Today a stranger walked up to me in the street, gestured to my 2yo, and said "She's Downs Syndrome, yeah?".

Dd does not have Downs Syndrome. Nor does her appearance in any way suggest she might do.

So. Weird.

Can anyone beat that?

That's awful.

I was working from home today and needed to speak to my manager (whose desk is opposite mine). I called but our office assistant picked up. I said I needed to speak to boss, she said "oh errrrm hold on" and then I heard her say to him "is purplemac allowed to talk to you?". He declares very loudly and sarcastically "oh no i could NEVER allow purplemac to talk to me, I'm far too important".

So the assistant gets back on the phone and says "sorry he said no, bye!" And hung up!!

Stunned silence. Until my boss got straight on our work instant messenger and declared that of course he would talk to me.

But yeah - wtf?! Confused

I was being shown round a venue for a party I'm organising by a lady I've never met before. I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my third DC - my second was stillborn at 39 weeks last year.

She started firing lots of questions about how many children I have, did I have a preference, how many weeks was I and I got a bit tongue tied and nervous as I find it really uncomfortable to talk about pregnancy in fact it makes me feel quite sick and she was looking at me funny so for some reason I thought I'd be honest with her.

I said to her 'sorry I'm finding all these questions quite difficult as I had a stillborn baby last year and find the subject of pregnancy hard'

She said the following

'Oh, well, I've always thought that these things happen for a reason and the baby probably wasn't right and we only want healthy children don't we? Plus look at you, you've moved on nice and quickly and are now having another baby'

I then had to walk around after her in stunned silence for 15 minutes while she showed me round and I honestly was speechless. WTF indeed? What is wrong with some people?!

I'm also now very angry I didn't say something to her but at the time I was so shocked it was all I could do to stay upright.

My sil was having a birthday party for her dd at the soft play, just for family. Obviously her dd had told her friends at nursery about it as one of the nursery mums texted sil to say that obviously her dd's invite had been overlooked and announced they were coming. Sil explained it was just a family get together but this woman rocked up anyway and even left her daughter with sil while she went shopping! Confused

bwentinquake · 06/07/2017 21:35

Mac - that's hilarious. I hope the office assistant is suitably apologetic when you see them next!

Wino - so sorry for your loss and lots of positive vibes for your pregnancy. What an ignorant, stupid, insensitive thing for her to have said, no wonder it threw you!

DD is 4, she was holding a toy and said "It looks so much like [friend's mum]"

I looked around to see which toy she had and it was a cuddly toy chihuahua!

It does not look at all like [friend's mum] IMO. But I still can't mention it to [friend's mum] because nobody wants to be told that they look like a chihuahua. Even if they don't Grin

Queenofthestress · 06/07/2017 21:39

Someone gave me a balloon for D'S in McDonald's because it's apparently obvious he's disabled (It's not, hes high functioning ASD with non obvious behavioural clues) then told me all about her son and his disability
Was sat there thinking 'what the fuck?! You don't just go and state that someone's child is disabled you old bat!'

Impatientwino · 06/07/2017 21:41

Thanks bwent

Chups that made me smile!

RedStripeIassie · 06/07/2017 21:44

That's weird and horrible.
My WTF moment was a church memeber type lady who'd let herself into my garden, woke me up on a deck chair and tried to get me to join the parish mothers union!! Fuck off im sleeping. In my garden!

ollieplimsoles · 06/07/2017 22:17

In the supermarket with dd in her buggy asleep, had the hood over her pram.
Woman next to me had hands full with some stuff she was buying, I stopped to check my list and she started putting her stuff on my pram hood...

She grabbed a nearby basket and started ordering her things into it, taking them from my pram top and putting them in the basket. All with me stood open mouthed next to her. Even other bystanders were like wtf.. she never once acknowledged or spoke to me.Confused

OliviaStabler · 06/07/2017 22:20

Someone I thought was a great friend insulted me. I replied back her behaviour wasn't acceptable and she has cut contact. We've spoken every day for two years Sad

igivein · 06/07/2017 22:47

Wanted to make a curry for tea and needed an onion. Called in Lidl. Three loose onions left in the box, picked one up and went to the till to be told 'sorry we don't have any loose onions, just bagged ones'. So I told her that there weren't any bags, just three onions left in the box, so could I just buy one.
No, she says, we don't have any.
What's that you're holding then?
Sorry she says, if you come back tomorrow you can buy a bag, but we don't have any at the moment.
What are you going to do with that 'not an onion' you're holding I asked.
Oh it'll be disposed of she says.
Well pass it here I said, I'll put it in the bin on the way out ...

