are running a Cancer treatment mill.
And someone commented Me mixing the doctor up with the PA jobs.
Yes, I mean the whole office.
And it's all about Volume.

Yes It Is!
Put them in your phone.
Set a reminder.
I don't know how.

Sparklingbrook · 07/07/2017 22:44

But all you have to do is make a note as soon as the appointment arrives, put an alert on your phone and a note on the fridge etc . No need for the HCPs to be chasing you up then, and you can inform them if for whatever reason you can't attend.

Sparklingbrook · 07/07/2017 22:46

If you can't do an alert on your phone (usually on calendar bit) then write notes and put them places in the house you will see them. Get a diary or calendar.

Iamastonished · 07/07/2017 22:48

"It is not your doctors responsibility to remind you you have an appointment, or to chase you.
Yes It Is!"

Not in the UK it isn't. Can you ask the receptionist to give you an appointment card with the date written on it, then you can transfer it to the wall calendar at home.

Is your phone synced with Outlook? I find Outlook Calendar is brilliant for reminders for all sorts of stuff.

Crispbutty · 07/07/2017 22:48

You must know how to use a calendar

MeanAger · 07/07/2017 22:50

Surely you know how to write on a calendar?

MeanAger · 07/07/2017 22:53

Look OP you are looking at this all the wrong way.

If you miss an appointment your doctor doesn't suffer, the receptionist doesn't suffer, the nurses don't suffer. The only person who suffers by you missing an appointment is YOU, so surely you can see that it's down to YOU to make sure you attend them? Stop making excuses about not knowing how to use a calendar and take responsibility for your own medical care! Youre the one that needs it!

kali110 · 07/07/2017 22:53

It is not your doctors responsibility to remind you you have an appointment, or to chase you.
It is!

I'm sorry, How is it their fault to chase you? Confused
If you really can't put it in your phone then buy a calendar.
You can right it in there.
Or open your calendar up on your phone and either start typing or press create event

kali110 · 07/07/2017 22:54

write it right in there

ilovesooty · 07/07/2017 22:59

I would have thought that treatment in the US is too costly to miss appointments.

GinIsIn · 07/07/2017 23:00

Umm.... I'm sorry your sick, but it's not the doctor's job to be your diary planner, it's their job to treat cancer. Whether you show up for treatment or not is your responsibility, not theirs. If you can't work your phone, maybe buy some post-its. Get the doctor to write a post-it at the appointment and stick it on your fridge when you get home. The time they would spend chasing you is time they wouldn't have to treat another patient with cancer.

GinIsIn · 07/07/2017 23:00

you're

mrbreezeet1 · 12/07/2017 19:02

Just to counter some of the posts here, I can sort of see where OP is coming from. If s/he is being treated for cancer and has nobody to help with keeping appointments in order it can actually be very difficult to keep track of it all. Many medications do affect brain and memory. Plus cancer is a very hard thing to live with and it's not always the easiest thing to look after yourself properly and keep on top of things through that stress.
thank you, yes, this is the case, it becomes overwhelming
