AIBU just want to book a half decent holiday

AIBU why is it so difficult to find a family holiday with a room that accomodates a proper family? We have left it late but want to book summer hol for Aug 17. I am going delirious with all the choice on offer.
Kids (12 & 13) want an all singing all dancing in your face place. DH and I like somewhere quiet relaxing laid back plenty of shade a cooling breeze good food/wine nice restaurants not having to get up at the crack of dawn for a sun bed and somewhere to stroll around nice scenery, good reviews (to instill confidence) but most of all happy children.
But we will settle on clean, self catering or decent all inclusive, some facilities to keep the kids happy (not complaining) and a room that will properly accommodate a 12 and 13 year old so we don't have to sleep apart on holiday. Suggestions welcome of resort accommodation and holiday company private let. Thanks

Send the kids to a summer activity camp or something and you and DH go somewhere fab and luxurious.

Try Neilsons. They do some great deals for late bookings. Tons of excellent activities for teens and very good food and drink. For those who wish to do nithing there is no pressure but there are a huge range of adult activities as well for those inclined. They do do family accommodation.

If you want algarve look at Colina da lapa in carvoeiro. We went there last year with three kids, huge semi detached villas with 2 bedrooms plus sofa bed.

It was about £900 for a week (exc flights obv) in the first week of the hols in July. Really nice resort but not

Not right in a town, if that's what you're after.

...is how that should have ended!!

Brighteyes27 · 06/07/2017 18:18

Hairydilemma We stayed in Carvoeiro last year but very little coming up this year was that a private let and are there any facilities on site for the kids other than pool.

Hi, here's tennis courts (and a playground tho yours are too old for that) - but if you've been to Carvoeiro you probably want a change - lovely as I found it it's a small place, isn't it? Smile

Hairydilemma · 06/07/2017 18:28

It wasn't a private let btw, I booked it on alpharooms.com which is where I always tend to book accomm.

Brighteyes27 · 06/07/2017 18:37

Yes Carvoeiro is quite small but perfectly formed, lovely restaurants, wine, beach, views and a nice safe family feel to it.

Last year we went to Sicily for the last week in August, I spent ages finding the right accommodation (in the end it was a sort of converted out building on 3 floors with 2 single beds in the loft far away from each other. This year we are doing the static camping thing and I have booked with 3 bedrooms because I just know it will make everyone happier.

Brighteyes27 sorry i haven't been back to the thread before, our teens were 15 and 13 when we went, so could go off to the waterpark with friends they made there, or join in with the organised events (water polo matches, daft games, walks to the local beach etc). The food was pretty good for AI, fresh, varied and topped up regularly. The villas are in groups of 4 attached, but there is quite a lot of space around and in between. We also had a toddler, so I would take him back to bed and sit on the terrace with a drink in the peace and quiet, a few couples and families were doing that with occasional drink runs to the bar. The water park was fairly chilled and relaxed, lots of space to sit, wave pool, toddler pool, lazy river as well as big slides

Oh Zebedee sounds absolutely perfect for us.
I booked yesterday to go to Olhos in the Algarve love that breeze in August and not visited Olhos before. It's a hotel at a good price, recent refurb, looks nice, excellent reviews on T/A, lovely beach, some activities going on during the day for multiple age groups (up to 16) so up to the DC whether or not they join in. Although they would have likely enjoyed more independence in the place you suggested. It's not too far from the resort centre which is a laid back family friendly type of place where there are a few nice restaurants (so we get some nice food and wine and an evening stroll) and family friendly bars (some have pool, snooker tables in. We can always go to Zoomarine or the Waterpark if they get bored. Looking forward to it. Thanks for your help Zebedee. Are you off anywhere this year?

Brighteyes27 we are down to Devon this year, for a holiday/visiting friends/relatives/potential places to live combination. Only 1 of the teens is coming and the little one (not so little any more!), so a completely different kind of thing! Hope you have a lovely time.