JennaRainbow · 06/07/2017 22:52

Meeting some of the Grenfell survivors and hearing what's happening with them since the fire, how they're being treated. Massive wtf moments.

Foslady · 06/07/2017 22:57

Boss refusing to update my job description then when I called a meeting to duscuuwhy on both sides it turns out he's never checked and I'd been given the wrong one (condensed short version) - even bigger wtf - being updated and his manor suggests for no extra money......

I have an interview lined up elsewhere......

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/07/2017 23:02

I got invited to my friends, hadn't seen her for ages, showed up and chatted happily, then it suddenly morphed into an MLM recruitment event Angry. I got a lecture on how if you lose weight "normally" your body "sheds the fat but not the toxins" so I should buy their expensive "detox" shakes.... ffs. I am starting to think science lessons should be compulsory until at least age 60...

WishfulThanking · 06/07/2017 23:09

Not something that happened to me personally, but this morning my son had an abrsm piano exam so during a google search I came across this article, that had me scratching my head thinking WTF?!

I'm sorry but unfortunately it's a Daily Mail link

Helloitsme88 · 06/07/2017 23:14

I worked all year in a nursery. But contract ended in April. So lady I covered for took over. I carried on working doing supply and 2 days a week permanently. Each member of staff got given flowers, key ring and £100 voucher and a card signed by each parent.
I got key ring. No card, nothing. Feel quite humiliated

olympicsrock · 06/07/2017 23:15

Last Friday a rather pushy fish salesman parked outside my house around 6 45 when I was upstairs putting the children to bed. He knocked on the door so I ignored it as I did not want to buy overpriced catering sized packs of fish. After 2 mins I heard the door open. He had let himself in and was asking my 5 year old to let Mummy know that he was at the door. So bloody rude!

Mari50 · 06/07/2017 23:19

My (emotionally and sexually abusive narcissist) exP demanded that he be able to come to mine so I could comb through his hair with nitty gritty comb after I told him DD still had nits (more than likely because he couldn't be arsed doing any combing when he had her recently despite being supplied with the tools needed)
I told him to call his gf, that's her job now. He was quite insistent.
I hung up.
Where the fuck are the mans boundaries?

RiversrunWoodville · 06/07/2017 23:23

olympics is his name Paul??

Fidoandacupoftea · 06/07/2017 23:25

Woman I worked with years ago who hadn't kept in contact, never replied to my initial emails sent me a very long email today. one line of 'how are you' was followed by a lengthy email about her neice's university choices and asking for my advice, marking it as urgent. I cant trust myself to reply courteously today Angry

Scaredycat3000 · 06/07/2017 23:25

My dc go to the only local school, a faith school. Both dc removed from worship at their request, yet on move up day we get 2ed year of grace and prayers. They are little, to scared to not do as they're told. How hard is it to pass this information on?

TheMysteriousJackelope · 06/07/2017 23:27

Visited Covent Garden while on vacation with my family. A lady who was very smartly dressed in pleated skirt, blazer, and nicely done hair absolutely glared at me and rapped out 'Ugh, they even make those terrible shredded jeans for women in their 50's now'. I gave her a big old grin in response and said 'Yes'. She looked completely revolted and huffed off.

WTF.

I told my 85 year old mother what had happened and she said 'what a silly woman' before anyone starts with the 'it must be her age' excuse.

MooMooTheFirst · 06/07/2017 23:30

DS took a bite out of a slug.

I've been up consistently with DS for the last three weeks because of ongoing health problems. Largely I get to sleep at 5am till 8am ish. Today dp told me he was tired.

CUNT OFF DP

TheMysteriousJackelope · 06/07/2017 23:34

I forgot to add to my post that I was wearing very nice white trousers with gold embroidery and a couple of artificially shredded patches on them. The woman was obviously the fashion police and their uniform is a pleated skirt and blazer.

knockedover · 06/07/2017 23:40
