To think that swimming pool should not allow people to swim with underwear on?

Just got back from my local pool. Obviously very busy as hot day here.

I'm sick of the pool not giving a shit about hygiene, all the teenager and early 20s groups of lads using the pools were wearing swimming shorts but kept their boxers on too. Used to see this sometimes but now seems to be the done thing.

I mean ffs lovely to wear a pair of pants all day in 30 degree heat and then go into a pool in them.

Anyone else hate this? Why are pool so slack with behaviour now, I'm not that old but I remember that pool lifeguards when I was a teenager were a cross between hitler and robocob and slung anyone out for not following this: www.sweetandnostalgic.co.uk/swimming-pool-safety---metal-wall-sign-1292-p.asp

I went to the Sun Centre (as was) at Blackpool and was put off by the amount of people swimming in t-shirts and actual clothes. It seemed a cultural thing (was mainly families of Asian decent) and while I wholeheartedly am ok with then covering up, if their religion / culture dictates, surely a wet suit or similar would be more appropriate/hygienic. It was a few years ago so hoping someone has plugged the hole in the market for full-cover swimwear.

Boar shorts are made as shorts. Not swimming shorts. And then they are supposed to be worn to go surfing, not in a swimming pool.

As to those who put their swimming stuff at home. If you put it just before going, I can't see the issue.
If you out it in in the am and then wear it all day, then this will be in the s'aime state than a pair of pants, i.e. dirty, 'poo particules' as they say on MN, and all.
I would consider that as unhygienic as someone wearing their pants in the pool
has someone ever looked at the state of some pair of pants??
at least with a swimming costume, you are unlikely to wear them all day long as they would be uncomfortable anyway

I've just found out that France is particularly hot on this... having booked first pool-type holiday there, husband and son are now quite traumatised that surf short-type swimwear is not allowed and the Speedo is required.

😱😱😱😱😱😱

Be grateful. I live in a country where most men don't even bother with the swimmers. They just wear their pants in the pool....

I have largely given up swimming.

I wear long sleeved t shirts and shorts when taking ds swimming to lessen the chance of getting hurt if he gets upset. They are only worn in the pool and I'm supervising rather than trying to swim. No one has ever complained.

As someone mentioned earlier 'double waistband' swimshorts are quite popular amongst the yoof. Perhaps that's what they were wearing?

You can get swim shorts with either a mesh lining or board shorts that come down low on the thigh. No ones dick reaches their knees, so no need to wear their undies too. 😂

ProseccoandPizza · 07/07/2017 12:52

Ummm DP is very well endowed yet has never needed to wear boxers underneath... without being graphic he's 6'10 and all in proportion and very athletic. He wears swimming shorts from Asda and no problem at all even at water parks.

OlennasWimple · 07/07/2017 13:01

So swim shorts = the ones with mesh pants inside; Board shorts = normal shorts but made from material that dries more quickly.

Now I know the difference!

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 07/07/2017 13:05

How do you know if they're wearing boxers or not

They were wearing budgie smugglers over the top of them Wink

SpaghettiAndMeatballs · 07/07/2017 13:24

Music - the world continues to surprise me. Who would ever have thought swimming shorts with built in fake boxer band would be a thing.

Round here you can swim in baggy shorts in hotel pools and the like, but it's strongly expected that if you go to a sports pool you'll be in speedo style shorts, and most require a swim cap even for very short hair.

My Son-in-law wears a t-shirt because of operations that he's had to had has left him oddly shaped and scars.

When Nursery assistants/teachers, or Carers go into the pool, they often wear t-shirts, so a change in the rules would stop many people from using the pool, which need the income.

As for the comment about most people in the U.K. Being minging, if that was said about any other group, the post would be deleted. I've been to many other countries and on the whole, we don't smell anymore and a lot less than some other nationalities.

"It's like swimming with a snake" baaaahahahahaaaa

Board shorts were originally conceived (in the US) when men would have worn a swimmer's jockstrap underneath them. Unfortunately swimmer's jocks, like all athletic jockstraps, are virtually extinct now and boxers seem to have filled the void. I'd have thought a speedo would make more sense but anyone under the age of about 50 would gouge their own eyes out rather than admit to owning one, never mind wearing one in public.

The organic matter in dirty street clothes can be dealt with by chlorine, even if it's a bit gross. However, lint and other fibre which cotton clothing sheds is a real nuisance to deal with - if it goes into the filtration system through the skimmer or hoover it's too small for the basket and gets trapped in the sand filter where it causes all manner of problems to get rid of.

By the way, if you can smell chlorine at a pool then somewhat counter-intuitively it's not over-chlorinated; there actually isn't enough of it.
