AIBU just want to book a half decent holiday

AIBU why is it so difficult to find a family holiday with a room that accomodates a proper family? We have left it late but want to book summer hol for Aug 17. I am going delirious with all the choice on offer.
Kids (12 & 13) want an all singing all dancing in your face place. DH and I like somewhere quiet relaxing laid back plenty of shade a cooling breeze good food/wine nice restaurants not having to get up at the crack of dawn for a sun bed and somewhere to stroll around nice scenery, good reviews (to instill confidence) but most of all happy children.
But we will settle on clean, self catering or decent all inclusive, some facilities to keep the kids happy (not complaining) and a room that will properly accommodate a 12 and 13 year old so we don't have to sleep apart on holiday. Suggestions welcome of resort accommodation and holiday company private let. Thanks

I know you said "no camping' but if you go for a mobile home, it's not actually camping!
We stayed on this site with our teenagers a few years ago, it was fantastic. Lots of activities organised directly from the site, everything from climbing, canyoning to horse riding (we took horses swimming in a lake with water the temp of a bath). There is entertainment aimed at teens every night, you are a 10 min walk from a very pretty market town which is stuffed with nice places to eat. Lots of good day trips, stunning scenery : by far one of the best sites we have ever stayed on.

Cheap flight, hire car, all good.

This chain, camping and castles, have lots of other excellent sites as well.

I don't see what their heights or genders have to do with anything. How many beds the accomodation has is generally easy to see.

Brighteyes27 · 06/07/2017 15:44

OuchLegoHurts The last time we did this on a package the kids were 5 and 6 and the kids beds were absolutely tiny fragile and very uncomfortable looking the DC's are now 5ft 8 and 5ft 9 of average build and somewhat heavier so I wouldn't want them sleeping in a tiny draw type bed designed for a child under 10.

WillRikersExtraNipple No on a package holiday often the sleeping arrangements is on a double sofa bed and a main bed for adults but it's often not clear to find this out.

www.canvasholidays.co.uk/italy/lake-garda/campsite-belvedere-village.php

Try this, apartments and villas, various sizes. We went there and loved it, the local area is brilliant for good food! Also great scenery, lakeside beaches, on site pools etc etc.

Ivory200 · 06/07/2017 15:52

Also lovely climate, cooling breezes from Lake Garda!

BagelGoesWalking · 06/07/2017 15:55

Although it's a "standard" family, it's more difficult when the children are teenagers or nearly.

The kids beds are often not proper beds, so not very comfortable or sturdy. If kids are on a sofa bed in the lounge area of the room/suite, them the parents are stuck with going to bed early. Not the end of the world but most people actually want to enjoy their holiday and not to be stuck in conditions that are less than ideal.

Look up Castels camping and then go on the sites web pages. They rent out statics and huts. Eurocamp and Canvas do the same. Will offer what you want. Statics have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, decking, etc. At the age your kids are they will just be off on the site playing pingpong, swimming, making friends and you can chill.

Theres a waterpark called aquashow that has a hotel onsite im not sure what the hotel is like but the waterpark is so much fun

requestingsunshine · 06/07/2017 16:16

Blimey, you have tall kids! Shock

misses point and feels very short

Only1scoop · 06/07/2017 16:20

Don't get the 'proper family' and height thing either.

m0therofdragons · 06/07/2017 16:23

I love canvas holidays and we went to lake Garda last year. Plan to go back next year but to Rome. We have 3 dc and hotels just don't work for us.

PossumInAPearTree · 06/07/2017 16:24

Look at hotel tropical jardin in tenerife. Thomson go there i think.

Stillwishihadabs · 06/07/2017 16:45

I totally get where you are coming from with the older dcs thing. Ours are 11 and 13 opposite sexes a lot of accommodation is unsuitable

SpeckledyHen · 06/07/2017 16:53

How about a 2 bed apartment with a sofa bed ?

JaneEyre70 · 06/07/2017 16:53

Have you looked at Mark Warner? Lots of room choices, we've gone for interconnecting ones with full size adult beds.

Brighteyes27 · 06/07/2017 17:37

Thanks Stillwishihadabs I was beginning to think I was on my own with this. I friends with one child, or two really young kids, 2 same sex kids and they have no idea. I don't want to share a sofa bed with my DD and nor does she and my DS and his dad don't want to share either.

Will look up Castels thanks. Visited Lake Garda when younger and loved it.

Try HomeAway. We've a 13 and 12 year old too and usually find something great with a pool. Make sure you pay through homeaway not directly for peace of mind. I've honestly never had a fail.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 06/07/2017 17:46

I've just found DB Seabanks in Malta and we're planning to go in October/November. Looks like exactly what you're after, AI, great kids facilities, lots of restaurants and bars, and family rooms have sliding door between the 2 rooms so you get some privacy. Reviews are ace, Malta is fabulous, and flight isn't too long. Still got availability for august too. Any good for you?

fannydaggerz · 06/07/2017 17:51

Tenerife or Ibiza would be best for all of you.

Brighteyes27 · 06/07/2017 17:52

Thanks Pennina we have done this the last three or four years for more space/bed room situation. It's always worked well. Quiet place lots of space no clambering for sun beds, more cosmopolitan and not mobbed with kids but some and they have always found friends. However, last year most the kids were either a good 5 years younger or older than out two so by the second week they were bored and hard work and we decided they maybe needed more facilities and more friend options.

id look into a caravan holiday in europe. No happiness can be got from a hotel room for 4 people, no matter how nice the scenery

dontcallmelen · 06/07/2017 17:57

A two bed apartment usually has proper beds in each bedroom , also if you book two twin rooms in a hotel that would be ok, fairly normal set up I have boy & girl they are six years apart so definitely didn't want to share a bed, Menorca might be worth a look very pretty island the capital is lovely & some really pretty resorts.
